I imagine potential scenarios of tomorrow’s events before i fall asleep
Hi
So I want to improve my writing skills but I struggle with thinking up things to write about.
Send me an ask with an idea and I’d love to drum up a short piece for you!
Gynecologists really missed an opportunity by not referring to themselves as “private investigators”
story idea
Just saw this post where the child (age 3) places his hand on his mother’s wrist to signal that he wants to tell her something while she’s talking with her friend and she places her hand on his to acknowledge she understands and will give him her attention as soon as she can.
Picture this:
He slams the door to his bedroom in frustration. Clearly worried, his mother opens the door slightly.
She places her hand on his wrist.
“Go away, Mom. I don’t want to talk about it.” He moves away her hand.
So she leaves. A few hours later, she calls him down to supper and he begrudgingly trudges down the stairs to heavily plop into the chair at the table.
She places her hand on his wrist.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” He moves her hand away.
So she serves him his food, and the pair eat in silence. While his mother washes the dishes, he slowly stands beside her at the sink. With a shaky hand and tear-filled eyes, he reaches out and softly places his hand on her soapy wrist. She covers his hand with her other hand to acknowledge that she is ready to listen when he is ready to talk.
“Thanks, Mom.” He trudges back upstairs, but softly closes his door this time. A few minutes later, his mother opens his door slightly.
“Can I come in?” She signs to him.
He opens the door all the way for her and she places her hand on his wrist. He sees this, but doesn’t hold it with his other hand. “Okay,” she responds and leaves him alone.
The next morning his mother opens his door to wake him up for school.
“Good morning.” She places her hand on his wrist to let him know she can talk. He covers her hand this time. They sit in silence for a while until she breaks it. “What’s on your mind, honey?”
“I want to talk, but I don’t know how, Mom.”
“I’m here whenever you figure it out, okay?”
“Okay.”
It’s 2 am and his mother is sleeping fitfully. She wakes with a start and sees her son standing by her bedside. He grabs her wrist with pleading eyes of desperation. She covers his hand with hers.
“I don’t want to die, Mom. Can you keep me from doing something I shouldn’t?” blurts from his mouth dripping with worry and anxiety.
“Would you like to sleep in my room tonight? It’ll make you feel safer and you can talk to me anytime you need to.”
“Okay. Thanks, Mom.”
He crawls into her bed and quickly falls asleep. His mother keeps her hand on his to let him know he’s always allowed to talk whenever he feels like it, especially tonight.
Apparently someone tweeted my comic to the real life Tim Brent, whom I knew next to nothing about prior to making this comic. So we’ll see how that goes. My bet on his reaction is either confused dismay or a very slow, mildly amused head shake. My website – My Facebook page – Check me out on LINE Webtoon!

I saw this post on my dash (with commentary, dw) and there was one thing that I didn’t see addressed in the comment chain that I really feel needs to be
Once an artist creates a work, they own the copyright
None of this “I paid for the art. It is mine.” bullshit, unless the artist actually sells you the copyright (something which has to be stated and never assumed, and something you would have to pay extra for) you can not claim ownership over the piece, even if you paid for it.
And yes, this means you can not alter the work in any way, you can not use it for banners/advertisements/etc., you can not print it, you can not sell copies unless agreed upon with the artist
and artists are also protected under moral rights
meaning that the artist has the right of attribution (the right to be identified and named as the creator of their work), the right against false attribution, and the right of integrity. (Source)
so fuck off with your “I paid for the art. It is mine.” crap, it doesn’t stick legally
I actually attended an extremely useful talk at my (design) school held by a professor who’s also a copyright lawyer, and there are a couple more things you should know.
TO EXPAND ON THIS:
Copyright actually is control over the following:
Reproduction
Distribution
Derivative Work
Performance
Public Display
You do not have to give/sell the entire copyright to your work.
You can, for example, license someone to publicly display the work. That would permit them to exclusively use the content with limitations. You can also non-exclusively license others to use your content, which would be a broader “You can do X with my work” statement.
Transfer of copyright ownership has to be in writing.
This does not mean “I asked you to draw X for me and I paid for it so I claim ownership of everything this image is and all rights to it.” It means “the artist explicitly wrote that they’re transferring copyright ownership to me.”
And in case you were wondering when, exactly, copyright attaches, copyright attaches the moment the expression of the idea is fixed in a tangible form. That means I could draw a fast scribble on a piece of paper and I’d own copyrights to it. This also applies to digital mediums.
Of course, it’s best to register copyrights through (if you’re in the US) the US Copyright Office, but copyright applies even without registration.
EXCEPTIONS…
…to copyright laws include employer-employee relationships and “work for hire” agreements, but only when signed before the work is created.
BEFORE you do any work for a client, definitely create a contract in which you claim that “[You] reserve the right to reproduce the work for promotional and online portfolio purposes” if you want to be able to use the work as promotion for yourself. Here’s a wikihow on how to create a freelance contract.
Copyright laws are in place to protect creators.
Don’t fall for tricks!
Heh. I can relate. I too am a younger sibling who likes being patted.
my policy for “they’re just doing it for attention” has always been and always will be “then someone needs to pay attention to them”
I’ve always thought this
Let me tell you about the time I worked as a computer teacher for a small private school. My first day went well, but in the staff room that day I was told I was lucky that this one kid was out sick. No one could control him.
Next week, he was in. It took me 10 minutes to determine that I was dealing with a 10 year old kid who was incredibly intelligent, more than a little bored, and loved being the center of attention.
He was also black. I say this because I think that a intelligent, somewhat bored, attention-seeking white kid might have been treated differently.
So, day one I made him sit by himself where no one could see him to stop him from taking over the class (which he was clearly used to doing).
Day two: I paid close attention to when he finished (not surprising, he was first and did everything correctly). I immediately told him he was helping me, and paired him with a struggling student.
My hunch was right; he made a excellent teacher. He thrived on having this other kid’s attention. He wasn’t bored. He was one of my best students.
He was a bright kid. And he needed people to pay attention to him and would settle for any kind of attention he could get. But when he was able to channel that positively, he was a great student and a really helpful classmate.
IMPORTANT POINT HERE
a very potter musical is one of the greatest things on the planet and it was created by college students with $150 who were high off their asses
may I mention that about 1/3 of the budget was spent on ron’s giant Hershey bar?
YOU MAY
I can’t believe that I never considered the possibility that they were high
For female lead Kathy Selden, such stars as Judy Garland and June Allyson were considered, but Kelly was sold on starlet Reynolds. She was a gymnast who’d been discovered in a beauty pageant and landed a couple of small movie roles. She was also still a teenager, but Kelly was certain she had the athleticism and vocal chops the part required.
Reynolds, however, wasn’t so sure. She had no dance training, and she found co-director/choreographer/co-star Kelly a tyrannical taskmaster. One day, she was so despondent that she curled up beneath a piano and started to cry – only to be found by Fred Astaire, who gave her some dance coaching. By the time she filmed the “Good Morning” number, she was able to keep up with Kelly and O'Connor, but after the 14-hour shot was done, she had to be carried to her dressing room because her feet were bleeding.
Years later, she would praise Kelly as the most exciting director she’d ever worked with, while he called her “strong as an ox” and complimented her on her ability to learn complicated routines quickly. Still, she said, “The two hardest things I ever did in my life are childbirth and “Singin’ in the Rain’.” [x]
THIS IS ACTUALLY FACTUAL AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED MORE

“Knowing that they were losing “valuable product” due to their slaves’ propensity to swim, slave owners began taking drastic steps to protect their property. One of these steps was to instill a fear of the water by dunking disobedient slaves in water until they nearly drowned and by creating fear through stories of creatures living in the water. Thus it didn’t take long to excise or destroy the West African swimming tradition from African- American culture. The Jim Crow laws that were enacted after The Civil War prohibited blacks from the popular seaside resorts in places like Atlantic City, N.J. and Revere Beach, Mass. And by the 20th Century, as the swimming pool began to gain in popularity in the United States, the color line prohibited blacks from enjoying this pleasant recreational skill.
In addition, self-segregation also played a role in limiting those of African ancestry from getting in the water. I remember my Aunt saying to stay away from the pool because, “black folk don’t swim.””
Such a long and consistent history of anti-Blackness and swimming. Long before police openly assaulted little black girls in McKinney, GoodWhitePeople™ were enforcing White Supremacy and segregating swimming pools.
Motel manager, James “Jimmy” Brock, pouring acid into a swimming pool to drive black people away from a “Swim In” protest, in St. Augustine, Florida on June 18, 1964.
Next time you hear someone ask questions like, “Why don’t black people swim?” Or “Why are so many black people afraid of dogs?” And, “Why are there do so many black people live in poverty?”…..let ‘em know that those aren’t coincidences. These things didn’t just happen naturally, all on their own. There’s a reason for it, and you don’t have to be an historian to know they’re all interconnected through slavery, endemic racism and persistently racist cultural norms.
this just in : mom friends
Very good
