Warm, comforting, and playful. Bright citrus opens into creamy marshmallow, cocoa butter, and vanilla before settling into amber, saffron, and soft musk. Sweet enough to remind you of candy, elegant enough to feel like home.
What does your D&D character smell like?
Today I found out.
I spent the afternoon at Orris Labs creating a custom perfume inspired by one of my longest-running D&D characters, Thafi.
Some people build playlists for their characters.
Some people make Pinterest boards.
Apparently I bottle them.
Thafi started her story as a spoiled candy heiress and Arcane Trickster rogue. Twenty-five levels later she's become a rose gold dragon, a future creator goddess, and the matriarch of a living hoard.
Unlike most dragons, she doesn't hoard gold.
She hoards people.
Not by possession, but by choice.
You have to be invited. You have to say yes. You can leave whenever you want.
She wants the people she loves to feel safe, accepted, and at home.
So when I started building her perfume, I wasn't trying to make something that smelled like a candy shop.
I wanted it to smell like coming home.
There had to be sweetness because that's undeniably Thafi. Marshmallow, gelato, cocoa butter, vanilla... those are part of who she is. But there also had to be warmth, comfort, and something ancient beneath it all.
The end result somehow became exactly what I imagined.
It smells like someone who always has candy in her pockets, gives the best hugs imaginable, and could also become a dragon large enough to wrap a wing around an entire world.
Which... honestly tracks.
The workshop itself was one of the most unexpectedly fun experiences I've had in a long time. It genuinely felt like sitting in an alchemist's laboratory, experimenting with tiny bottles until the story finally clicked.
Huge thanks to Orris Labs for making the whole experience so approachable and creative. They walk you through designing a completely custom fragrance, save your formula for future orders, and encourage you to keep experimenting until it feels right.
If you're into perfume, writing, character creation, or worldbuilding, I can't recommend it enough.

Now I have a perfume that smells like one of my favorite characters.
...which means I have approximately fifty more characters to bottle.
I don't think fic writers know how much they matter
Do you know how many times you distracted me when I was hurt or lonely? Do you know how many times a line or a scene from fanfic marked me so much that I remembered years later, even though I can’t recall my own phone number?
Even if the fic isn’t perfect or popular or multi-chaptered… Sometimes there’s just one sentence that changed me.
