I loved the OSHA design! I changed the colors to match the Safety Diamond, which indicates the hazards associated with an area or material. This may have been a mistake, given the amount of white, but I love how it turned out! After spending dozens of hours on this joke, I’ll be hanging it up in my lab when I get the chance. i feel like so many problems could be avoided if we'd all just genuinely and actively listened to children. i feel like so many kids would be so much happier and not have so many problems if a single adult gave them the safe space and attention they deserve. i once heard that children are one of, if not the, most oppressed ages because nobody believes in their autonomy. adults are kids' biggest advocates. validate kids' feelings. when they said something makes them sad or uncomfortable, listen to them. they deserve to be heard.
i promise you, if i was given a single shred of dignified and respected attention from an adult who actually, genuinely gave a single damn about things i was struggling with, i wouldn't be so fucked up today. i wouldn't be left an empty-handed adult left with the shortcomings of my upbringing. i would have so many other skills that i'm scrambling to pick up today. not only listen, but care about kids. let them know that you care.
also, respect. respect kids. respect their autonomy and space. for example, when i first met my boyfriend's nieces, one of them was pretty friendly, but the other wasn't. i introduced myself and greeted her, but she didn't say anything or looked at me. which is totally, absolutely fine. she was probably shy of strangers and that's absolutely valid. i didn't force her to talk to me. i didn't repeat myself. i didn't force her to hug me. i just let it be and let her be. and later on, she warmed up to me and it was all fine. all the while i was respecting her wishes and her feelings. teach kids they deserve to be respected by everyone, even adults.

Anyway adults saying “I don’t know isn’t an answer” is part of the reason I learned to lie and bluff so well.
Really though, what was that about? I don’t know is a valid answer. It communicates very clearly that the child cannot answer your question, and therefore maybe needs more help understanding the question/situation. Why do you try and push them to give an answer they don’t have? That stresses them out and it makes them feel like they’re being punished for not knowing something.
i thought i was the only one with an “i don’t know” problem because my parents made it seem it was the strangest and also most horrible thing in the world. i genuinely didn’t know and they got angry and that only blocked my thoughts more which meant i didn’t know the answer to anything else.

Also “I don’t know” is a commonly used sentence for children with ADHD/Autism. We DON’T know why we can’t do our homework. We DON’T know why we can’t eat certain foods sometimes. We DON’T know why we forgot to do a chore. It’s really distressing when you genuinely don’t know and people think you’re just lying or indifferent
