For any Marauders fans who aren't British, you may be unaware that the summer of 1976 was one of the most severe droughts in UK history, and one of our hottest summers. This would have been the Marauder's fifth year and the beginning of their sixth, as it lasted into October. It was one of our hottest summers on record. With that in mind, here's how they coped at home:

James and Sirius, both living at the Potters by this point, have cooling charms covering the entire house. Because the trace only detects magic done in the vicinity, and they live with two magical adults, they're summoning cold water and ice every hour. At least five water fights occurred.

Remus is lying face-down in the grass outside. The grass is cool, and they're watering it via charms because there is no rain. Cooling charms over the house by default, but especially in Remus's designated transformation spot. Fur+Heat=Hell.

Peter lives next to the fan now. All windows are open. Any minimal breeze has been claimed by him. He's also an ice cream person under normal hot weather, but it was melting too quickly that year.

During the school year? Peter opened all windows and they keep an abnormal amount of water on there person. Some of it is for chucking at people tho.

Hello. I am an ex Mormon. I have a rant.

Have you ever been to Vegas with a bunch of Mormons? Not like the nuanced ones. Im talking garment-wearing, never even tried herbal tea, if you say 'damn' in their presence they'll stare at you like you're an alien Mormons.

I have. It's a journey. Here are some of the things I witnessed:

- "Why does everything smell like cigarettes/pot?"

- "Do they not realize that's not healthy?"

- Insulting the intelligence of people who gamble (a recurring theme)

- *after walking past some Chippendales promoters* "Haha, good luck avoiding them, Sister In Law!"

- Insulting the intelligence of people who smoke

- Questioning why getting to anything involves walking through a casino

- Intentionally walking around an entire building to avoid walking through a casino

- "That was an interesting experience. I never want to repeat it." "Yep, that's Vegas!"

- Insulting the intelligence of people who drink

- "I dont want to stand over there. It smells like pot." (We were watching the fireworks. In a crowd of people. Three minutes later, we were in the area they were talking about)

- Also, I had to alert them to the presence of tea in the Around the World tray at the Coca-Cola shop.

I am exhausted.

I would like to propose the following test for all amusement parks.

1-2 months before opening, all amusement parks must invite a class of first graders in to test the lines. Said first graders must stand in the queue area for half an hour. If these first graders find fun little gaps they can run through, or fun places to jump/hang off of, adjustments must be made.

Acceptable adjustments:

- A Thing To Tug On: this can be a thing that makes a sound, or makes something light up, or dumps water on the unsuspecting child after a random number of attempts

- A Ramp To Run On: one of those trapezoid things, idk. 12 inches tall, max.

- Textures To Poke At: like the thing with a thousand plastic pins in it that holds the shape of your hand. Or your face. Or your butt. You know the one.

- Extra Walls: ffs, small children should not be able to slip out of line and run halfway across the park before their mother notices. Do better. Im getting secondhand anxiety just thinking about it.

This, inspired by a small child i saw jumping in and out of line for Atlantis at SeaWorld San Diego.

If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.

1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.

2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.

3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.

4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.

5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.

Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.

So. Small life update.

A relative of mine was arrested recently on felony charges :) involving a minor :) he is a repeat offender, and my family insists on inviting him to functions :)

Also, I had to work a full day of overtime on my day off. I need the money, but I needed that day off.

Also, I just broke down crying in the shower about how I am failing at life.

Also, im pretty sure im a terrible sibling and will never find love again (because dating is expensive and also i am fundamentally undateable).

Coincidentally, the chapter for my fic this week is extra super angsty. So now, I can find company for my misery.

There is a cat, though. And she is adorable. So that helps i guess.
