15 HOURS LATER AND I'M FINALLY HERE TO OFFICIALLY ADOPT THE TRANS AND BI ISOPODS!! :DDD
the trans one I'd like to name Athena and the bi one I'd like to name Hera!!
Athena wobbled on her small legs down the dusty path. Only one thought was in her mind, and that was to get to the river. She crawled over a log and tumbled to the other side. The river was just through the trees now.
She continued, quicker this time. The blue of the water excited her. Halfway there, she almost toppled over, but somehow managed to recover. She scurried the rest of the way. Reaching the edge of the water, she was quick to leap in. Her armored body floated to the top and she could finally relax.
A spot of dark color on the far shore caught her attention. She twisted herself in its direction. A darker face stared back at her. Curiosity got the better of her and she swam over.
By the time she made it over, the other creature had disappeared. She looked around in confusion. Then something crashed into her and she flew back into the river. Disoriented, her legs flailed. An unfamiliar weight pressed into her back and she found herself righted.
Craning her head as much as she can, she was met with the dark colors from before. They strangely made her calm down even more. She faced ahead again and let herself be carried through the water.
Eventually, they began drifting to the side. Athena jolted in surprise. Whoever was above her let her go and shoved her in the direction of the shore. She gripped the edge and pulled herself up then turned to wait for her new friend. After a few minutes of waiting, it became clear they weren't coming.
She deflated. Maybe they weren't a new friend after all. Forcing herself to walk away, she headed back into the trees. Every so often, she looked back to see if they were there. Right before the river fully vanished from her sight, they appeared behind her.
Athena's small eyes widened at the sight of four fish on their back. They tilted and the food landed on the ground. She took a few steps toward it, but they blocked her. Confused, she backed away again. They waited a second more, then nudged two of the fish in her direction.
She leaned down to take a bite and was once again blocked. She looked up at them. With quick legs, they brought their food closer and plopped down. She followed their lead. They gestured with the same leg to her food, obviously telling her to eat. She gladly did so.
They leaned down for a bite of their own then gestured again. Now understanding, she took another bite. Over the next few minutes, they continuously traded eating until both their fish were only bones.
Her darker colored friend swiftly made a hole in the dirt and shoveled the bones in. They stood, shuffling a little ways away before twisting back. She leaped up and eagerly joined them.
The pair left in search of a good place to rest. Athena bounced alongside them at first, but it only made her exhausted faster. Of course, it also made her collapse faster, forcing her friend to carry her. While she felt bad, she also felt grateful she didn't have to walk anymore. She would make it up to them.
She didn't know how long she had slept afterward, but she woke back up on her side. They were in front of her, sleeping. Light poked through the leaves above and hit their back. An idea popped into her head.
Without waking them up, she slipped away. The river would be easy to return to, get food, then come right back. Athena couldn't agree more with herself. When she looked back up, the trees were unfamiliar. She checked the ones behind her, but those were too.
Panicking, she went back that way anyway. The further she went, the more she felt lost. She eventually backtracked again but still nothing was familiar.
She plopped herself down where she was and curled herself into a ball. For what felt like hours. Somehow, she ended up falling asleep again. An actual amount of hours later, she opened her eyes to be met with the face of her friend.
Startled, she leapt away. They blinked at her then started walking away. She hurried to catch up, filled with an immeasurable relief that her friend found her.
This time, she swore, she would never lose them again. Ever.
