Don had a point. As usual. Renoir rubbed his chin with one hand as his brown eyes flicked back to the mutant pigs. This world had pretty much been hostile from day one, passively or aggressively—and the latter was much harder to deal with than the former. Mapping out the rest of the block would open them up to a good deal of risk…
It wasn’t until a few long moments passed before he slapped his own forehead. “Duh! We’re ninjas! Or, well, a ninja and a half.” He turned to the purple-clad turtle, a grin blooming on his features. “Maybe we can disarm some of these guys and use their weapons to take out the rest? Lure them into the shadows? I’ve been told that I’m a good distraction…”
Somehow that grin only served to make him worry about this little plan more. The whole thing operated on the hope that things would turn out exactly as they’d predicted Raphael--or at least the one he had been with--always pointed out that ‘turtle luck’ was usually not that kind.
To be fair though, his plan amounted to ‘stay here and slowly suffer from dehydration’.
Renoir’s plan was something, at least...
“Well, let’s hope that ‘distraction’ of yours doesn’t get you shot...I’m assuming you had a plan for luring them over here?”
itsallintheequation liked this post for a starter!
The alternate Donatello was settling almost too nicely within the lair; after the initial introductions and getting him acquainted to their lives, Raph was beginning to grow used to his presence being just another constant. The fact that he was another version of Don helped; it meant that he had to grab some extra scrap metal from time to time, but it wasn’t that big of an inconvenience.
Opening the lock to the scrapyard’s gate, he opened it with minimal effort, holding it as he stepped aside. “Whatcha lookin’ fer t’night? Maybe I can help.” Raph had done it often enough, all of his brothers had, but maybe this Don was looking for something especially specific.
As long as he could be of more use than leading him, though, he was satisfied.
It was fortunate that Raphael knew of a different scrapyard to search through. The one he had been using--while a lot closer than this new one-- was running woefully short of the components he needed to help his much taller double keep the lair in running order.
Especially considering it had been the washing machine that had decided to break this time; Granted, it was a model five years older that what was actually on the market...
...But it wasn’t as though they could just up and get a newer one.
“I’d actually appreciate that...” he said before huffing quietly. “The washing machines spoke finally up and broke, meaning we need to find a compatible replacement.”
It also meant they’d have to canvass the junk filled lot until they found something suitable, even more reason why he was glad to have help.
He was excited. Leonardo was going to meet with this fellow mutant for more appropriate teaching. Good, good. He was nearly bouncing his place. Well, no, he was bouncing, a huge grin on his face, eyes wide with anticipation.
“Yes, good. I can make it!” He said, flailing his arms. “Where do we meet??”
He returned the eager grin with a smile of his own, momentarily caught upe in the younger turtles excitement. “Here seems as good a was place as any!” It was out of the way, inconspicuous and even if things got a little loud he doubted someone would go out of their way to investigate.
“Considering we both know how to find this place, we could probably make this out meeting spot for a while.” He scratched at his neck idly, “At least until you’re a little more familiar with the city, anyway.”

I did this one a few years ago, and it’s still one of my favorite illustrations I’ve done.

"Near that old movie theater Raph used to go to—the one on Twelfth. Someone had just dropped it…”
“You’re kidding me...who just drops something like this?”
The very notion of somebody dropping something such a valuable component was more than a little suspicious, even more so considering it was still in a good condition.
That sounded about right. Wynn could definitely remember hearing something similar to that, but the girl had always figured that it was a myth that had just been largely passed around. If Donatello knew it as a fact though, Wynn figured that it must’ve been true - the purple-clad terrapin seemed to be one for getting his facts right, after all.
“M-Mississippis, h-huh… ?” Shifting her gaze back out the window, Wynn watched as the rain slammed down onto the city, the only sound louder than the water itself being the thunder that resounded. As a flash of lightning arced across the sky, summoning another rumbling crack in its wake, Wynn found herself counting like Donnie had told her to.
One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi, four Mississippi-
And then the thunder sounded again, and Wynn looked back to her companion once it reached her ears. “S-So that one w-was about… four m-miles, y-yeah?”
“Give or take a few kilometers, yes.”
The terrapin leaned against the windowsill, his breath fogging the surface slightly with his proximity. “As the storm passes over us the count will take longer and longer.” He shrugged, “Usually, anyway.”
Another off-white flash diverted his attention and he was just in time to watch as another burst of lightning lit up the cloud line before fading. Thunder followed soon after and Dons eyeridges rose in surprise.
“That was...surprisingly close this time. Wynn, did the forecast say anything about the storm being this bad?”
An eye ridge had risen on his purple-clad fellow, and Raph already knew that he was going to go along. When Don finally answered, though, a grin bloomed on Raphael’s features.
“Perfect! Then let’s pack some stuff t’take!” At that, he rose and immediately made to grab one of the duffel bags that his Don tended to leave around and use for his tools. It would be a good idea to stash some towels in here, after all, and even though it was only the two of them…
Hoisting the empty duffel over his shoulder, Raph added, “Think we might hafta take th’Sewer Slider t’get there—th’Battleshell’s way too noisy, an’ Mikey migh’ try jumpin’ in on this…” And Leo would catch them sneaking out for sure, and then send them back to square negative one.
Negative in the fact that Raph’s pestering would be worse, but directed at his older brother instead.
He wasn’t sure if Raph was happy that he’d caved so quickly, or happy because they’d be going to the beach. Either way his smile was infectious, and though he tried to seem as though he was put-off by this turn of events, it all but crumbled though considering the small smile that pulled at his beak.
Even as the taller turtle snatched at his own duffel bag to pack a few essentials like turtle wax, his novel and some bottled water from the fridge he could hear his other rattle off details to his impromptu plan.
Don was suddenly reminded of a kid planning his trip to the toy-store.
“We’d better pack quickly then, Your Leo called to mention he’d be back soon...It’s been a quiet night, but you know him...”
Don’s remark earned him an eyeroll, but Raph did ease up on his leaning somewhat to think a bit more. Scrap runs weren’t an option, there were two Donatellos in the lair right now—that made the idea kind of redundant. The Purple Dragons and the Foot Clan had been especially quiet lately, so patrolling was like trying to find needles in a haystack…
His eyes lit up as he remembered something he’d heard from a few days ago. “How ‘bout goin’ to the beach? Their security cams broke a few days ago an’ the owners were havin’ some budgetin’ problems—we can go there an’ relax ‘til mornin’, an’ nobody’ll know we were there.”
At least, that’s what Mikey had said—and who knew the reliability of that statement. If it meant having something to do, though, Raph was willing to put aside that tiny detail for now.
He was about to turn the page of his novel yet again, and figure out just why Pauline would leave Ricardo for his childhood friend Armand when--
An eyeridge couldn’t help but rise, either in skepticism or interest. With a quiet snap he closed the book; Armand was using his wealth to bribe Pauline, knowing she had an ailing grandmother and medical bills that needed paying. Same old same old.
“Alright, I’ll bite.” He said at last, “It’s been...quite awhile since I’ve been to the beach actually.” Compared to an evening reading his novel for the umpteenth time, this was a far better alternative.
There was a brief pause as Raph thought about it. He’d already watched one of the movies from Mikey’s DVD collection, so movies weren’t an option; he’d beat the shit out of his punching bag already, so that was out; and, well, his Shellcycle had been confiscated by his own Don for repairs, so he couldn’t even ride around the city.
“I dunno, somethin’ other’n waitin’ fer you t’put down yer book? You’ve probably already read it four or five times already, knowin’ you.” He was beginning to debate just snatching the book away just for something to happen, but he figured he was already doing enough of a job annoying him to get the ball rolling.
“Whether I’ve read it five or ten times is irrelevant.”
To punctuate his point he turned to the next page leisurely. Inwardly however he resigned himself to the fact that he was merely stalling against the inevitable. Whenever Raph was bored, he was usually dragged into whatever idea struck him leading into interesting, oftentimes dangerous results.
“If you’ve got ideas I’m all ears...but if not...” and yet again he turned his page; Oh look, the story was picking up again.
