Xaden didn’t just marry Violet so Tyrrendor would have a ruler after he was gone. He didn’t just do it so that she could protect Tyrrendor.
He married Violet so the title would protect her. He laid it out plainly when they were in Deverelli and he called her his consort—“the designation gives you the protection and privileges of my title”. The easiest way to kill venin-Xaden would be to kill Violet and hope that the bond does the job for them, but now that she’s Duchess of Tyrrendor? With the entire army of the largest province in Navarre under her command? And all the wealth and power held by the Riorson family? The Navarrian command can’t touch her.
Because Xaden used Tyrrendor to protect Violet, not the other way around.

Y’all, I know she’s not pregnant. RY wouldn’t do that. But what if they make people think she is, for her protection, like Katniss in Catching Fire. They might not hesitate to kill the Duchess in order to kill venin Xaden and just hand the title off to someone else, but they might think twice about killing a “pregnant” duchess, especially if they think she could be carrying a half venin they could study or even just a potential future powerful dragon rider.

So what if Dain has been lying about the true nature of
his signet to avoid being executed as an inntrinsic? What if he can see more than just recent memories, like every memory a person has ever had? Or what if he doesn’t actually have to touch a person’s face to read their memories?
But if not, then based on Sloane’s comment about him having too much power, I think Dane could possibly develop his signet into something more in the next book.

When Andarna left with Leothan, I don’t think her bond with Violet had been completely broken. The irids had previously said something about Andarna being Magic and being able to bend or break bonds. So I think Leothan just “bent” or blocked Andarna’s bond with Violet so she would go with him. Violet was still able to use her second signet and didn’t lose any power, which Mira pointed out, so I don’t think the bond was completely broken. So maybe Andarna has done the same thing with Tairn and Sgaeyl’s bond (just “bent” or blocked it) so that they can be away from each other while Sgaeyl goes with Xaden without killing them. Obviously it is still painful for Tairn, just like it was for Violet, but she recovered after a few days and so will he.
It’s so important to me that he lets her hit him. He’s her wingleader. Hitting him is probably insubordination or something. And it probably fucking hurt. Violet gives them impression that he could have pinned her wrists before she hit him, but he doesn’t. He lets her hit him twice. Sloane is someone who is very hotheaded, and in general a very angry person. (Not a criticism at all. I think we need more angry women in literature.) She tends to need an outlet for her anger as well. In IF she mostly directed it towards Violet, but it OS a considerable amount of it seems directed towards Dain. It’s not like she’s trying to take it out on people, she just needs burn off that anger somehow, and doing it on the people she blames for her brothers death is the easiest way for her to do that. I think one of the reasons she had such a hard time accepting Violet was because if she had let go of her anger, then she would have had to face the pain, which would have been far worse. In OS, she doesn’t have that anymore. She kind of has Dain, but I think by then she’s realizing that the only people she can really blame for Liam’s death are leadership and the Venin. Combine her lack of an outlet with the fact that she can’t go on the mission and her guilt over Lilith’s death, and she’s pretty much a tinderbox of pent up rage and frustration. I honestly can’t blame her for charging that captain. If I were here, I would’ve murdered someone months ago. The fact that Dain recognized that is incredibly sweet. The fact that he saw how badly she needed an outlet and let her hurt him so she could calm down a little without screwing up diplomacy is just so important to me. It’s such a subtle thing, but it says so much about him and how he feels about her. As far as I’m concerned, it might as well be a declaration of love.
Dare I present my evidence on why DainxSloane is peak enemies to lovers (they are literally giving the biggest FW Riorgail vibes???) :

“Following her ass,” Dain replies, then winces at the crunch of bone coming from behind the wall of shadows Xaden holds in place with both hands. “She’s under my command, and Cath alerted me the second they crossed the wards against orders.” He aims that last part in Sloane’s direction.
Following the other into battle because they are reckless and going to get themself killed??? Hello???
“One hand on my wrist,” Dain says gently, like he’s talking to a skittish horse.
She stares at the gray handprint that scars his forearm. “I don’t want to do that. Become that.”
“You won’t.” He lifts his brows. “You can hate me later, but trust me now or she dies.”
Sloane wraps her fingers around Dain’s wrist. Her eyes flare, and she swallows. “Someone like you shouldn’t have this much power.”

“Eyes here,” Dain says, and Sloane looks his way. “Pull from the excess you feel in me, and push to the deficit in him. You’re not a weapon of destruction. You’re not venin. You’re the artery power chooses to flow through. You’re life.”
Her brow knits, and Dain flinches. “I’m going to hurt you.”
“Gods, don’t I know it.” He nods. “But you’re not going to kill me, no matter how badly you want to. Now do it.”

“Fuck off, Aetos.” She rocks forward and up to her feet.
He pauses like he’s counting to three. “Get back across the wards, Mairi, and stay there.”
She turns on her heel and stalks toward Thoirt, lifting a middle finger.
Bodhi snorts.

Near the beginning of iron flame its mentioned that xaden has to move out of his room fairly quickly cause the new leadership will move in when the results are posted right.
And of course dain becomes the new wingleader...
So its probable he moved into xadens old room, which if i recall last time xaden was actually in that room before war games a window may have been broken. And there is no way that they had time to fix that window in the middle of war games or in the little time when he was back. And i doubt he would have wanted to eith the possibility of Dain becoming wing leader.
I can just picture Dain coming into his new room like why is the window broken 🧐
Anyone else think Brennan took it wayyyyy too well when he found out that Xaden had turned venin? I know he finds out off page so we don’t see his initial reaction, but he is super calm and understanding when he finally confronts Violet about it and tells her he tried but couldn’t mend Xaden. Everyone else had VERY different reactions (especially Mira and Ridoc, who wanted to kill Xaden and remove him as a threat). Could this be due to Naolin? Could it be that Brennan too has someone he loves or at least cares for who turned venin, so he understands their predicament and doesn’t want to just give up on and kill Xaden (because he doesn’t want to give up on and kill Naolin)???!!!
The rune on Brennan’s hand is NOT from Naolin saving him. It is there because he dedicated himself to one of the gods. Just like the Dunne priestess had the tattoo on her forehead from being dedicated to Dunne. The question is, which god is Brennan dedicated to.
Either that, or it somehow allows him to be connected to venin Naolin, which is scary.
Also, Violet is now fully dedicated to Dunne. A simple wedding vow ceremony doesn’t take 12 hours. But a dedication to a goddess just might. And her hair doesn’t have to be fully silver now from that either, because the adults on the continent who dedicate themselves to Dunne have to dye their hair silver, as the priestess at the temple outside Aretia told her when she asked her if she uses the same stuff as them to dye her hair partially silver. (Child dedication was outlawed on the continent, but I’m pretty sure the adults can still choose to dedicate themselves.)
