Finally! The Enjolras cross stitch is complete!! I won't lie, this may be my best portrait yet. He is 7.5" by 9.2" (approximately) and used 100 thread colours. Total time spent was 119 hours and 5 minutes. Full breakdown of timing and comparison with the corresponding Grantaire piece is under the cut.
Following this I will be taking a small break from making Les Miserables themed big cross stitches (shifting over to The Terror for at least the next three I have planned) but hopefully we will come back for more Les Mis themed stuff at some point (I definitely have several smaller projects lined up including a couple of quotes from the Brick although when they will be made I cannot say).
I do plan to get frames made for this pair of pieces by the same people who did the previous frame, and hopefully in a similar style, then they will eventually be put up alongside my main Les Mis piece in my living room. However, due to temporary financial constraints, I'm not sure when I will get round to this.
So, starting with the elephant in the room: this took way longer than it was meant to. I don't think I have ever taken this many breaks from a project (not including pieces that are on hiatus). There are several reasons, I wont go into them but broad strokes are in June I adopted my cats and then in July I was generally Not Having A Good Time.
But he is done! And more importantly he took less time to make than R! (full breakdown of timing that piece can be found on this post here) I was expecting them to be similar but there's a full 9 hour difference. My daily and weekly averages were also less on this one, although not massively for the daily averages. Regardless of the 4 months total elapsed, in terms of working days, at 48 days Enjolras only took one more day than Grantaire. Longest stitching day was 7 hours and 56 minutes and there were only four days where I stitched for 4 or more hours.
The main thing I was interested in as a comparison point was the hair. I said at the time R's was the hardest thing I've ever stitched and I still stand by that - despite both having curly hair, E's was significantly easier and I think it entirely has the colour palette to thank for that.
