My Current Hair Care Routine
After months of trial and error, Iāve finally settled on a hair care routine. As Iāve blogged about before, I have trichotillomania (which is a long silly word meaning I have trouble controlling the compulsion to pull out my hair). My scalp is often irritated, which makes me want to mess with it more and the cycle continues. Trich is a constant struggle for me and I may never get it fully under control, but having a routine that keeps my scalp healthy and balanced certainly helps.
Anyway, hereās what Iāve found that works for me. My scalp + hair have never felt healthier.Ā
ROOTS Hair Treatment by LUSH
At least once a week, I take a long hot bath and start with Lushās Roots hair treatment. Itās minty and delicious. I massage it into my scalp, comb it through the rest of my hair, then put my hair up in a clip.
Once my hair treatment is soaking in and working its magic, itās bath bomb time. My latest favorite is MmmMelting Marshmallow. Itās technically a bath melt, not a bath bomb. Whatever.
Now is also a great time to put on a face mask. And some music or a podcast. Just saying.
SQUEAKY GREEN Shampoo Bar by LUSH
Once the Roots treatment has had a chance to do its thing (Lush recommends 5-10 minutes, Iāll sometimes do longer if Iām too zenned out.) itās time to rinse and wash. Lately, Iāve been all about Lushās shampoo bars.Ā
If youāre unfamiliar with what a Shampoo bar is itās basically like a bar of soap that you lather up and use to wash your hair.Ā Lushās shampoo bars donāt have any of the sulfates and junk found in most shampoos that strips the natural oil from your hair. It might take a few days for your scalp to adjust but itās so worth it. Iām hooked for life.Ā
Iāve been using Squeaky Green lately which is a blend of rosemary, peppermint,Ā tea tree,Ā vanilla and chamomile. All the good stuff!Ā Iām also a fan of New! because it has cinnamon and cloves and supposedly helps with hair growth.Ā Also, shampoo bars are a really good value. You get a bazillion washes per bar.
AMERICAN CREAM Conditioner by LUSH
This post is not sponsored by Lush, I swear. Iām just a loyal customer. American Cream is admittedly the only Lush conditioner Iāve ever tried, but Iām hooked and donāt wanna mess with a good thing. It smells like a strawberry vanilla milkshake. The scent hangs around a while too! I can still smell the vanilla the next day.
Between washes I use dry shampoo to absorb any excess oil and give my hair more body and volume. Iāve tried quite a few and I think itās safe to say that Batiste is my favorite!Ā
Between the amazing Lush products Iāve discovered and finally adjusting to washing my hair less often by using dry shampoo, Iāve managed to get my scalp to calm down a bit and Iām finally learning to love my hair again.Ā
Do you have any hair care products you swear by?
