Lesson 4: Formats
These are templates that provide the provisional structures of media and information texts. We see only formats in the documents but it can be also seen in the kind of content that people would be attracted:
Panel Shows, Demonstration programs, games shows, the transmissions, sports, documentaries, news, drama, music/variety program, and public service bulletins.
Lesson 3: Genre
In our society today we consider things that all are classified to where they belong to and that is what we call Genre. It tends to be understood to constitute particular conventions of content and following a distinctive style in terms of form and presentations. There are five primary genres that we consider in broad strokes: news, information, education, entertainment and advertisements. News are stories that have critical importance to the community and national life for example TV Patrol, 24 Oras, Aksyon TV and etc. Advertisements are messages that are created to promote a product. We usually see these advertisements after an episode in the channel and sometimes in the websites that will eventually pop up to the screen. Entertainment is a form of genre that grabs the audience’s attention to present something that will make them comfortably entertained. One of the examples that we can classify as an entertainments are games shows, telenovelas and etc. Information genre is all about the raw material that circulates around us and from where new as another genre is generated. Specific examples are Matanglawin, National Geographic Channel, and Discovery Channel.
Lesson 2: Codes and Conventions
In our daily living, we take symbolic action every now and then. Our interaction with others are about using symbols to express our feelings; we wave our hands to say goodbye, shake our heads to express disapproval, or clapping our hands to express delight or gratitude. We engaged with the thought that media messages are constructed. We further added in the idea that these are codes and conventions that undergird this constructedness. It is in fact more complex and elaborated concepts that is because they are tied to the concept of genre.
Chapter 2, Lesson 1: Constructedness
We humans have the capacity to do a process called construction of media and information messages. The media employ more than words to construct a more complex reality of society. What do we mean by this? The media is trying to do something which is beyond words that can make the people understand the reality of our society and that are many ways to do it. Film and broadcast communication uses the language of the camera, tools and techniques of editing, the power of words as dialogue and narration to capture the world of a story. This is important because we have to know how to develop elements making it more appealing to its audiences. Constructions create representations. It is the construction in any media of certain aspects of reality but we must look at representation as “re-presentation” a way of presenting reality again through media.
Lesson 6: Media and Information literature education
I realized that being a media and information literate is a big advantage because as we can feel it all around us that media and information are all around us and one of the advantages is that we can possess some control over the media and information messages that we have initially described as powerful. We may be able to examine, criticize the context of media and information messages clearly and we will be able to contemplate whether their messages are significant in our lives. Being media and information literate is somehow expected to know what are the proper behavior with the regards of the use of internet. One of the laws that was passed was the Magna Carta for Philippines. There are many elements here in the Magna Carta: Free expression, unversal access, innovation, right to privacy, intellectual property and etc.
Lesson 5: Media and Information literature as citizen engagement
Everyone must be literate. When we say literate it means to be able to read and write. Why do we need to be literate? For us to understand things and it is a requirement of a grade school student. It is a lifelong learning. Media literature us an instrument for empowerment of the human development of a person. To be able to develop yourself reading and writing skills, it can really help each and everyone of us. Media literature education is all about to cultivate power inside you. Another is information literacy. We as students, our academic lives are fairly circumscribed by the amount of knowledge that we are able to gain and produce. We gain information and we use our talents being literate to produce information to other people so that they too will also learn. For that we would be able to recognize when into is needed and how to locate, evaluate and use it effectively.

Lesson 4: How it can affect the society?
The media is seen as a powerful agent in establishing social control in societies characterized by the dominance of industries, growing urban centers, alienation of citizens from their social institutions, and lack of strong citizens organizations. Media has taken the society to a whole new level because of the many things that makes communication more easy just like the social media.
Lesson 3: It is better to do it by mass communication than to do it by interpersonal mediated communication. Our conversation to other people depends on our message. If it is really meant for a huge crowd, you must address it by mass communication but if it is only for 2-3 persons only it can be interpersonal communication but based on my experience, when we want to talk to someone it is better to do it personally not by mediated.

Lesson 2: In this lesson, I learned many things because it talks about the history of how communication was done by the early ages and from time to time it is passed to different generations and they create something new which would help them easily to understand one another and speaking of something new, in the Philippines, the first book printer was Doctrina Cristiana. Communication is not just focused on talking but it can be also through images and from time to time everything was improved from static to moving images. Internet was also developed to make communication easier than ever.
Lesson 1: I learned in this lesson that without a message, there is no communication but having a communication still has elements which are source, encoding, transmitting, channels, decoding, receiver, feedback, and noise interference and there is one thing which I was shocked and that is noise interference. I realized that noise is still part of the elements which is also considered in our subject, oral communication as barriers in communication.
