“You’re not worrying me. Mr. Greed is going to be fine.” Obito assures almost immediately. She’s going to be bright, optimistic. If not for herself then for Bido. But the very same anxieties that are eating at him are slowly beginning to weigh on her as well. The Devils Nest, the Chimera’s, and of course, Greed, had been the only thing she’d known or cared about for years now. Her family had been torn to pieces. Martel. Roa. Dolcetto. Gone. Gone. Gone. But hey. They of all people know how sturdy their boss is. Obito’s been constantly trying to remind Bido as much. She wraps her hand around one of his, smiles brightly, “Just think, he’ll probably be happy to see us. And if anyone can find him it’s us.”
Would he even want them is the question. What good are body guards who have lost the person they where supposed to defend with their lives?
“Hey, you’re right! Nobody knows Mister Greed better than us!”
Just those few comments of positivity were enough to send a tidal wave of relief upon him. That tidal wave did not cover every mountain of worry, but it covered more than enough for him to be thankful for. With space to breath he could finally start believing some of those better thoughts.
There were no words for how grateful he was to have her here with him. If he was alone right now, he didn’t know what he’d do. This world was a cruel place on its own, even without his oddities. The only place he’d ever felt at home was gone. Gone. Gone. But she was part of what used to be that home, and he still felt it there with her.
They’d continued their search well into the night as they had every day since. Sooner or later they would have to return to the tunnels for rest, but Bido was not certain he could handle yet another day with no victory. There had to be something. There had to be. He was Greed’s personal information gatherer and informant darnit! All of his fear and ill feelings were channeled into this renewed sense of hope. Maybe that made him braver. Maybe that made him stupid.
“I think we should go back,” he said finally after a long tentative silence. “To the Devil’s Nest, I mean. We haven’t been back there since…well…and I don’t think the military should still be guarding it. Greed might have left something there for us to follow and-and-he might even still be there! He might have went back!”
Energy poured out of him and he may as well have been bouncing up and down. He grabbed Obito’s arm and began tugging her. “C’mon! C’mon!”
