People are alluding to the idea that I'm secretly an Israeli nationalist because the algorithm on this blog recommends "similar blogs" with Israeli flags and usernames with "Zionist" in them, but that's just because I consistently call out antisemitism and use related tags. The people who most commonly talk about antisemitism are always going to be Jews, and most Jews are Zionists, so the algorithm will always compare anyone who talks a lot about antisemitism to blogs that look like that. You're not seeing behind the curtain to a secret Israeli nationalist side of the blog; you’re seeing what some popular Jewish blogs on Tumblr look like. If that's how you respond every time Tumblr's algorithm thinks the blog you’re reading is Jewish, you're going to be discriminating against Jewish users for fitting the profile of a Jew, and there's a word for that.

my family is lucky enough to own a 26 acre mountain property, log cabin and all. Most people would go up there and think that it is fairly pristine nature. There’s the cabin, and a few dirt roads for 4-wheelers, but the surrounding woods look untouched.

But we actually carefully maintain that nature. We cut down the deadfall. We pull invasive plants. We trim the elderberry bushes. We get more animals than almost anywhere else on the mountain because we put up salt licks and water troughs.

some of these same things are true of national parks. A lot of places that you think of as “untouched wilderness” are influenced heavily by human care and maintenance. And this isn’t a bad thing. We are animals too. In many ways, our ecosystems depend on us to keep them healthy. Many “wild” plants that are useful for food or building materials are actually semi-domesticated because indigenous groups cared for them and encouraged their growth so they do better with human care.

we have a place in nature. We just need to be conscious of our actions.

As op says, the native americans/first nations people shaped the land around them for their own benefit with the tools and technology at their disposal. The idea that they didn't is the kind of 'Closer to the land/magical elf' thinking that makes them simultaneously more and less human. (And honestly why Cameron's Avatar and stuff like it annoy the crap out of me, because it makes conservation a 'magical' act that has an idea that people 'shouldn't' interact with nature or even go into it if preserving it.)

One of my favorite things about having a degree in biochemistry is going undercover at a store like Sephora. I can read the composition of the cosmetics and actually understand them. There’s no words to describe how great it feels. It’s like being in on an inside joke or secret

The main thing I observe is that a lot of employees recommend makeup that is chemically incompatible. For example, if you ask them to recommend you a foundation and concealer, a lot of times they’ll pick two products that are chemically immiscible, so they’ll NEVER blend together successfully.

Generally foundation/concealer is either water or silicone based. There are upsides to each based on your needs. However, water and silicone are immiscible, and so if your foundation is water based but your concealer is silicone based, you will never get a good blend between these products. You’ll have to go back to switch to something that works.

If you want to test for this in-store, mix the two on the back of your hand. If they form a uniform mixture, they’re miscible. If they separate, they’re chemically incompatible, and should not be used together. You can do this for any number of skin products. Primers, moisturizers, foundations, concealers, contour sticks, etc etc. Anything that comes in liquid or paste form.

You don’t need to understand all the chemicals on the label to run this experiment!

As someone in pharmaceutical sciences I also experience similar things, so a hint from me: collagen is useless. In a cream it will not penetrate the skin, so doesn't do anything. As a food supplement, lemme tell you a secret: collagen is a protein. And when you eat protein, your stomach thinks its food and chops it up, so it can be used to make your own protein. Collagen is just expensive protein powder, and doesn't do anything meat or a veggie substitute does.

The "smash the paparazzi camera" trope is stupid for a few reasons. First. Cameras don't pap people, people pap people. Second. If you break the lens the memory card is going to be literally fine and now they have a picture of The Character about to smash the camera that they can sell for the price of a new camera.
