can’t believe suzanne collins called north america “a land full of Capitols” in tbosas and set the reaping on the fourth of july and people still don’t get that the hunger games is a critique of american capitalism. how much more direct is she gonna be in sunrise on the reaping.

saw someone complain that suzanne collins’ use of “the raven” to repeatedly interrupt the last few pages of the book as haymitch’s life quite literally disintegrates into ash and dust was distracting and annoying—

and to that person i would argue that i personally believe it was a really ominous and tragically beautiful way to represent the absolutely mind-numbing state of grief that haymitch finds himself in post-homecoming and all the way up until the 74th games. during these passages, we get an expedited view of how he has successfully driven everyone away, except for the stubborn, ill-begotten company of his aching loss—his raven.

it’s both poetic and haunting to think that year after year—whether he is in drunken stupor, hungover haze, or painful sobriety—haymitch spends two decades hearing his raven tapping at his chamber door when no one else is left to.

jason grace canonically ONLY ever cried once throughout the whole series. it was when gaea taunted him in his dreams, saying that he belonged no where, that he wasn't roman enough for camp jupiter, and wasn't greek enough for chb to accept him, and that though his father was the king of olympus, he was always considered second best by everyone, he was not enough. he woke up with tears in his eyes.

Some Jedi seem to follow traditions of their birth culture and other don't. I haven't see any explanations to this, so I imagine that younglings are searching for their birth place in space google and deciding if it cool enough to follow its traditions.

(Gwen's undying love for Ben is one of the most interesting parts of her character, because the way she goes about protecting him amplifies her savior complex more than anything. Ben comes first, doesn't matter if it's innocent aliens or her own family. They've been through so much together that she would rather the world burn than let it take Ben from her. i dont like the way gwen's written post 2006 series, but her massive savior complex is my favorite addition)
