I'm so sorry for my prolonged absence I really would love to stick to my "at least one post per week thing" but I always end up so exhausted ;_;

That said! Here we have Valjean meeting Cosette in the woods when she was made to go there to fetch water for the Thénardiers. The light in the illustration is purely metaphorical: Valjean is pulling her out of the dark.

In the second scene Valjean gifts Cosette that beautiful doll she saw in the shopfront, her Catherine. She is overjoyed!

"...to be the watch-dog, and to lick the intruder's hand!"

His entire storyline is that he is the law's faithful hunting dog. His storyline revolves around chasing and hunting down this one man. And when he finally comes face to face with him he forsakes his original master and is torn apart by his loyalty and his sense of justice

Marius fails to impress at the Jardin du Luxembourg

Soft lauching Marius with this colorful scene!

I'll elaborate on my choice for Marius in a dedicated post, for now focus on his silly expression!

Nothing much to say about this piece in particular, though I think it's particularly satisfying to look at!

Bonus! Les Jardins du Luxembourg

...Also soft launching Paris! Once again, I'll save more space for Paris itself. Now, as for the gardens, I decided to make the Luxembourg more of a big greenhouse decorated with some bird statues that also function as illumination for the surrounding area. The park is less of a garden and more of a small jungle with a wide variety of plants to fit the animal theme more! It also functions as respite for the chaos that is the big city. In general, in the project it was very important for me to show a big difference between the rural, the simple, and the mess that is the city. The city is more advanced, populated by a wider variety of animals and has a more steampunk (sometimes noir) aesthetic to it.

Also one thing I'm very curious about - does the artwork look ok quality-wise on your devices? I think it might not, because these illustrations are actually pretty huge (they were meant for print after all - yes I DID print the project, though only 4 copies exist).
