In case anyone was interested here are all the cats in my care and how they came to me and were thus named. This is also a reference for me someday in the future when I forget.
Nora - already named. We weren't going to keep her and her siblings, they came to me after their human mother passed. One went to a rescue friend, who managed to get her adopted. But Nora and Big Boy were 16 years old, and it felt wrong to try to find them homes when Nora especially was already so traumatized. Big Boy has since passed.
Butterscotch - Former community cat, gave him a name when he came back from being TNRd. Community cats generally get names based off their physical appearance and he was white and orange. He adopted us
Rosetta - Mama Glory was one of my community cats (we tried to tame her but she wasn't interested. We released her once that became clear. She lived happily in my colony until she passed earlier this year). She had her kittens in my basement, so I used them to capture her (kittens in a carrier tied to a trap, cover the whole thing in a blankie so mama goes in to try to get to her kittens). My favorite musical artist, Frank Turner, had just released an album about important women, so most of her kittens got named from that album. Rosetta came from Sister Rosetta, which is about Suster Rosetta Tharpe.
Charlie and Poirot - While still raising Glory's litter, the neighbor kids did basically that "knock knock are you the lesbian who helps cats" meme and we got five more (no idea where mom ended up). They all got random names. My mom thought Charlie and Poirot looked like they had mustaches, so they were named after famous people with famous mustaches.
Phantom, Goose, and Frenchie - Phantom was a former community cat who is all black and was named using the rule of "based off their physical appearance." When she became about-to-pop pregnant, she decided she wanted to be an indoor kitty. She had her kittens on Pi Day, so they all got names of actual pies or mathematicians who'd made important pi related discoveries. Frenchie's full name is French Silk Pie and Goosie's is Gooseberry Pie.
Morgan - Former foster who I took in when a fellow rescue friend needed some help. She was a very shy kitten she was struggling to socialize, so I offered to take her. Named her on the drive home, Morgan was just a name I liked at the time. She WOULD NOT SPCIALIZE, so I couldn't adopt her out. It's been like three years and she still avoids my mom and I completely.
Starr - Former community cat. She and Glory showed up on Fourth of July, so my mom gave them the holiday themed names Starr and Stripes. My parents didn't like that second name and eventually renamed her Glory. This is before I moved back in. Starr acted like she wanted to stay, so my parents brought her inside. When we'd had her for a year, we discovered she had a microchip (she'd been checked initially, but it had migrated and the vet didn't check properly). Mom did the right thing and contacted the lady, and she met with us to decide what to do. Starr had escaped while being hidden from the lady's landlord. She lived somewhere that allowed pets now and intended to take her home. When we met, it was clear Starr didn't remember her and was afraid, so we got to keep her.
The rest in a reblog because you can only add 10 pics to a post.
Only 10 pics per post, so the rest under the cut here.
Taz - already named. When my aunt and grandmother made the decision to move down south to live with aunt's daugter, they couldn't take their cats because son-in-law was allergic. She gave her most beloved, Razzmataz, to us.
All the rest are still community cats. I'd love to bring them in, but my house is full.
Hawkeye and Houlihan - When Phantom decided to make our house her base (before she decided to be an indoor cat), she had two small kittens. We'd named a bunch of community cats at a former residence after MASH characters, so they got MASH names. Hawkeye is female and Houlihan is male, which my parents didn't know at the time.
Sammy and Oney - Glory had a litter before her last that stayed outside, and they got Dr Seuss names. Oney, Thing One, is the only one still around. The others have died young or disappeared, an unfortunate commonality for cats outside and one of many reasons to bring and KEEP them indoors when possible. Sammy showed up around the time they got TNRd, so I named him Sam-I-Am. I'm 99% sure he's Rosetta's father. They're nearly identical minus color (she's a brown mackerel tabby and he's a gray mackerel tabby). I have pics of just Sammy, but he and Thad are never apart, so I have to choose one of both for their pics. Sammy is on the left.
Thad - My mom named him. No idea why she named him that. He's the only cat that came to our colony already TNRd. He and Sammy are in love. I have pics of just Thad, but he and Sammy are never apart, so I have to choose one of both for their pics. Thad is on the right.
Sylvester - He's a black and white cat 😂
