WE ARE REBELS (W.A.R.)

Camo keeps coming back for more. I scored this military jacket at a thrift store for a possible Halloween outfit but ended up in my closet as one of my staples. It's so easy and fun to wear out on a Tuesday. Mix it up with some ripped jeans, some white sneakers and you're good to go. And that's just one way to style it! OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK This is the first song i've heard from T.L.O.P and immediately gravitated to that beat. 30 hours has this hypnotizing beat to it that makes you wanna groove for, well 30 hours. It's a great track compared to what's being produced for the radio right now. Not everyone gets Kanye, but you can still appreciate good music.

ZERØ FVCKS

Once Beyoncé dropped Formation to the masses, I was compelled to shoot a look inspired by the video. I channeled that bad ass/no phucks attitude that she was displaying (Rihanna who?). What perfect timing to debut the garment that I worked on with one of my best friends Esmeralda for last year’s Halloween costume where we recreated the Yeezy collection. I’m in love with how good it turned out from the details to the distressing!

OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK It’s no question that I chose Flume for this look. “Smoke and Retribution” is very aggressive and was made for those dark warehouse parties. The song is off of his sophomore album, Skins, which debuts later this year. It’s about time he comes out with something to jam to, i’ve missed it!

LEVITATE

It's great to experiment with your style while keeping true to your aesthetics. Long line outfits are the rage these days but are starting to look very templated with the same styling of ripped jeans and sneakers. I tried to elevate the look by pairing it with some oxford shoes, rolled up slacks, and a brim hat to top it off. The Levitating Mass was the perfect location for it because it gave such a cool, edgy vibe and of course it's just a fascinating piece in itself. Always explore, experiment, and evolve with your outfits but never lose yourself in it. What do you think of this look? OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK When two talented songstress come together, there is no doubt that only magic will come out of it. Wolfpack is a great commanding song that really showcases their artistry and individuality. The song really empowers women to be in support of each other, like Wolfpack.

WATER RUNS DRY

I finally got the chance to visit the ever so famous L.A. River, which is funny because it doesn’t have much water to be called a river. You’ve seen it everywhere in movies, magazines, etc. I was there and the most unfortunate thing happened, my phone slid down and fell into a puddle. It was a tragedy but it managed to recover itself after a day’s rest. 

Los Angeles has only one season and it is summer, summer forever. I wanted to blend in with the river’s structure by giving this a more destroyed and washed look. Linen is perfect for the weather and to add rips and holes to it was the perfect ventilation and style matched with a washed out denim, you can’t go wrong. My favorite piece has to be the Adidas tubular that i’ve recently added to my shoe collection. It’s so comfortable and beyond cool looking, looks like something out of a futuristic space movie. 

OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK You Never Knew is the lead single from Negative Gemini. The lofty vibe of the track resembles that of Purity Ring and Grimes, so rest assured this will be a breakout pop hit.

XYLØ - AFTERLIFE

I can’t believe i’m only hearing about XYLØ now. I’ve been off my game because they’ve already released two songs prior to this. It seems like sibling bands are a thing and XYLØ is just one of the many out there. With their sultry and dark sound, it reminds me of another bro-sis duo—Broods. Paige’s vocals glides through the chorus and production. The mysterious-tinged pop is perfect to usher us into the fall and set the mood.

NO RIGHT, NO WRONG. JUST BLACK AND WHITE

I feel like i’m in limbo with sweater weather at the moment, it’s not too hot nor too cold. So having a lightweight sweater is the perfect piece to have around this time of season. I’ve had this knit sweater in my closet for a while now and nothing can beat a classic black and white color scheme. It never loses its style. The texture of the sweater creates an interesting look and feel. Topping it if off with this wide brim hat gives it a lot of umph. Whenever you can’t decide on what to wear, Black and White is always a good combo. OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK Lil Silva is known for producing addictive tracks for Banks, who is a star on the rise. He is the Timbaland to her Aaliyah. Sometimes when you find the perfect combo (just like black and white) you have to stick with it! They have perfect artistic chemsitry and vocally go well together. Take a listan and let the warm, luscious synths take you away to a mellow place.

SLOW BURN

Tan on tan is my latest obsession, which I call it tan-ing. It’s no surprise because I love wearing neutral colors and utilizing various tones to style a look. Only till recently that I’ve started thinking about tones when I shop. As a Graphic Designer I appreciated tonal treatment but never really tried it with my outfits. This just goes to show you any thing can be translated to a different form of medium. 

OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK As you know i’m a huge fan of CHVRCHES and this song doesn’t disappoint. They don’t let their overnight success get to their head and that’s what is so refreshing about this duo. Instead of splurging on a studio, they went back to how they created the magic in their first album, in a flat outfitted with soundproof materials. Taking the less is more approach. They know their sound and aren’t straying away from that, because why ruin a good thing?! Can’t hardly wait for Sept. 25 for the second album to drop!

WITHERING AWAY

This summer was filled with many adventures and one of them was here in California. The great thing about California is there are so many beautiful places to go in a short distance. Since the drought, the grass is not always greener on the other side. There were tons of barren land and abandoned buildings. The combination of the two makes me want to explore them. And that’s what I did...we pulled out and started snapping away. I enjoyed looking for backdrops that matches my outfit.

OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK Day Wave aka Jackson Phillips is bursting into the indie pop scene with his beaming summer track, “Drag”. Don’t peg him as a new-comer because he has been in the industry for quite some time now as the other half of the electro-pop duo, Carousel. I enjoy his mixture of buoyant melody and dreamy beats contrasting his melancholic lyrics.

"'Drag' was originally a more optimistic song, and it wasn't called 'Drag'. After recording it once, I decided to change the chords, which then lead me to changing the lyrics. And eventually it turned into a song about messing up everything I touch."

Drag fits the mood of a road trip as the sun beams on you.

ODESZA x LITTLE DRAGON - LIGHT

Odesza returns with a slow burner featuring Little Dragon for their deluxe version of “In Return”, which will be out September 18. Yukimi Nagano’s voice nestles perfectly with the smooth drumming grooves and the glimmering synths. It just feels magically sexy! The Seattlite duo are doing something right because they are now heading out on an expansive world tour. You must see them if they are in your town, you won’t regret it!

DUMBLONDE - REMEMBER ME

Rising from the ashes of the disbanded pop group Danity Kane, Aubrey O'Day and Shannon Bex formed the pop duo, dumblonde! Don't expect the type of music they are known for, this is a far from it. It is more experimental and conceptual. I appreciate all the details and effort that is going into crafting their brand, look, visuals, and music. They are hard at work producing 6 videos and 2 have been officially released. You should check them out.

'Remember Me' is part of their upcoming LP that drops September 25. The song is a stand out because of its hints of reggae and you know how I can't deny my island roots. It's a perfect summer chill jam. Both Aubrey and Shannon's voice mesh so perfectly. They have definitely found their groove. Let's just hope this continues because i'm on the dumblonde bandwagon!

Street Soldier

It’s not everyday you get to wear camo, but when you do make it count! So I dusted off these pants from the closet and revived them. The camo pattern became the foundation of this look when piecing it together. I knew that it would make a statement so the rest of the look should supplement that. I paired it with a distressed sweater and a wide brim hat to give it that urban flair. There are so many ways you can dress with camo, this is just one I experimented with. What do you think of this look? OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK Paralyze by Klyne is the perfect track for San Francisco’s summer. It’s cool yet warm with an interesting piano scales, not to mention those surprising pauses! Listen to this electronically charged lo-fi track which also has a music video thats as tantalizing as their sound.

JACOB BANKS - MONSTER

Take notice of Jacob Banks, the UK artist returns with his stompy new powerful sound! You can feel the passion and conviction through his voice and lyrics. It's so inspiring! If you liked Bastille’s Pompeii, you’ll definitely be a fan of this.

“This song was born out of a lot anger,” says Jacob. “I wrote it in my bathroom – proper rock and roll! I’m going through life at a very fast pace and I’m learning a lot of things the hard way. One of the things I’ve learnt is that as much as I don’t like it, sometimes you have to become a monster to get what you want and I may well have to become the miracle I’m searching for."

ANYWHERE WE GO

I've been loving the distressed look. Though you need to be careful when dressing distressed because sometimes you can just look downright homeless or giving no phucks about your appearance. What I like to do is mix and match something more polished with the distressed item so that way it you have a balanced look. OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK Kaptan is a indie pop act from Nashville, Tennessee! Who knew Nashville can churn out more than country, I love it. The track has a dreamy optimism vibe about life and thats what makes it great so catchy. Can't wait till he drops his EP—Sprinter on August 18.

GREAT GOOD FINE OK X ST. LUCIA - SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN (PAPERWHITE REMIX)

What a great band name, sounds like something I would say during a conversation and probably the longest title for a post. Best of all it features St. Lucia, who just happens to be one of my faves. The duo gives us a strong 80s vibe with their falsettos which makes my heart want to dance. Seems like the trend is to go back in time and its working.  Add Paperwhite to this track and you’ve got something out of an 80s cosmic ride, neon graphics and all. YES! This track is on fire, whooo!

SUMMER WHITES

Never been a fan of a full on white outfit until this summer because  I’ve been experimenting a lot of tonal colors and mixing textures lately. This knit sweater has the perfect texture to it and feels so comfy in the foggy weather! Trust me it’s been a while since i’ve seen a full on sunny day, so they come in handy during not-so-summer days like these. Rolling up your pant legs can turn your outfit to feel more casual and summer, don’t be afraid to show a little ankle.  OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK Filous delivers a great debut with, “How Hard I Try”. He enlists the wispy voice of James Hersey to do vocals. The Australian musician has been making a name for himself in the electronic community with his remixes. It’s about time he comes out with original material. His EP, Dawn, will expose his musical talents because he played every instrument on the album.

MURA MASA FT. NAO - FIREFLY

Firefly has the perfect blend of house and dance elements with a touch of tropical influence. I can envision myself with palm trees surrounding me as I doze away to the beat. Mura Masa nailed it on this track with Nao who has a similar tone to Aluna Francis from AlunaGeorge, it's refreshing and captivating. I encourage you all to jump on his latest EP Someday, Somewhere.

MODERN WORKWEAR

Last week I was in Chicago for the HOW Design Live conference (check out my Instagram for more of my trip), it was overwhelmingly inspiring and exhausting all at once! The place was filled with creatives, so it’s safe to say that first impressions last. I wanted to look casual for the long days but also be ready for business at the same time. As a creative, I get to put looks together for work that can best represent myself and also my personal brand. It’s important to be who you are and also be taken seriously in a boardroom meeting without having to wear a power suit. So for this look, I wore a nice long length button up and put a gray terry cloth sweater over it and paired it with some cool drop crotch joggers and sneakers. An extra added flare was the long felt coat that added to the BOSS look. This was a very fun look to style because of its juxtaposition.

OUTFIT SOUNDTRACK Travis Garland did his own take to The Weeknd’s Earned it (from the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack). The seductive cover takes the original to another direction. It has more of an edgy and sexier vibe, opening with a harder fuzzy guitar riff and undulating bass beats that cannot be stopped. Travis’ vocals definitely fit like a glove with this version and he owned it or dare I say he earned it.
