It was a pretty productive day, but since most of what I got done were things I should have done on previous days I have to call this one a wash.

I decided to go running before doing the laundry to avoid being up on the hills after dark. That was probably the right call for my personal safety, but not so much for my productivity.

I love me a sausage, but only loose or in a casing. The sausage patty is a perversion fit only for degenerates and layabouts. This is a hill I am willing to die on. And when I do, grind me up, mix in some salt, garlic, thyme, and black pepper, and stuff me in a casing made from my own intestines like god intended.

I just really love doing tasks. Is that so wrong? (The answer, in this case, is yes! I gave free labor to my landlord, like an absolute chump. I've let socialism down, I've let myself down, and worst of all I let Woody Guthrie down.)

Sometimes I do things that seem like the responsible, productive choice, but they are actually very bad choices that will have disastrous short/medium/long term consequences for my fragile mortal meatsack. But will this be one of those times? Stay tuned to find out.

Oh, I do love me a spreadsheet. They're just so dang useful for tracking finances and changes over time. They even work for tracking the finances and changes over time of a pretend nation-state a bunch of nerds pretend to administrate every other weekend. I am a very boring man.

You know what isn't very boring? Even the least of the original trilogy Star Wars movies. Is it good? Hard to say! But it is maybe in the top half of Star Wars with numbers in them.

My whole life is making plans, following those plans, being very productive, relaxing for even a single second, the whole thing starts to fall apart, having to redouble all my efforts in an attempt to play catch-up, and then needing to take another second to relax. Repeat until so despondent there's nothing to do but pull it all down and start again from nothing. 

It is... not great.

The fun thing about training for something like a marathon is the progressive increase in volume and intensity over time, like the tightening of a lariat gradually choking off the limited time and attention available in a given day.

Wait, no, not fun. Wrong word. What's the other one? Also starts with "f"?

It is almost impossible to catch up to anything for long because the extra effort needed to catch up leaves no energy to sustain the original pace. But I'm still going to try, dang it!

You can tell if we're watching The Crown or something else by if I'm playing the Switch. If I play video games while The Crown is on Reena gives me a hard time because I'm missing "nuanced performances" and "impeccable production design" and "sweeping, painterly composition". And of course she's right so I don't really mind not playing video games.

I also can't play video games while watching The Crown because I'm too busy researching the actual history the show is based on.

My "Death by Goblins!" notes came in around 5000 words when all was said and done. Been at least a year since I've written that much on a single topic. Which when I say it out loud makes it very clear I need to write more.

As for that half-marathon, it took me 2:04:50. That's my second best time and only 64 seconds off from my personal best half-marathon finish. I'm highly confident I could have beat my old record if the conditions were better, but all that matter is time on the day. Ah, well, such is life.

Brunch and cocktails is the perfect celebration because you can be done by noon if you really put the effort in. No chance of being late for bedtime with a brunch and cocktails celebration. Heck, if you get a fancy coffee on the way home from cocktails you can probably still have a productive afternoon!
