From the day she was born Jade was a nobody, another Jane Doe that was left at the fire station in a basket with a note saying that they hoped that she went to a good home. While the firefighters waited for the social worker to come get her one affectionally called her Jade because of her eyes, from that moment forward it stuck— Jane Doe became Jade. While she had a name, it was all she would have for a long time.
For years Jade bounced from place to place with families only keeping her for a few months at a time. She wasn’t social enough, she was too social, she was too hype, too mean, too unwilling to play with others, and etc etc until the list was as long as a short novel. While she desperately wanted to fit in with any family that adopted her Jade never truly was able to. Instead she just ended up being returned and put back into the system once more. She spent her nights dreaming that one day her family would show up and take her away; but over time she realized those dreams were just that— dreams.
The once desperate attitude she had faded, it turned into one that was bitter and unwelcoming because if they didn’t want her, then Jade refused to want them; to ever get her hopes up again. So instead she started to sabotage the parental visits before they could even take her home, it worked. She finished out school with straight A’s and year early, she was released from the system on her eighteenth birthday. While she’d always looked at that way with hope, when it came all it brought was sadness and a cupcake with one candle.
The world she knew was gone, now she could make her life anything she wanted. She could control how much people got to be in her life, what place would be her home. With the little money she had Jade bought a bus ticket east, went as far as she could. Which was Ohio, but it was a start, for the next year she worked bartending jobs and any open waitress job she could find. Limiting all of her time to sleep or work; after all this was only a pitstop on her way to finding her home. Landing in New York with the money she’d earned, she spent six long months trying to fit in before she picked up and started traveling down the New England states. While things were good nothing felt right and she left each state after a few months. Knowing that there wasn’t anything in California or the east coast Jade decided it was time to see the world. Maybe along the way she’d find home, or at least be able to see more than just the states.
That’s exactly what she did, she saw more than she could ever dream. Backpacking across Europe and India; she spent the night in different hostels or cheap hotels— she worked along the way for money. Exploring each city to it’s fullest, she didn’t care how long it took, because at the end of the day this was just apart of her journey. Eventually she started to capture her moments along the way, slowly but surely her instagram turned into one that was full of wanderlust, with that came the followers. Using instagram to her advantage, she slowly but surely started to make a little money off of it and sponsorships.
Unfortunately though traveling start to lose it’s wonder and became more exhausting trying to keep up with a thriving insta and where she was being requested next. So she put her instagram on pause, went to London where she had a few friends currently living. Figuring that if she was going to stay anywhere it might as well be with people she knew, so a plane ride later, she was walking by Big Ben. Even though she needed a break from her fake fabulous life it didn’t stop her from knowing she was good at this, she took a job working for Felix at his tattoo shop— which included duties involving the shops media to making sure that Felix has everything he needs. While the pace has slowed Jade can’t help but feel that maybe she’s on the right track to finding home.
