• Feeling the dew soaking through your sneakers down to your socks as you cross the yard, goosebumps lift along your arms, and pull the light throw you’d grabbed closer around your shoulders as you slowly approach the big, black truck like a skittish wild animal. Mostly not wanting to wake him if he’s recharging and when he’s in his altmode, you can’t tell. Standing there holding your breath you wait for him to stir, shift on his shocks, acknowledge you. And disappointment settles inside you when he doesn’t.

• “Come here,” he growls when you rock on your feet and turn to walk away, your little face so expressive that your disappointment is obvious. Throwing open the passenger side door, he leans slightly on his shocks to let you climb in and shudders at the feel of your wet feet on his mats. “Why aren’t you asleep, sweetspark?” Watches you toeing your shoes off to pull your legs up against yourself and he eases the seat back so you can curl up inside him.

• Embarrassed to admit you’d had a nightmare and needed him, you shrug and he rumbles around you. But how do you explain that the big alien is your safety blanket? That you need his warmth and the steady, hushed rumble of his internal systems around you right now? Don’t want him to laugh at you for being childish. Not when he already treats you like a kid sometimes to your utter frustration. You like him, might even have a crush on the huge, bot hiding out at your house and watching over you. “Maybe I just wanted to hang out with you.”

• You’re a spot of warmth inside him, can hear you breathing, feel your heart beating. It’s still weird having you inside his cab, painfully aware of you right there tucked inside him. He’s getting used to having someone, well, you, in his passenger seat. Isn’t interested in having organics riding in his altmode, but you’re the exception. Likes having you where he can protect you. Just like he loves when he can transform and hold you in his hands, carrying you around while you smile up at him and remind him you can walk. Laughing at him when he gruffly tells you that your short, little legs are too slow, because he can’t admit that he just wants to hold you. “That it?”

• “You’re warm,” you say, embarrassed and pulling your blanket up around your chin hoping he lets it go. Because you can’t just say it’s because you’d wanted to be near him. That you miss him when he’s out here playing truck and you’re in the house. Hear him huff through his vents at you, but his seat shifts a little more to let you lay down almost flat. Making sure you’re comfortable when he doesn’t have to. “Good night,” you whisper. He rumbles softly, the noise spilling into you. ‘Get some rest. I’ve got you, sweetspark,’ he says and you love him a little more for it. Even if you’re not brave enough to say it.

genuinely I have sold a couple runs of earrings now and I can provide solid evidence that advertising that clipons even exist as an option literally tripled my sales

And please if you have the options, get traditional screw backs without a hinged clip. Everything with a clip works by squeezing your ear as hard as it can. Screw backs let you manually tighten it enough that they won’t slip off, but no further, and are much more comfortable for longer periods of time. They seem to be dying out, though, and increasingly hard to get.
