“The Web of Life and Destiny, yes.” Annie nods. “It represents the Multiverse. It’s like a model that exists in a five dimensional place. I get that it’s confusing. The nexus is in Earth-001, and the Master Weaver watches it. I’m the Patternmaker. It’s my job to repair the web. It’s how I accidentally released Shathra and got Spider-man and Spider-woman erased from reality recently.” Whoops.

“Who the hell is Spider Zero?” Stephen eyed the girl in front of him, clearly one of the many Spiders running around town as of late, but he couldn’t place her costume.
“Spider-Zero. She’s the Master Weaver.” Annie explains. “Her reality was destroyed by an Incursion, and she stays at the Web now. You know about the Web, right? If not, I’m a great person to ask. I’m the Patternmaker.” She’s pretty proud of that.

Marc didn’t divulge anymore on what he was referencing. She’d figure it out from someone else. Instead, he focused on her next statement. “Does this someone have a name?”
“Peter Parker? His name is Peter Parker. He’s, um, a family friend.”

“I haven’t had a great idea about what’s goin’ on for a while now, and don’t really want a lesson on spider-people. Anything else worth talkin’ about?”
“Oh, okay.” Annie may have deflated just a tiny bit from that. “The weather is nice? It’s been rainy back home.” Back home in a different reality, that is.

“There’s a guy called Devil-Spider. Is that close enough?”

“I think I’d prefer to talk about the spider heroes, if that’s alright.” The last thing Matt wanted to worry about right now were the mounting cases he was taking on in the aftermath of Pleasant Hill. Or worse, Elektra.
“Yeah, yeah. Of course. What in particular do you want to know?”

“I’m not sure if there’s much you have for me there that I don’t already know. But I can totally catch you up. I can’t promise it’ll be as fun of a conversation, though.”
“Duh, it’s you. Sorry, Miles.” Annie pauses. “That bad? I mean, I should probably know so I can report back to mom and dad. They’re not traveling right now.”

“Spiderling! I’m Spiderling. You probably know my dad: Spider-man.” She’s not bragging. “I’m not really from here.”

“No, I’m not talkin’ about that.” The last word was so pronounced with his accent that he may as well have said it with a ‘d’. And by that, Marc meant Pleasant Hill. Thankfully he’d avoided the mandatory evaluations thus far, and it would stay that way. There was no way in hell he was sitting in front of a therapist. “Anything else on your mind? Literally anything else.”
“I’m sorry, but I kinda don’t know what that is.” She’s clearly missed something big. If there’s ever been a time to traverse the multiverse it seems that this isn’t it. “My mind? I’m looking for someone. That’s what’s on my mind.”

“There is effort involved in seeing possible futures. It requires concentration. If you assumed that it comes easily or freely, that’s your own fault.”
Annie can’t see into the future. She can see into the Web and charts its patterns, but that’s different. If there’s one thing she gets though, it’s effort. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to assume anything. I didn’t even know you could see the future. That sounds intense. How do you stop from going, y’know, off your rocker?”

“You smell foul. Is that so that predators will think you are dying and diseased so they won’t eat you. That is very wise.”
“Ouch. That actually kinda hurts? I didn’t expect it to. You’re not very nice.”

“Hill’s been taken care of.” When Daisy realized how final that sounded, she raised her eyebrows and quickly backtracked. “She’s not dead, though. Just on a mandatory medical leave.”
“Can I ask what she did? Sorry, you’re talking like it’s obvious but I’m way late to the game.”

An orange portal leading to the Sanctum dissipated behind Stephen as he turned around and faced the person in front of him. “This better be important. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but reality is still falling apart.” The bags that had plagued his eyes for the past few months were gone now, which was an improvement, but things were far from fine.
“I was hoping it would be better here.” One hand rises to adjust the red mask that conceals Annie’s eyes. “The Web’s been super messy recently and Spider-Zero said that — well, I’m getting ahead of myself, aren’t I?”
