On the cusp of autumn, we gathered a small group of friends atop Bernal Hill to record a mix while watching the sun go down over San Francisco. This is the first in our series of “20 •” listening events, where we gather in a scenic landscape that influences how we mix, and in turn influences those listening: a kind of triad between nature, music, and human interaction. We came together to enjoy the company of one another, laugh, listen, and dance. We couldn't have asked for a more intimate setting - rugs and blankets sprawled on the grassy hill top and the scent of fall washing over everybody. At the end of our recording session, the rain started to fall, but we weren't ready to stop… and neither were you. The most amazing part of the night was when you all gathered around us holding up blankets and jackets to shield the equipment from water damage. We spent the weeks leading up to this refining our intent with this sound project, "SkyFish", and how we might keep our path true to its origins on Mt. Tamalpais and at Burning Man - organic, always keeping our environment and our people at the forefront. So thank you to everyone involved. We look forward to developing this project through future recording sessions in other beautiful locations. Our goals for SkyFish include incorporating lecture series and open discussions on the intersections between music, community, nature, spirituality and science. Stay in touch! Wendell is hands down the greatest homeless fashion designer who ever lived. He makes almost all his clothes from things he finds. I hadn’t seen him in awhile, so I was quite thrilled to walk up on him Tuesday, doing this to a Gandhi statue.

Last month, a group of Tashi Lhunpo monks created a sand mandala at London’s Samye Dzong to commemorate its founder, Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche, who was killed in China on October 8th. See how the beautiful mandala takes form and, in keeping with the law of impermanence, is destroyed.
