Hello everyone!

I know there are some of you expecting sketches and the new illustration for the Mystic Messenger birthday illustration series, namely V/Kim Jihyun, in a few days. With all the priorities and upcoming events happening in my life, I have to postpone V’s illustration to a later date. Hopefully, my schedule will clear up enough in the weeks to come!

Perks of being an artist: making your own birthday cards for my Mum :D

I’ve dived headfirst into the watercolor scene and I’m liking where it’s taking me. My typical style is usually detail-oriented and complex, but I’ve decided to go minimalist the past few days for my adventures in bullet journaling. (Yep, I’ve finally jumped on that trend train - maybe I’ll take photos one day...)

This piece was particularly inspired by my theme for June, and my Mum liked it’s clean and simple design. Since it’s my Mum’s birthday today, I painted this for her! Happy birthday, Mum! <3

I don’t normally talk about my personal life on this blog, but for this particular piece, I feel it’s appropriate as this is a personal piece. These cats have been my creations since Senior year of high school: cute, simple, and fun to draw. And for the longest time, I have always wanted to do a webcomic about them.

My current job is pretty lax, so with whatever free time I had, I used it to chat with my coworkers, secretary, or boss. My boss is an avid cat lover and found out about my drawing abilities through these cats. She fell in love with these cats from day one.

This week was my boss’s last days working as...well, my boss. And as of May 10th, she officially retired. So as commemoration of her retirement, I painted these cats as a personal “Thank you” for being a great mentor, teacher, and friend at an opportunity I almost turned away.

I can draw other things aside from Mystic Messenger, too!

The last time I drew anything Sailor Moon-related was, like, 2 years ago when it reached its 20th anniversary! At the time, I tried to mimic Takeuchi’s style as a nod to her creator. To be honest, I never thought of drawing her in my style, ever. That was until I had this strange urge to draw Princess Serenity holding the Millenium Crystal. [Besides, Princess Serenity is just pretty!]

But hey: it gave me a good excuse to practice some anatomy at 1AM! So I’ve got that going for me. [Yeah, I’m not sure what I was thinking either.]

Happy birthday, Zen!

I very rarely ever color anything, let alone in traditional media. But there’s a certain joy and beauty in acrylics and watercolors, even if it’s on a color scratchpad.

The blizzard that hit the Northeastern US really bummed me: just when I thought I can finally see the ground, 2 feet of snow covers it all up again! No matter, no matter! It doesn’t stop me from painting my nails with the beauty of spring in mind!

This was more of an experimental test than a meticulously planned design… Dry brushed two colors [which made a nice rosy gold dual chrome look] and painted the flowers with acrylic paint over a sheer nude base, all topped with a matte top coat. Yeah…I’m not sure what I was thinking either…

I mean, it’s pretty cute in its own right after you stare at it for 20 minutes, haha.
