He rolled his eyes, he knew the girl was popular and it was enough to rub him the wrong way. “I have to snag the answer key.”
“Why don’t you just sit next to a nerd then? Because I doubt they’re coming out anytime soon.”
Issues? That was something unexpected, but if anything the girl was probably right. Gwendolyn managed to embarrass herself quite often and so this wasn’t the first time someone has pointed that out. She learned that a long time ago when she was a little girl in elementary. Her eyes widen slightly, looking down at her paper before back at the other. “Oh, right. Silly me.” The girl says quietly before hunting through her bag, pulling out a pen for the girl to use. “Here you go and you can keep it if you need to.”
Grabbing the pen from the girl, she smiled a little. “Oh uh thanks..” She didn’t usually want to start up conversations with people outside her friend group, but she was feeling a little bad about the whole thing for once. “So are you new.. or have I just never noticed you before? I’m Bridgit.. if you didn’t know that yet.”

After freaking out and realizing she’d left her phone in her third period class, Mia had headed over immediately only to find the door locked. A voice caught her attention and she turned to face the girl who had spoken. She looked familiar but Mia was always so bad with names. “Oh, ew. A B+? Are you kidding?” She sighed, moving away from the door to lean against the wall. “Of course a nerd is losing their shit over a B+”
Realizing she was talking to a plastic, Bridgit got excited, internally of course. “Yeah. They really need to just chill out..” She knew who Mia was, but never actually talked to her. This was her chance to introduce herself, she smiled, “I’m Bridgit.”
Rafael double checked the room number, cursing himself for skipping so much and forgetting which rooms his classes were at his senior year. But he had to get in and grab the test answers before next period. He jiggled the lock before he looked at where the voice was coming from. “Fuck, so the dweeb and the teacher are still in there?? Great, fucking fantastic.” he spat as if it were her fault.
“Jeez, what’s your problem? You seem awfully upset you can’t get to math..”
Standing up against a locker, Bridgit saw someone attempt to go in a locked classroom, “I wouldn’t do that.. they had to lock it over a kid having a meltdown in there.. a nerd crying over a B+.”
“Oh how sad that must be.” He furrowed his eyebrows.
“I was joking, mostly, but really how’d you end up this way?”
After the game, Grace sat out by the bleachers and waited for her mother to pick her up. When she did, more than a few minutes ticked by and, checking the time on her phone, the girl had realized a half hour passed by already. A sigh left her lips as she tried to stay patient under the tedious wait. Her parents had already done this to her countless times already and yet, it was just as annoying as all of the previous ones. This was why she needed to get her license as soon as possible.
Realizing she had forgotten something after the game, Bridgit got dropped back off to get it, figuring she would just uber home after walking around town for a bit to shop after. She noticed Grace was still there so she approached her, “Hey!” When she reached her she asked, “What are you still doing here?”
“Do you live far?” Kalli asked out of curiosity. She could definitely sympathize with that; she had to travel to North Shore every morning from an entirely different city…. that struggle was real. It was hardly morning, and the other girl had all the confidence that Kalli lacked at this moment. Kalli was still getting used to this whole ‘group’ idea. “Kalli, Kalli Harris. I think I’ve seen you at lunch a couple times…?” the blonde tried. It was hard, because there were so many people and the faces often blended into each other… they were all so foreign to the girl.
“No. My dad just had to go in early today, didn’t bother finding a new ride.” Putting her phone aside, bluntly, Bridgit asked, “How did you end up with us?” She didn’t mean it rudely, she was just confused. “I just mean.. you lack confidence.. You never even try to talk at lunch.. You seem way too nice to try to become plastic one day.. unless it’s all a manipulation act, which good for you..” She stopped for a second, “I’m assuming you don’t even know the ropes.. the people.. the gossip. Like for starters I’m Bridgit. You should probably learn all the names if you want to fit in with us. You need some help. Maybe if you show potential, I can help you survive as a freshman. I guess I was in the same position as you last year, but I knew my stuff.”
“What do you think happened?!” He exclaimed as she took the tape of his mouth. “I got tied up!”
Bridgit rolled her eyes, “Yes. I know that.. But why?” She continued untying him, “You know.. you should be nicer to me.. I’m saving you. I might even break a nail.”
“Uh, thank you?” She hadn’t meant for it to come out as a question, but honestly it’s probably more accurate that way. “Well, because I could’ve done way better than the weather changing.”
Looking at the girl confused, “Uh.. okay.” Changing the subject she looked the girl over, “So are you new or have I never noticed you before because of the nerd thing?”
As soon as the girl opened her mouth, he no longer felt sorry for tripping her. Talk about a major bitch alert. “You’re a can of peaches,” he commented dryly, pulling his legs to himself. “Ask me nicely and maybe I might.” She just rankled his nerves in under thirty seconds– demanding things like that even though it’d clearly been an accident. “Because I feel like tripping everyone,” he told her sarcastically, refusing to answer the question.
Actually somewhat relieved, but somewhat pissed, Bridgit was surprised someone in the school actually knew how to give back the attitude she gave out. She rolled her eyes, “Wow I love doing that too!” She sat down next to him, “I guess I was a little harsh.. I was more talking about the giant bruise on your face. Get punched?”
“Obviously not a monster but you do some pretty damn good revenge.”
She shrugged and smiled, “What can I say, I’m petty.”
“So what’s your name? Don’t think we’ve ever talked before..”
“I’m kind of, uh, already the nerd.”
“Oh. How tragic. Such a pretty girl..” she shrugged. “If you’re a nerd why are you complaining about homework?
“Holy shit, you did that?” Warren laughed.
“Yeah, he’s really been pissing me off lately. I paid someone to put snakes in his desk. They’re not poisonous obviously.. I’m not a monster.”
"You know my name?” The girl was evidently confused by the whole situation. Gwendolyn has always been hidden in the waves of people in the hallways and was seen mostly with her face glued down to the desk. She didn’t expect anyone to know who she was and so she gives them a small smile before laughing softly. “It’s just– I’m sorry, this is all too new for me. Nobody really knows who I am in less I’m the first one to speak up. Which usually never happens.”
Bridgit looked at the girl, wondering how sad her life must be, wondering if she should just go with it to make her happy, but decided it wasn’t worth it. Plus she was having a bad day, so she wasn’t going to be nice for no reason. “Uh.. Actually your name is on your paper.. and I was going to ask to borrow a pen. But that’s okay. You have some issues to work out.”
Kalli took a couple breaths to calm herself, clearing her throat and sitting more upright. She hadn’t realized how mindless she had been until the brunette snapped her back to reality. “I interact with a lot of people…. I’m just usually paying attention when I interact with them, too,” Kalli defended quietly, knowing that it was most likely useless. The blonde moved her stuff that was sprawled across the table to make room for the other girl. “What are you up to…?” she asked curiously, figuring it was a good start and finding out why she was actually here.
Bridgit nodded warily, somewhat wondering if this was a bad idea, “Well.. it’s school. Had to come early because of my ride issues this morning.” Taking out her phone she scrolled through instagram a bit, looking up she realized the girl was still there. She sighed, almost not actually being too involved, “Sorry. What’s your name again? I heard you joined our group, but can’t remember the name.. Not usually too good with those at first.”
