I just finished watching Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel in LA. It’s only four episodes—quite short—but it left me thinking deeply.

I realized how easily people judge based only on what they see. As the saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” That perfectly describes those who tried to play investigator, puzzling like Nancy Drew or Detective Conan.

In the process, they heartbreakingly destroyed lives:

The singer, who can’t return to his normal life.

The LAPD, who worked hard yet were misjudged for not revealing every detail, ruining their reputation.

The Hotel Cecil employees, who lost their jobs.

Now, hold your thoughts—you might think I’m going too far instead of showing sympathy for Elisa Lam. But I do sympathize.

Still, I believe we should also give attention to those who are still here, living and working hard. Seeking truth and justice for Elisa matters, but one thing we cannot change is that she will never come back alive.
