Hey! Figured I should have a pinned post about this, so here we are!
If you've ever looked at the adorable isopods and thought you'd perhaps like to have one, well, look no further! I have an Etsy! Baby isopods, as well as large ones are listed on there, plus I make crochet earrings as well as wire wrapped pendants and earrings.
I love making these little guys, but I can't keep them all, I'd be drowning in isopods before I knew it. I'm already practically drowning in earrings, and those things are tiny.
If you've got a request for a specific animal or type of isopod or something, feel free to ask, I might be able to work something out for you. I may even already have something in the works.
A new mini best friend for yourself, a kid, a friend, or even a spouse or parent! A cute new friend who can fit easily in even women's p
Kudos to the lady who saw my earrings, and immediately wanted to purchase some, but didn't have any cash on her, so I told her where we were staying, and she came back like 10 minutes later with cash from the bank. I am now down six little guys, and she is six little guys richer!
A little isopod ready for a big world and ready for their forever home!
Little reminder that I have an Etsy where you can find these little guys for sale! You can get a little friend of your own to bring with you wherever you go.
Meet Spoiler! Mischevious and ready to get into Shenanigans before Batman arrives to stop her, she's the first of the bat collective to be made! Hopefully soon we'll see the rest of the bats. I have sketches drawn up for Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, Black Bat, Batwoman, and Signal, so hopefully all of those will soon be made and have official appearances.
Construction notes: while Miggy didn't have a tail, all of the bat isopods do, no particular reason I just felt like it. Spoiler was first because frankly every single other bat has embroidery on them and I didn't feel like doing that yet. The hood gave me a lot of problems, but I like how it turned out in the end. The same hood pattern will show up again.
Yeah I like her, she's cute. Good thing she already has a parent or I'd be risking Miggy and Batman getting in a fight over the kids. They still might, to be determined.
Late by a day and a week, whoops. I'm going to *try* and backlog some of these, but uh, we'll see how that goes. I have to actually do them for that to work lol.
We got snow where I live for the first time, so we get Isopods playing in the snow! They had a lot of fun.
Huh, what's this? Snow? Right, most of the isopods have never seen snow. My family lives somewhere that doesn't get much snow, so they haven't really seen any before. Let alone played in it.
Alright, we have located our perfect patch of snow and Squishy has obtained a scarf! (Funny fact about the scarf, one of the white segments has a bloodstain on it because I accidentally stabbed myself with my needle while sewing in ends. I will be selling scarves, but mostly single color scarves, they take much less time.)
Hm? Whatcha got there Squishy?
A snowball? I see. Well, you have fun with that, start a snowball fight I guess.
(Yes I made that snowball, and yes it was very hard to make one so small. At least this isn't super powdery snow so it was pretty good for snowballs)
Ha! Gotcha Lepus! Take that!
Lepus taking their revenge and settling for just covering Squishy with snow as is their right.
Kitsune joining in the fun by covering Axo with snow too!
Sneak attack! Otodus has gotten Kitsune with snow! How mischevious.
Chaos! Snow everywhere! This is War! Every isopod for themselves!
Alright, chill now, time to investigate plants covered in snow. A pine tree admirably holding their (very tiny) weight.
Huh? Why did the plant fall over? That's weird. It's the weight of the snow that made it fall over, the strands were too thin to hold it up.
Someone built some goofy little snowmen ontop of a sign, so I had to get pictures. Emphasis on little snowmen, since the isopods were like the size of their heads.
Now all warm and cozy inside my gloves and inside a building. No hot coco cuz I needed to get to class, but still nice and cozy.
Sorry that this has gotten...sporadic, but in my defense, college. And I'm forgetful. Oh well. But here we go! Some babies playing in the autumn leaves! Since we have all of these pretty leaves, might as well use em. And they're fun to play in.
Everyone jumped in as soon as I was finished with the pile, finding the leaves quite comfy and fun to chill in. Dragon would have come, but uh, there was a situation...(I dropped her and somehow her eye broke off??? trying to work out how to repair it)
We found a ladybug and got some adorable pictures with it. Featuring Ladybug with an actual ladybug. Very cute.
They're trying to help make the pile a little taller, even if it doesn't work too well. They're a little too small for it.
Having more fun in the leaves! Burying and hiding and just having a grand old time. Good thing you don't need overly much leaves for a pile big enough for several isopods to hide in.
We're going to play a game! Hide and seek! Squishy's gonna seek and everyone is gonna hide.
1....2....3....4....
Shhh they're hiding in the leaves. Kudos if you can spot all of them.
Boo! Found you Dandelion! Your head was very well hidden, your butt was less so.
Gotcha Autumn! Your butt was hidden very well, but looks like Squishy found your head. Fear not you blend in pretty well.
Hmmm, is there anyone over here? (Ps, there's three isopods in this picture, see if you can spot them all!)
There you are Kitsune! You can't hide from Squishy forever!
There you are Ladybug! Good hiding skills!
Agaric! Found you! Squishy walked right past you last time, but not this time! They've found you!
Pearl, the other Isopod Squishy walked right past, you won't get away with it anymore, muahahaha.
Second to last isopod, large Chicken Nugget, who did a remarkable job at hiding.
And finally our dear winner, Lepus, who despite being at a disadvantage because they're rather pink rather then leaf colored, managed to hide so well Squishy found them last! Good job kiddo!
We didn't end up playing any more rounds because this was already so many pictures and I really didn't need any more and also we were out of time. Maybe another time.
Okay in my defense I was busy yesterday. And I forgot. I was at my aunt and uncle's house though, so we got some cute pictures!
Bonus TW today for spiders!
They were all very interested in my aunt and uncle's chickens, which, fair, chickens are very interesting. If it looks like that one has a wonky tail, it does, the chickens are being mean to each other. Most of them didn't really have good-looking tails. Aunt said they just moved the chickens in and they should stop doing that soon, so here's to hoping they do. Otodus was especially interested, since they've eaten chicken before.
They had an apple tree nearby, and most of the apples were bigger then any of the isopods. This one in particular was rather large, and Otodus was very impressed.
We discovered some gourds in the garden. They had never seen such strange plants before, so they were quite interested. Even if they got a little wet.
Otodus and Miggy are on top of the pumpkin they found. Miggy is here mostly to supervise so Otodus doesn't try to eat the pumpkin. Not even a little nibble is allowed.
Axo found a neat leaf to sit on, a leaf so huge it didn't even dip under their weight, and Kitsune settled for inspecting the bottom of the large pumpkin.
Squishy and Princess also found leaves! They look so cute sitting there so nice and pretty. These leaves were similarly huge, obviously and didn't even seem to notice they had small animals on them.
Full picture of them all for scale. See also Miggy's red being as fluorescent as usual.
They had great fun playing on the seesaw for a little bit, even if they didn't weigh nearly enough to use it and I had to move it for them. That's okay, they're cute enough I don't mind.
Silly kiddos, that's not the right way to go up a slide. You have to go *down* the slide, not up it. Let's go to the top, hm?
They're very impressed that I managed to get them so high up. It was interesting, since this playground has no ladder. To get up you either go up the slide, or you use a net and kinda climb up. It's weird. Fun, but weird.
Anxiously looking down the slide, not sure it's safe. It's perfectly safe. Clean? No. Safe? Yes. It's okay, they can get a little dirty. They're outside.
I think they enjoyed it! They certainly all came out in a random pattern, but y'know they seem happy. Particularly Axo, who has made no attempt to get to their feet.
(If you don't want to see a spider, stop here)
Over to the trampoline next, which was very strange for them. Weird material, moved weird, all sorts of things.
I did a couple bounces, and they, of course, went everywhere. As expected. Very cute though. They do like getting thrown around a little bit.
Ah! We have discovered a new friend! It's a bold jumping spider! Completely harmless to humans, but probably shouldn't be on a trampoline, since it might get hurt. I'd better try and herd it off.
Slightly better picture of the little guy!
(I did manage to get him off, although I ended up having to coax him up onto Miggy's cape and then quickly bring him to the side of the trampoline(Which is set into the ground) and let him off. At least he's safe now)
Whoops! Axo fell while I was getting off the trampoline, right between the springs and onto the ground underneath! Luckily, they're okay, so don't worry about that. Didn't get too dirty either.
So I have a class, right, and this class is at night because I like night classes, and this dude in the class notes that he's got peaches and offers to bring in peach cobbler to our next class. So the teacher made the next class an impromptu dessert buffet. I brought cookies and also the isopods.
With that lengthy preamble out of the way, onto delighted isopods and desserts.
The peach cobbler in question. I didn't think it looked as good as my dad makes, especially with the crispy top, but I was assured by others that it was good. Squishy and Otodus certainly think so.
Kitsune and Axo were more attracted to these bars, forgot what they were, but they probably included peanut butter. Either way, tasty.
Otodus and Princess found some rice krispies topped with chocolate. Ignore Squishy and Axo barely visible in the corner, they're photo bombing. Very rude.
Sure those bars and stuff were neat, but look at this whole tub of stuff Princess found! Doesn't it look tasty?
Would probably be more tasty if it was on the thing it went on.
Ah, here we go, the cookies that frosting goes on. I'm sure they're yummier together than they are apart. Even if Princess and Squishy will tell you otherwise.
Okay! So, I promise I have a very good excuse for missing last week and this being late: I'm officially in college and needed a bit of time to settle in.
But here I am, so as always, pictures under a read-more!
Packed up most of my clothes into a tote, or, well, all of the stuff I don't need for the current weather(aka the winter stuff) but no one seems particularly enthused. Don't worry little ones, you're all coming too, I wouldn't leave you behind.
Investigating my new dishware, including one very fancy butter knife. By fancy I mean it's from Walmart and its very shiny. Excuse my feet in the background.
Miggy, Squishy, and one barely visible Ladybug investigating all the other kitchen stuff I'm bringing, since a well stocked kitchen is important for when you don't want to just be eating microwave ramen all semester! Plus Otodus and Kitsune investigating one of my microwave steamers. (One of because my very nice grandparents couldn't decide which one to send so they sent both. One is significantly larger then the other. Pictured is the larger one, ideal for stuff like steamed porkbuns! Which we did cook in it before I left.
Now we have a brand new oddity, a muffin tin! So exotic. This one's made of silicone. It means you don't need muffin liners. We've had these silicon muffin pans so long it kinda weirds me out when muffins have liners because we never use liners for muffins or cupcakes. Miggy and Squishy also demonstrating both their own size and the size of the spoons, as they fit perfectly on them.
Packing up my craft tote, I must have repacked this thing like three separate times, just out of nerves and worry that I wouldn't be able to pack everything I wanted to. For the record, I managed to forget an entire color. So no medium purple for me. Sigh. At least the isopods had some fun climbing around in the yarn.
And a bonus from at the new apartment, that's Cinnamon, my roommate's cat. Squishy and Kitsune have never met an actual cat before, and they were very grateful that Cinnamon did not seem too interested in them.
Hopefully I'll remember to update on Sundays from now on, wish me luck.
We went to Bonneville Dam recently, highly suggest it, it's a very cool place to go, although maybe slightly less so in the rain. Super cool seeing all the salmon passing through the fish ladder, if you're in Oregon or Washington and willing to make a drive, be sure to check it out!
Miggy, Otodus, and Squishy found an absolutely massive wrench. They were very impressed. Wait is that a wrench? Hm.
All of them lined up on another giant thing! Big to them, and to humans.
Oo this looks interesting. It used to be part of the dam. Which, yes, is much bigger then them. I couldn't get a picture of them all on the giant propeller blade that was also in here. Too big.
Kitsune and Squishy have found a typewriter, not something you see much nowadays. Please ignore my feet and trenchcoat in the bottom corner. Don't worry, I didn't let them actually try and push any keys. It was not for touching.
Unclear what this was for, but Kitsune, Squishy, and Axo sure did find it interesting. Lots of wires.
Squishy and Kitsune overlooking the work area for the dam! This was actually inside of it, that was pretty far below. It was huge though. There was a crane up above as well, although couldn't get a pic of that with them. They couldn't exactly reach.
Investigating the very interesting hats. Looks like Otodus got bored and wandered off. To be fair, I did promise them fish, and the fish haven't been seen yet. Soon.
Fish! Kind of. None visible yet, but you could see them occasionally when they jumped up the ladder. It was pretty cool. Otodus certainly thought so, even if it was raining.
There were mostly very very big fish(like longer then my arm and thicker then my waist), but there were a few smaller guys vibing at the bottom in small shoals. They had to swim at least three times as hard just to keep up with the current. Must be tiring.
Otodus is very impressed by the fish.
We stopped for lunch afterwards, featuring a shot of my ipad with Otodus and Axo investigating(and taking a little nibble of) my orange chicken. No it isn't orange, that's okay it tasted really good.
Otodus also snuck a bite of my sister's absolutely massive burrito. She didn't mind too much, they are a very small isopod and can't exactly eat much.
Otodus also got into my mom's fries. Greedy little isopod. That's okay, Otodus is too cute to face repercussions.
One more shot of my ipad, but now Otodus is investigating the boba! Fear not, Otodus cannot get to it. They are very interested in it though, it does look awfully tasty. (It was very tasty, I've never had boba before and I really liked it)
I leave you with a reminder to check out my Etsy store! You can get isopods just like these ones there, including the Miguel O'hara isopod! While he isn't pictured in the offical pictures, you can see him here, or in the introduction post for him, just tap on the Miggy tag and it'll be there, along with any other shenanigans he is inadvertently roped into.
A shorter one this week, but I think that's alright. We had a back to school BBQ(late, I know, but school is actually starting earlier this year then last year, last year we started after labor day) and Otodus got very excited.
He was too late to get any of the hamburgers though. Sorry buddy, maybe next time.
One of these days I might figure out why my camera can only focus on one(1) thing at once. It's kinda annoying. It's never the right thing either. Like sir, you can focus great and give me wonderful detail, but you gotta focus on the right things.
Otodus was pretty excited to see all of that homemade guacamole though. Very fair, since it's very good.
Fruit salad! Homemade by yours truely, its very pink, and contains, if I remember right, blackberries, raspberries, mandarin oranges, apples, bananananananas, blueberries, and strawberries. Plus yogurt and cool whip. It's super easy to make, highly suggest you try it out some time! Grab some friends(or Otodus) to help you eat it though, if you aren't careful the portion size gets....oversized.
Lettuce! Otodus has discovered the joys of leafy greens. Good for him! Veggies are very important. For omnivores anyway.
Tomatoes, and two kinds of cheese? even better. Don't eat too much Otodus, you'll get a tummy ache.
Hm, weird kind of salad, I see cucumber, possibly zuchinni, and what looks like ham? weird. Otodus sure doesn't mind though, it's tasty either way.
I even saved some of my dessert for Otodus, the lil guy was very grateful, especially after last time we had dessert and I didn't save any.
Meet new isopod Miggy! Nicknamed as such because I've read too many Feral Miguel O'hara fics by Night_Fracturer(highly reccomend them)
Anyway yes this is a Spiderman 2099 isopod, I picked him because frankly no other spiderverse design looked like I could translate it to an isopod. He won't be the only superhero isopod incoming, but he's the first one!
Construction notes: he doesn't have a tail like most other isopods mostly because he has the little cape and thus I figured he didn't really need one. I used a marker to sketch on the face markings before I embroidered them on and now I have marker on my fingers.
Make sure to look at the Miggy tag, it feels weird tagging Miguel O'hara every time a little isopod looking vaguely like him shows up in a shenanigans episode.
So, with the advent of summer, it is fruit picking season! We actually did this weeks ago, but thats what backlog does! For the record, all of the fruit was turned into various very very yummy things. Syrup, cobbler, jam, canned peaches, etc.
I forgot to get pictures of that process, whoops. Did get pictures of them helping pick the fruit though!
Queen Bee getting some blackberries from the vine! There's so many of them!
Minato up here helping too, he's doing so well.
Seafoam and Lepus, since they can't fly, are helping grab the ones they can reach from the ground.
Squishy helping out with ground ones too, be careful with those vines though! They're sharp!
Kitsune those aren't ripe yet, the black ones are the ones you're collecting. I know those ones are out of reach above your head, but maybe it's for the best, you are a white isopod and blackberry juice is very good at staining white things.
Otodus investigating a sharp vine(and maybe stealing some of the blackberries to munch on instead of bring back)
Aw thank you for helping with that Minato, Lepus! It's so sweet of you!
So many! (This was not, in fact, all of them, we had an entire nother container. This is normal, there's so many blackberries.)
At a later date:
Investigating the box(and also hitching a ride on the wagon)
Huh, weird, what's that? (A peach, albeit a small one, Otodus refused to believe they could get any bigger.)
Chat Noir making double sure they know what exactly they're all looking for. Fuzzy, reddish, probably bigger then them.
Whoops! Who left Otodus alone with the peaches! They'll try and bite them all!
Whoops, careful there kitty. No peaches here, maybe look a little closer to the tree? Where it's safer?
Otodus found peaches! Someone really needs to be assigned to keep them out of trouble.
Otodus has discovered a new friend! (It was such a pain to take a good picture of the ladybug and Otodus, and none of them are that great still)
Chat Noir and Queen Bee looking around the tree branches for more peaches. They're not the most successful. Probably because they're a little too small to really find much in a timely manner.
Wow look at all those peaches! So many of them! So yummy! Otodus don't you dare.
Looking out the back as they ride the wagon back! We had one more box/wagon actually, this was over 50 pounds of peaches. No the isopods had no idea what that meant, only that it was A Lot. It was a fun adventure though!
It was kinda easy taking pictures of the isopods at odd angles for the blackberries because I could just kinda stick them on a spike and they'd hang out there. Fear not, no one was stained, and no one was hurt except for me because I got scratched by blackberry brambles. That's fine and normal, blackberries are a hazardous fruit to collect. August was The Worst time for them to ripen because it's Hot and you need long sleeves and pants to get blackberries without being scratched to kingdom come.
Prefacing this by saying that it's perfectly okay for crochet things to get wet! For the most part, they won't mind. If they get dirty, it's usually just fine to toss them into a washing machine, although maybe let them air dry. You can also wash them by hand. Fear not, all of the isopods were dry by the next day, and suffered no ill effects from the following pictures.
Taking a very gentle dip in the water by sitting in a cute little hammock sitting thing. Yes all of them got a little wet taking this picture, thats okay, some of them will get even wetter.
Relocation onto a more secure floatie. They hang out on this for the majority of the time.
Whoops, floating away.
They were appreciative of the other kind of floaty, but uh if you check the picture really close you can see that they are, in fact, taped down. Seafoam falls off despite the tape soon after this. Tape isn't the best at holding onto damp little isopods.
A second floaty! This one just Seafoam's color! You can see Seafoam has gotten more damp since the last picture, that's because they fell. (The isopods float, I scooped them back out immediately, but they were already soaked)
Chicken Nugget has discovered goggles as a concept, he looks very cute with them on. Even if they don't fit him very well.
Investigating some dive toys, they've never seen things like these before. Toys supposed to be in the water? How strange.
Fear not I put them in on purpose this time, Otodus is enjoying their little swim. As you can see, they float. This is because they're made of yarn and polyester stuffing, neither of which is very heavy. Thus, they float.
Whoops, not so upright this time!
They found the rocks and wanted to play in them for a little bit. These rocks are also a waterfall feature, Squishy got the most wet from it.
Sprinkles hanging out on one of the rocks near the water.
Carapace peeking out from behind a small waterfall.
Otodus enjoying watching the water fall. Reasonable, I also like watching the water fall.
Squishy as photogenic as ever.
Sprinkles and Squishy behind another waterfall! Squishy got wetter from this then Sprinkles did for some reason.
Sprinkles and Squishy at a new location! They decided to venture all the way down the length of the waterfalls.
Axo, Isolotl, and Seafoam appear for the first time in the waterfall, hanging out in a nice little niche.
And of course
Everyone squished into a towel to try and dry off a little bit before they're stationed on a table to air dry the rest of the way. Aren't they all adorable?
As per tradition, we went to get our nails done while I was on my trip! Isopods, of course, came along and had opinions.
Demi and Cosmic inspecting the nail polishes and the sheer quantity of them. The others were inspecting it too, but I only have a picture of these two. Looks like Cosmic is taken with that sparkly one there. I like sparkly ones too, so I can only agree.
Otodus and Princess are very confused about this plastic thing and also by the water. Why feet in the water?
Then they spotted the person's box of things and were more interested in that.
Relocated to the arm of the chair so they don't accidentally fall into the water. Or get in the way. As you can see, Squishy and Kitsune weren't interested in such a boring thing. Featuring Dandelion, who also came along to supervise and make sure the little ones don't get in the way.
Hm now the water's all weird, wonder why?
Whoops, Otodus found the Aloe. That's not for you to eat kiddo. You wouldn't like it anyway. It's not the most tasty.
Hm, the water is no longer cloudy. Mischief? Or Magic? Unclear. Here's Demi, Princess, and Otodus attempting to figure it out.
I picked a shimmery blue and a sparkly copper color, they're all very appreciative of the colors, if a bit confused about why all of that stuff led to just that.
It's okay, they don't need to understand, they don't have toes to paint.
