I love getting unaccompanied minors (kids flying alone) who so clearly just. Don't want to be here lol. Sometimes I get to know a little of their story, like their parents are divorced, or a family member died and they're heading to the funeral, but usually they just don't want to talk about it and that's fine. But I always treat the flight like it's a challenge to make them smile. I offer them snacks and soda but that's never enough, that's whatever, they could get those from an airport vending machine. Chump change. So then I tell the worst jokes. Just the most embarrassing, kindergarten teacher, annoying dad jokes you can think of. And those always get a groan, or a "Seriously??" And that's my in! Now I can say "Why, what's your idea of a good joke? No, come on hotshot, make your best joke, let's see it." And they hem and they haw but of course they eventually tell me their very best joke because kids are little competitive comedy goldmines. And it's always super funny, so I laugh, and that's where they slip up. Because you know what you almost always do when your joke successfully makes someone laugh? You smile. And I'm like. Gotcha. Rookie move. Now you're going to end up having a good time in spite of yourself. I win.

Have you ever been to earth?
On earth, we use the word “burrito” to describe a tortilla filled with things you eat. Pretty simple stuff, and I’m surprised you at least got that part right. My burrito was, in fact, filled with food. In this, you and I agree and are friends. But this is also where my lifelong hatred begins for you and anyone else whose brain has been repeatedly scrubbed with the same mixture of bleach and Pop Rocks as yours has. Because that should have killed you, but left you around long enough to do what you did to me today. Let me explain:
You’re an idiot.
Let me further explain:
Burritos are eaten from one end to the other. So that means when you assemble a burrito with motherfucking ZONES of ingredients from one end to the other, you create a disgusting experience for the burrito’s end user. When you make a burrito, you should put the ingredients in layers lengthwise. That way, every bite has AT LEAST A FUCKING CHANCE of getting at least two types of ingredients, and there is little chance of becoming almost hopelessly trapped in a goddamned cilantro cavern.
Have you ever eaten one of the things you make all fucking day? You should try one. They are pretty good WHEN YOU ARE NOT WILLING YOURSELF THROUGH THE FUCKING EMPIRE OF SOUR CREAM TO GET TO LETTUCE COUNTRY.
When you eat a burrito, you don’t stand it up and bite down on it lengthwise like a fucking Rancor. Humans cannot usually dislocate their jaws to accommodate such methods. But you must think that’s how it’s done, since that would be THE ONLY FUCKING WAY to take a bite of your crapstrosity and have it taste like a burrito and not a multi-stage rocket to the planet Fucking Disgustingupiter.
And guess what else, player? You can’t guess anything, because I’m pretty sure you’re just a mop with a hat on it that fell over and spilled some shit into a tortilla, but just in case, here’s what:
Humans also don’t eat burritos like fucking corn on the cob. Like a fucking typewriter from one end to the other a little at a time and then DING next line. But today I wish I had tried that. Because at least THEN I would be able to eat some rice, then beans, then be all like HEY BEANS I’LL BE RIGHT BACK JUST GOING OVER HERE TO THE GUACAMOLE FOR A SECOND.
Nope.
My experience was more like HEY BEANS IT’S JUST GOING TO BE YOU AND I FOR A MINUTE UNTIL I CAN FUCKING EXCAVATE THE RICE FROM BENEATH YOU BUT BY THEN YOU WILL BE A FADING MEMORY OH HEY I WAS WRONG I’M IN THE FUCKING CHEESEOSPHERE NOW RICE MUST BE NEXT I HOPE IT’S NOT ANOTHER FUCKING SALSA POCKET.
And don’t even fucking think I’m about to open this shit up and re-engineer this nonsense. You and I already know this tortilla was made to maintain its physical integrity for thirty seconds once touched.
In conclusion:
You’re the worst thing that has ever happened to the universe, you owe everyone everywhere an apology for this burritobomination, and I hope your babies look like monkeys.

I was pretty neutral in opinion on Maekar, but seeing how many ppl hate on his parenting has me up on my soapbox in defense of his honor. Like my guy lost a baddie (bangin) (six kids remember?), birthright only counts if everyone else he loves dies, and he’s got two kids with the unstoppable Targaryen Brand Schizophrenia. What is he meant to do? He tried consequences and it made them worse. And that’s the thing!! They are just Like That. (See: Aerea Targaryen hops on the worlds biggest dragon leaves for a year and returns only to die basically immediately with something moving under her flesh like fucking Alien) They were always going to be that way, and no amount of parenting was gonna change that.
Maekar is at ‘sitting at the DMV waiting for your name to be called’ level of doomed.
Maekar wakes up in 205AC, in bed with his wife. Dyanna is confused about why he is sobbing and clutching at her. She finds out that the child she carries leads to her death and all the horrible things to come to the Targaryens before Maekar himself died.
She immediately starts planning on having more help with the birth and surviving, and if she doesn't, then matters need to be handled.
The next day, both are surprised to find three of their children, also remember: Daeron, Daella, and Aemon. Aerion luckily shows no sign of remembering, which makes everyone hope they can curb his more "crazed" beliefs early this time. Aegon also shows no signs of having future knowledge.
Later, they learn that Baelor and Kiera of Tyrosh also remember. Baelor and Maekor spend a long time sequestered while Maekar keeps apologizing in between telling Baelon what happened after his death. Kiera and Daeron are awkward around each other but she is currently pregnant with Valarr's child, so Dyanna decides to also increase her prenatal care as well. Aemon suspects that Brynden Rivers and Shiera Seastar also remember, but neither give any indications, just vague words. Aemon does start researching things that will help but also limits how much he tells the rest, stating he will tell them when it is necessary but doesn't want to influence anything negatively. Brynden starts hinting that Aemon should train to be his successor.
Maekar is surprised to have Ser Arlan of Pennytree at the gates of Summerhall, claiming to have been summoned. Aemon confesses it was he who sent the raven. The family gathers to greet their new arrivals in the great hall. It is then that Aegon bolts towards the squire, screaming, "Dunk, Dunk, Dunk!!!", and to everyone's surprise, the squire shouts back, "Egg!!!!".

When my son was about to turn two, strangers would offer condolences. There’s a collective cultural dread of toddlers, who get described more like animals than people. Kids in their "terrible twos," I was warned, are illogical, unregulated, and feral. "Good luck," people would say. "He'll grow out of it."
I'm lucky: My son is a very easygoing kid. But I remember the first tantrum he threw for me. He was standing by our front door and asked to go outside. So I opened the door and grabbed his shoes. But as soon as he stepped onto the porch, he pointed back into the house.
"Inside," he said.
"Okay," I said. I picked him up and brought him inside.
But as soon as I shut the front door, he pointed outside.
"Outside!" he said.
You know where this is going. We went back and forth, inside and outside, again and again. He got more frustrated. And I got more frustrated. Eventually he wound up straddling the threshold of our house, sobbing. When I tried to comfort him, he screamed at me. "You go wherever you want!" I said. He just got madder. I felt trapped, convinced he’d concocted the whole episode as a pretext to unleash his rage at me. It was ridiculous. I consoled myself with the thought that he was just being a toddler.
But later I kept thinking about him wailing at our front door, one foot inside, one foot outside. His misery wasn't unreasonable, or trivial, or silly. My son was experiencing the agony of wanting two things that were impossible to have at the same time. What a fundamentally human sorrow! My son wasn't being a toddler; he was being a person. Adults may not walk around howling, but that same pain rages within us. In that moment, as a father, I was powerless to solve my son's problem. I told him he could go wherever he wanted, but of course I was wrong. To be where he wanted was impossible.

we always hate it when people call it terrible twos. they aren't terrible. they are just learning what it feels like to be a person, and sometimes those feelings are confusing, unbearable, and distressing. we can't expect self soothing and emotional regulation if we haven't had adequate time to teach it. we can't expect distress tolerance from a human who has not felt that level of distress before, who has not learned to tolerate it because (hopefully) their needs have been met and addressed regularly.
Hell, give me a high enough dose of an illicit substance or two and I'll probably have a very similar emotional experience this kid did and deal with it about as well.
