GOD BLESS AMERICA. AND HE NAMED EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN COUNTRY
When they announced that Daredevil would be back but not Élodie Yung’s Elektra, I was so sad.
Now after seeing that horrible first episode, I’m really glad she’s not and hoping she’ll never be. Don’t you dare touch my love, Disney.
Also, what’s with the weird CGI-glossy fight scene between DD and Bullseye? Felt cheap and unrealistic and so far from the original’s quality.
(Also, take back that shitass opening title and give us the original for Christ’s sake).
The way morality works in SaB is truly baffling like the whole moral compass basically just revolves around "with or against the Darkling". Doesn't matter if you're fighting for a r*pist and incompetent king. Doesn't matter if you're fighting to uphold a corrupt system. Doesn't matter if you ally with a religious fanatic who's actively working to radicalize a whole nation and creating cults full of young people in your name. Doesn't matter if you're a bunch of human traffickers who break into an already persecuted community's safe haven & kill the people trying to defend it because you want to kidnap and sell one of them to a random general. Doesn't matter if you never hang the king for rape and the queen for throwing genya to her husband knowing his intentions very well and instead exile them to "somewhere warm where they'll have every luxury". Doesn't matter if your actions eventually doom more grisha than save. As long as you are fighting that evil guy with scary looking shadows you are good! You are a hero! A saint worthy of worship!! Self-reflection what is that? Actually thinking about how and what one's actions are contributing to when you are in the position of power? LOL why would we need that in a story that's supposed to teach people a "moral lesson".
Darkling is made into this very tropey moustache twirling villain but the "heroes" aren't...exactly...heroic yk? Like if you want me to root for your good guys then at least let them do some good. Show us their motivations and how they want to change their very messed up world in ways that are better than the darkling's. Instead the whole series is just them fighting against the evil guy and destroying the fold as if fold's disappearance will solve all the problems of their world.
👏🙌THIS.
To me, the Darkling’s lack of humanity and overall disregard towards any sort of life (Grisha or Otkazat’sya) made him a « villain » indeed but never his intentions/motivations.
I think he’s a character too far gone into immortality to form a plan that values people’s life (like enslaving Alina through the stag, GENYA (goddam bastard)) but his intentions where fundamentally right. And if the story would’ve gone into a more organic and realistic way than Bardugo’s all black and white, I think Alina and DL would’ve eventually balanced each other out. After some fighting and argument and deception sure, but still. Alina would’ve never turned Alexsander into a softy but I believe she had the potential to fully confront him to his loneliness and force out his humanity.
More to prove that Darklina fans recognizes DL for what he is, aka a very complex character that makes for very complex villain. That doesn’t make him inherently evil tho.
favorite darklina moments?

Aka all the scenes we were robbed of
I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t actually need Aleksander Morozova to become an “good” guy because of Alina. Morally grey at best or willing to consider the consequences of his actions more, that’s the best we can get from Aleksander because:
1. He’s at least 500 years old. Try changing a regular human older person, tell me how that works out for you. I sure as hell haven’t succeeded with my 64 year old dad.
2. He doesn’t need to. Yes he got more ruthless over the years because all of his pain and suffering made him jaded AF. But he managed to maintain his love for his people, his need to protect them no matter what, the ability to be a tough but fair leader to his people, his love for Ravka, and the ability to fall in love so deeply. He may have gotten ruthless over the years, but it was a ruthless that came from being in survival mode for centuries. That’s something Alina could have controlled because she’s literally the only one that can.
3. Alina is super morally grey and does not need a pure guy as a love interest. She’s an incredibly powerful immortal, what she needs is an equal. Because she’s still growing into her power and immortality and will definitely make a mistake at some point, Alina needed a partner that was just as powerful, and honestly more experienced. Someone who understands her exact unique situation, someone who won’t shame her for changing, someone who can recognize the dark parts of her and won’t judge her for them, someone who won’t make her feel like her power is an evil thing. Someone who actually wants her to discover the full extent of her power and learn to control it. Someone who can challenge her. My Sun Queen deserved a powerful, hot, judgement free partner that would literally worship the ground she walked on, but LB said no.
Alina and Aleksander don’t actually need to completely change who they are to be together, they just need to do what we all do when we’re in relationships, figure shit out together. And I can’t think of two people more destined to be together, than these two people who perfectly compliment/complete each other.
Forever salty that we got to see Alina’s Cut only once. Specially since they actually made it look epic.
“Once more,” he said. “Speak my name once more.” He was ancient, I knew that. But in this moment he was just a boy – brilliant, blessed with too much power, burdened by eternity. -pg. 384 from Grisha trilogy by @lbardugo
see it at your own risk guys… if you haven’t read the books its a huge spoiler (sorry)
i had to paint this scene, i loved it so much, i hope you guys will like it and wont kill me for it hehe
What it should’ve been like in the show 😭
What really pisses me off now is that Darklina stans will get even more comments about “being into abusive relationship and toxicity wtv”. Because that’s indeed what Darklina was reduced to in the show.
We didn’t get ANY Darklina scenes from the books. None. Sure we got some classic quote but they were a travesty of what they really were in the books.
The chapel scene? Nop. The “Let me, it isn’t real?” LOL NOP. The “no one knew his name to curse or extol, so I spoke it softly, beneath my breath”?!?! NOOOP. I guess we should’ve seen it coming with them ruining their best scenes with the horrible “Call me Alexsander” of S1.
Darklina S2 has no tension and I’m sorry but Ben Barnes or not, the Darkling in the show is not the Darkling, he’s a pitiful creature pining over a girl with no other agenda. He seemed so weak to me while he’s supposed to be this all Powerful Being for Saints sake. Darklina’s relationship in the books was filled with tension, with an understanding, even if reluctantly from Alina. It was conflictual but felt right at the same time. I saw none of that in the show. And if I hadn’t read the books, I would’ve never been a Darklina fan after that horrible season. They really went for the “Darkling bad bad Alina good good” (except for the end but that makes even less sense).
… (also can we talk about that whole scene with the Darkling in Mal’s dream? That was so ridiculous. He can’t visit Alina anymore but Mal yes? Wtf😅)
Yeeeeeah! I agreee so much. I would have never been a Darklina fan if it had been like that in the books. A Darkling was a psycho with obsession xd Alina wanted to destroy the bastard. Chapel scene, let me scene, how could they... the whole thether thing was distorted... The whooole complexity of their relationship, ambigious feelings, love, hatred, desire, longing, solitude, there were no other like us and never will be - Alina also knew that.
Yeah I couldn’t have believed they would’ve managed to make an ending even worse than in the books but they actually did haha
Alina and Mal’s love story was pointless because “now that I’m not an amplifier anymore I don’t love you”, all of the Crows storyline is messed up (am I the only one who’s upset about Jesper and Wylan fan service? Where’s the slow burn we had to endure for two damn books?!?!), David’s dead waaaay too early, Zoyalai is far from being a thing and Alina is definitely going on a power trip (ding ding rings any bells? Not like the Darkling didn’t told you so). And also if the whole plan was for Alina to keep her powers (which I’m all for usually), then why not keep the angst and tension btw her and DL because he would be the only one for her in the end? As in the only one alive? (Nevermind that whole cough dying thing, that’s a show’s invention).
If the show runners wanted to change the whole plot of S&B only so they could keep the crows, why not adapt Six of Crows directly then?! Cause now they ruined both stories in my book.
Anyway I’m pissed 🙄
Aditionally, they kind of softened the Darkling in the season 1 provided his backround story just to... make him a total psycho in season 2 (cutting his mother finger off 🤮 choking Alina 😧 for God’s sake...) Let’s take it to the extremes! No ambiguity! And let’s make Alina an enraged saviour of Ravka who kills him without any remorse ”I am not like you” yeah babe and you just killed him in cold blood. No mercy, no single tear. I really didn’t like the ending in the books and I wanted Alina to be powerful but that death scene was respectful, sad and epic I hated it sooo much and I cried but I thought: chapeu bas mrs Bardugo, I didn’t want any of that happened but his death scene 👏 was a masterpiece. What is more, I liked torned Alina who also felt greed solitude and KNEW the risk - in the show no doubts, no fears about her own greed and her own righetoeusness paradoxically made her cross the line. Alina was truly on the bright side because of her COMPASSION and SELF-REFLECTION ”and who would be my balance?” She hated him, loved him and sympathised with him ”in this moment he was just a boy - brilliant, blessed with too much power, burdened by eternity.
Tether part - what the heck? They ruined the whole concept of that. Everybody knows, Mal&Darkling tether 🤯 Darkling’s hand cut off whaat?
Cough dying thing - he was eternal for God’s sake!!!! He had Nichevo'yas EVEN after his ressurection and he WAS ABLE to command them! He was exhausted when he used merzost yeah but that was it. No cancer type dying thing. Ughh
Yeah I have to post my review. Then my hidden on my fanfic. My katharsis.
Then my own novel with a good complex villain character. No nonsense. There are no bad immoral characters, just badly-written 🖤
I personnaly wasn’t a fan of the softening the Darkling move but boyyyyy was I a fool to think it couldn’t get worse 🥲
And yeah you perfectly summed it up, there was no respect from Show!Alina for the Darkling and for his death. Which I hate but also love in the books and it’s one of my favourite Darklina scene, as bitter as it might be. I still can’t believe how robbed we were. And Show!Alina is so one dimensional, she has indeed no conflict or doubts. She never made me feel that crushing loneliness she feels in the books.
As much as I HATED for her to loose her powers in the books, the show’s ending doesn’t make sense either because now she’s truly alone and everything DL warned her about will become true so in the end… the whole “bad guy is bad bad must kill only bad” is pointless and it gives Alina a very bad look (stupid naive and self-righteous which is not her). I guess they are going for KoS but I don’t see myself watching that after the idiotic mess that was season 2. There wasn’t even the “it gets dark when I say it does” for saints sake. We got ROBBED.
If you come upon any good fanfic I’m all ears, I know I’ll definitely go back to read my favorites. And please give me the good complex villaaaaaain
Can’t believe we got a Shadow And Bone show without even one Darklina scene straight out of the books.
Absolutely. Not. One.
Those will only exist in our heads now even after a 16 hours show.

After years of reading fanfic, here’s mine! Only Darklina could scream in my head that much for me to get it out in writing.
A what if shorty of Alina’s thoughts process after Baghra’s revelations and the conversation that would’ve followed with the Darkling had Alina chose to go back.

Katniss’ children fulfill her character arc
On the morning of the reaping ceremony, while Katniss and Gale discuss running away, Katniss states that “[she] never want[s] to have kids” (The Hunger Games, p. 9). While this sentence is popularly interpreted as Katniss never wants to have kids [full stop], the interpretation itself ignores that Katniss’s reasoning behind this sentence is caused by her fears: namely, the lack of safety and security in her own life caused by the poverty of her circumstance; and The Hunger Games, a gladiator-style pageant that turns the innocent into killers.
