Halloween 2042

Today has been a disaster. A complete and utter nightmare. It started with spilling hot tea all over her copy of Star Lore and down the front of her favorite skirt, which forced Ori to settle for the little black number Cassie bought her as a Halloween costume. It’s supposed to be a cat but it’s really a dress accompanied by cat ears. It’s not that it’s awful, it’s not her usual taste. It’s a simple spaghetti strap dress, sweetheart necklace that doesn’t dip too low and cut just above her knee. As far as Halloween costumes go it’s fairly modest but it’s a little tight compared to the rest of Ori’s closet.

Mother’s day 2047

It was the first Mother’s Day in, God, Y/n can’t remember how long it’s been, twenty-five years? Yeah, that sounds about right. The first Mother’s day in twenty-five years that she’s had to spend alone. Of course, the last time she spent this day alone, she didn’t have three beautiful children and a loving husband. It was merely another day amongst the rest that had seemed to blend together. Then she met Orion and Bucky. Suddenly, it was no longer ‘just another day’ and it became one of her most favorite days of the year. Still is, despite waking up to an empty house this morning.

Bucky hadn’t wanted to leave her home alone this morning. He tried everything he could to get out of work, but he couldn’t find anyone to cover his shift. On top of working the entire day leading up, they needed Bucky to fill in for someone else for half the day, and her kids?

Well, they are all grown up and have lives of their own.

Raspberry, right?

Summary: Beck makes some cookies that don’t turn out right, but Bucky does everything he can to not hurt his fiance’s feelings.

A/N: So I made these raspberry jam cookies this morning for the first time, and they came out awful. Seriously they look terrible, and I showed them to @moonbeambucky​, and she insisted I make an Astrophile drabble about it. So here it is. lol, It’s seriously nothing. Just Bucky being a sweet fiance and trying his best not to hurt his girl’s feelings. Also, Sam’s comment is thanks to husband. This would be Christmas 2021.

“They look like blood clots.” 

Bucky stares at the round pale white cookies covered in a glob of swirling red and white cream. They did look like a blood clot. They looked… not great. He was not going to tell his fiance that. He was absolutely not going to tell her that. 

“Nah, Beck. They look…” 

He rubs the back of his neck as he stares at them, trying to find the right words that will not hurt her feelings. It’s Christmas Eve, after all. He’s not going to make his very pregnant fiance cry on Christmas Eve.

 “They, um, they look like… is it raspberry?”

The transition from friends to something more is easier, in theory, it turns out. It is hard to decipher what had been flirting and what was just friendly banter between two friends — more importantly, what was them being them, Y/n and Bucky.

Natasha doesn’t quite understand what the problem is. When Y/n asked her for advice earlier in the week, seeing as how she went through something similar with Clint, Natasha told Y/n she didn’t see what the big deal is. You two have flirted from the moment you met. He’s always looked at you like you hung all the stars, and it’s quite nauseating. Add a little kissing, and you’ll be fine.

He never said anything but, Y/n knows Bucky is nervous, too.

Bucky leans forward in the back of the truck, adjusting his boots. His feet are killing him, and he just wants to be off this damn job. The love he has for his career and his brother runs deep, but he’s so ready to get home and see his wife. That is something he never thought he would say. He’s always loved work more than most things in his life, but here he is desperate to get back to the station so he can see his girl. He settles in next to Steve and continues to hum the same tune he has been humming for the last several turns. He pulls his hair into a tight bun at the base of his neck and continues humming. In just under eight hours, his shift will be over, and he will be holding his sweet Beck.

The tune repeats once more from the start, and the moment it finishes, Bucky glances at the men around him. 

“Okay, what’s it from?”

Wednesday is Y/n’s longest day and lately, she is having trouble making it till closing. Thankfully, she has two very loving worrywarts who decided that Wednesdays would be a family day at the bookstore. Bucky picks up Ori from school and from there they head to the bookstore where they order takeout and the two worriers help take some of the workload off her shoulders. They handled restocking the shelves, inventory if needed and Bucky usually had her in the back office on the couch by seven while he cleaned up and closed down.

It was currently just shy of five so they should be barreling through the door any minute and couldn’t come at a better time. They weren’t busy by any means, just one customer that’s been browsing the shelves for thirty minutes but her feet are killing her and she wants nothing more than to her two favorite people.

This has been the longest day Bucky has had in years. He can’t remember the last time he felt this tired and worn down. It doesn’t help that his girls are still at the peak of their sugar rush after eating two bags of caramel corn and candy corn. He wishes he could be as excited as they are– No, wait, he doesn’t. No one wants to be that excited about anything.

Their excitement knows no bounds, and it only doubles when they are bouncing around together. Okay, yeah, he finds it cute. Exhausting and cute.

In all fairness to the sugar rush duo, the pumpkin patch had been his idea. Bucky brought it up to his girls three or four weeks ago, mentioning it might be fun to get everyone together and visit a pumpkin patch.  A big outing with the whole family. Steve, Sam and Ollie, Nat and Clint, and Barneses – seeing as it’s Oliver’s first Halloween with the family they should make a big deal and celebrate!

The city was lazy this morning. The morning, for most, was spent sleeping in, recovering from the holiday rush and preparing for whatever end of the year festivities the night held. This year was a little more hectic than Bucky, and Y/n were used to. As if Orion’s Christmas performance, having twenty-month old twins and the hustle of the holidays wasn’t enough, they decided to throw a wedding into the mix. 

No one tells you that even the smallest of weddings can be completely and utterly overwhelming. Thankfully, they have an amazing family to help when things fall apart and Y/n? Well, she has Bucky to hold her hand when the spinning gets to be too much.

The light rumble and hum sent an unexpected shiver through her. There is a soft hint of lilac surrounding them because last week she switched detergents. No more summer breeze notes soaking their sheets. Just a sweet flowery scent that lingers on the skin when they wake in the morning. Soon she would switch to something that reminds her of fall – maybe apples and cinnamon or one of those strange scents labeled ‘crisp fall morning,’ not that any fall morning has ever smelled like whatever they put in those jugs.

The morning went by fast. Faster than Y/n expected it to. Maybe it’s just that Y/n isn’t used to all this hustle on Thanksgiving. It’s been a long time since she had a Thanksgiving to celebrate with anyone. After her grandparents passed, she stopped cooking as much on the holidays and usually kept the shop open to pass the day. There isn’t much of a point in making some grand meal when it’s only her. 

She does get pie though because it’s pie. 

This year is nothing like she’s used to. It started in Bucky’s bed, which isn’t anything new as of late, of course. She has a feeling it will become a permanent move here soon. For now, she’s okay bringing a bag over to spend a few days at a time. This morning though started with lazy kisses and slow touches. Quiet confessions of love, wanton whispers and soft panting that could only be heard by them.

July 2021 – One year later

“It’s right, Buck. She’s the one. We’ve all known it since she came to family dinner that first night. Everyone was just waiting for you to catch up.”

 Bucky holds his hand up to the bartender, silently asking for another beer and a glass of water for Y/n as Steve continues right on pestering him. Right here in the middle of their friend’s wedding reception. Maybe it’s attending a wedding that makes people lose their minds? This is the first proper wedding Bucky has been to, and it didn’t take long for him to realize it makes the wedding party and the guests a tiny bit nuts.

“Drop it, Steve.” Bucky drops a few bills into the glass tip jar resting on the bartop – anything to avoid having this conversation with Steve for the twentieth time this month. Steve looks down at him; mouth pressed in a thin line and disappointment pouring off of him.

Astrophile [Pt.17]

Summary: Happily ever after happens when you least expect it.

A/N:   Okay, I had no intentions of leaving everyone hanging so long but I got so sick. I am still coming out of it but I finally had enough energy to get this out. Smoke was all Bucky could see. He could feel the flames burning his skin and piles of ash tarnishing every good thing in his life. Consuming all Bucky cares about, taking… everything and leaving him nothing but the empty shell of a man. Because that’s what he would be without them, empty and broken. Thick, grey smoke cutting through golden orange flares that are choking the life out of every dream Bucky has for the future. Dark clouds of smoke billowing out of the windows of the bookstore. Blazes burning through the dark blue painted wood Bucky spent an afternoon fixing – charing and splintering it until there is nothing left he can recognize.

Pizza was Y/n’s pick for dinner. Mostly because it was rather late by the time they made their way towards a place that served food, thankfully they live in New York though and can get pizza nearly any time of the day or night. Within reason, there was an unfortunate incident when Steve and Bucky were in college, and it turns out six in the morning is pretty hard to find a pizza place that will deliver. Tonight though Bucky wouldn’t have cared what they ate or what they did, she could have offered to make macaroni and cheese back at her apartment and, not the good kind either – the old school blue box with the powdered cheese and, he would have taken those stairs two at a time if it meant he got to spend a few hours alone with Y/n.

All he’s wanted for weeks now is to have her to himself for just a little while. Selfish? Might be, but Bucky doesn’t spend a lot of time being selfish these days. The last time he did anything remotely selfish he ended up with a late-night phone call from a panicked one night stand letting him know he was about to be a dad and, hey, that time it all worked okay – scratch that, it worked out better than okay. It was amazing. Ori is the best part of his life, and maybe she came from a self-indulgent moment, but she is one of the few good things in his life.

There was a clumsy, inelegance to the tightness floating in the afternoon air now that they were alone without a five-year-old bumper to spare them from humiliation. Strangers on the subway have looked more comfortable than they do at this moment. The side glances, nervous fidgeting, and tension turned Bucky’s smile into a deep pout. A bystander catching sight of this floundering rendezvous would be unable to watch for long, they would find themselves turning their head to hide from second-hand embarrassment. 

He couldn’t blame them if they did. This isn’t how he saw this reunion going.

Y/n has been in a funk since that day. 

That terrible, awful day she never wants to speak about. The day she realized Bucky really is only her friend and all the handholding at the zoo was merely friendly, and the flirting was only playful banter she mistakenly took for flirty teasing. She’s aware how laughable the thought of forgetting the entire day is and just how foolish it was for her to think they were anything other than friends.  It’s not as if he has changed the way he has treated her; his actions towards her have stayed the same since they met. Maybe he’s a little more comfortable and a bit more sure of himself around her, but nothing has changed between them. 

In the three months, two week and five days they have known each other, nothing has changed to make her think that his heart was longing for hers the way her heart wanted to belong to him.

Bucky hasn’t woken up late after spending all night on the phone with a girl since he was in high school but here he is, rushing around because he slept through his alarm after staying up till three in the morning talking to Y/n. She’s good at doing that to him, making him forget everything but her and Ori. Every time he’s around her his brain goes foggy and it’s getting harder and harder to remember a time before her. Bucky grins to himself thinking about her sleepy voice early this morning as he cuts Ori’s peanut butter and jelly into a star.

“Y/n, we should probably hang up. You’re drifting off, babydoll.” 

“I d-don’t need sleep. I’m fine. Did I tell you that Cassiopeia is my favorite constellation?” her voice slurred from sleep that’s calling her, her eyes closed and barely able to hold her phone up. 

Bucky chuckled as he watched her breathing start to even out through the small screen on his phone, “Yeah, you did. Go to bed, Beck. I’ll call you after my shift.” 

“Pinky promise?” She whispered, eyes remained closed but she was smiling.

“Pinky promise, sweetheart.”
