Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.

Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.

PUSHING DAISIES 1.01 – "Pie-lette"
there have been a few posts showing the parallels between lestat’s dynamics with gabriella and akasha (with the memory of baby!lestat and his sticks juxtaposed with keeper!lestat and his ice cream scoop being a major one) but i can’t help but notice that the changes to the towmbk storyline means that the dynamic between lestat and marius/akasha also strongly mirrors the dynamic between lestat and magnus.
marius is singing about lestat’s blue eyes and blonde hair when he wakes up from his dirt nap, which are the physical characteristics magnus sought him out for. marius also took lestat from where he was sleeping, dragged him to an isolated stone room in the middle of nowhere and then told him he was selected to inherit something he not only did not ask for, but was unaware existed previously. this powerful creature you do not understand has identified you specifically to be their heir/keeper congratulations on your new position you cannot refuse it, good luck. and then he gets left with the responsibility of the role with extremely minimal instruction and an empty hall full of treasures, and no one to ask for help. and then he gets forcibly bitten and then given new blood, which causes him to have new, difficult to control powers that he also doesn’t understand before being kicked out again.

tv viewing 2026, quarter two
twin peaks (season one)
obviously one of the goats, but it’s delightful to get to experience the story for myself. technically a rewatch before i start season two, but i think i got way more out of it this time around black sails (season three)
this show has taken up residence in my brain and is not leaving room for much else. its absolutely enthralling and i cannot get enough of it, even though i know it’s going to break my heart.

My toxic fandom take is that I think that it's awful how much we can talk to creators and get answers from them word of god style. We should be out here in a godless place rooting for scraps of lore in the media like truffle pigs out in the fields

the more I think on it the more I feel like big boss is a reaction to armand’s apology tour specifically. besides the implication that is was written in a day (since it’s clearly a reworking of salamander’s would-be hit they were workshopping in the bus), it’s laughably shallow when considering the extent of armand and lestat’s history and grievances with each other.
and the thing is…so was the apology letter. like, the things armand apologizes for (misinterpreting lestat’s affections in their time in paris, thinking poorly of him for leaving him the theater) are so superficial and insincere and bury the lead on the things he’s actually done to the extent that it’s actually insulting. he doesn’t apologize for orchestrating the (very real and not a performance) trial that killed lestat’s daughter. he doesn’t apologize for kidnapping and torturing nicki, outing lestat as a vampire in the process. he doesn’t apologize for psychologically abusing louis and claudia, lying about their shared history in the book, abruptly cutting off communication after he told lestat louis had tried to commit suicide or any of the things lestat would actually care about (and yes, he doesn’t necessarily owe lestat apologies for all of those as much as the people directly affected but there’s no way he even for a second thought lestat being so depressed and guilty his daughter died he didn’t bother to correct louis that he planned it as “strength of character”). and so the song is similarly shallow and dumb. lestat makes fun of his hair and his attitude and his sexual prowess while wearing the pants from the trial and the hair and makeup armand made claudia wear to humiliate her because that’s the elephant in the room that armand won’t talk about and lestat can’t talk about.
basically, the whole things feels a bit like lestat going “you gave me a bullshit apology so here’s a bullshit song, i put negative effort into it i hope you hate it.” its biggest fan (armand’s version), trying to turn someone who genuinely hurt him into a joke.
armand was genuinely so funny last episode like he’s planning out his apology tour and he’s like “okay let’s start with lestat…i will break into his trailer while he’s sleeping and everyone else is gone which won’t freak him out at all because i have never once been involved in the disappearance of his loved ones, and then i will read my apology letter which goes chronologically and doesn’t start with the murder of his daughter which is clearly the main thing he’s upset about and also our last interaction with each other and then i will tell him to stop making music that announces vampires exist even though i contributed to a book that also announced vampires exist and that he was one and included his full name and physical description and instructions on how to kill him that people have been attempting to do in my name”
