Do you have enough? . Welcome to the Lawyer Minute, I am Michael Glassford. . Let’s talk about Trusts. Why a Trust? Why don’t we all have a Trust? Well I think a lot of people, including myself until a few years ago, think that we just don’t have enough. . And so there is not enough assets to justify the cost, the time, all the things that go into a Trust. Well a Trust is a great asset protection tool but it’s also a great asset creation tool. . This is something that I learned immediately after creating my own trust. So if I have this water bottle here, and there’s a little bit of water in there, and I just pour the water out, where’s it going to go? It’s going to spill all over the floor, it’s going to be messy. Life is messy sometimes. This water represents wealth. . You know we are always generating money but we have no where for it to go. Once we create the vessel, the Trust, there’s somewhere for the wealth to go and we actually start creating it. . This has been another Lawyer Minute with Michael Glassford. Five years ago I met Jason Alexander in Orem. I was so excited to meet the man who was George! . This week, five years later, I get to meet Chris Brady. He’s on Inc Magazine’s top 50 most influential leaders. . It’s funny how perspective can change. At that time in my life, entertainment and laughing was important to me. I had spent hours enjoying George’s character and meeting Jason was so cool. . In the last few years, education has been my focus. I watch less TV and media and I read and listen to good information to improve myself. . I’ve spent so many hours listening to and learning from Chris Brady. He has blessed my business and my personal life with his words. . I can’t wait to hear him live in Orem. . When Chad told me that Jason was coming to eat at Chefs Table, I asked, “Can I come?” With all the excitement and anticipation in my question. . Chad paused and I prepared myself for disappointment. “It’s a free restaurant,” he said. “Anyone can reserve a table.” . “Oh,” I said. “I’m coming!” I changed my evening plans and made it happen. . If you are thinking, I’d like to come see who Michael is raving about, act on that feeling. Change your plans, bring your family if you need to, do whatever it takes to be there. . Many of you posted, asking about Christy and how she was able to cut back on her hours at her second job without sacrificing any of the things her kids were accustomed too. . And no, Kelan Steck, she didn’t marry the boss. . Christy was at work one night when she overheard a conversation some of her customers were having. It was just getting good when she was called away to help another customer. . She hurried to return but they were gone when she got back. The seed had been planted. She couldn’t get their conversation out of her head. She went home that night smiling with hope. . She talked it over with her best friend the next day at lunch. They daydreamed all the things they would do if they could duplicate what the customers were talking about. . Christy started dreaming again and making plans. . A couple of weeks went by when one of the customers returned. Christy’s heart pounded as she approached and cautiously asked about the conversation she had overhead. “Can you help me too?” . The result of that moment created a ripple effect. Christy now uses her lunch time to help other women come up with a plan so that they can spend more time at home too. Christy ran in the morning before the sun rose, dashed home to get her 3 children to school and then rushed out the door to work. . She briefly came home in the afternoon so she could pick up her twins, monitor the homework, and scarf down the dinner before heading out to her second job. . She was surviving, but she felt like she was missing out on everything that her children were doing because she wasn’t home. The days that she was there she was too exhausted to pay as much attention to them as she wanted. . She was burned out. And the worst part of it all was that she was doing everything she could to provide for her kids. But she felt guilty most of the time because she snapped at her kids and was impatient with them a lot of the time. . She dreaded getting up each morning and she was secretly terrified because she wasn’t sure how much longer she could continue this routine. She had thought she would get used to it, but instead of getting better, it seemed to be getting worse. . And that’s when Christy’s prayers were answered and she was thrown a lifeline. She was able to cut way back on her hours at her second job, she finally got to see her twins in a soccer game, and her oldest son started inviting friends over to the house because she was home most nights. A lot of folks don’t give themselves permission to dream at all, let alone dream big. . But I believe that everything starts with a big dream. That leads to a goal. That leads to work. And that leads to the fruition of your dream. . You can live your dream. Your dreams can be a reality. So why is an Attorney talking about this? Well as an Estate Planning Attorney, I set up Trusts, to help you live those dreams. A lot of folks think that Trusts are for something down the road; something in the future. . But they are also for now, right now. Because they create a shield around you. They help you feel safe and secure. What’s your back up plan if you can’t work? . Welcome to the Lawyer Minute, I am Michael Glassford. What kind of job do you have? Are you an employee, self-employed, a business owner, or an investor? . You know depending on what kind of job you have depends on how you are brining money home every day. Are you brining money home because you are trading time for money? Or have you built a residual income or a pipeline income that pays your regardless of what goes on from your day to day? . Depending on your answer, how prepare are you if something were to happen and you aren’t able to work for a week, two week, a month, or even longer? There are long term disability folks you can talk to but really the idea in this Lawyer Minute is to have a conversation with your spouse or your partner to make sure that you have a plan in place that in the event that something were to happen to you that you, that you are still going to be able to take care of your finances and bills. . Sarah didn’t know what to do. Life as she knew it was changing. . There was no doubt she was divorcing now. She felt like she had to hurry to get an attorney. . She posted a few ISO’s on Facebook and talked to the first attorneys that responded. She met with one. And her parents had to help her pay the large retainer. .
