There's always a moment of intense cultural whiplash whenever I realize I'm talking to someone who thinks "legal" and "illegal" are meaningful categories and ascribes innate goodness to following the law. It's like meeting a space alien.
I hate that âbad dreamâ just means ânightmareâ instead of âshitty quality dream.â I had a bad dream last night. It wasnât scary it just didnât make a lot of narrative sense
Every Pride Month Iâm once again struck by the ridiculousness of the âmarriage is between a man and a woman, as (the Christian) God intendedâ and similar âmarriage is a (somehow a solely) Christian institutionâ rhetoric. Your God did not invent marriage. Your God was late to the scene on the whole marriage thing. It existed long before the Old Testament, even. Which is not to say that marriage as a Christian rite (which was a later historical construct) is not valid, I believe everyone has a right to practice their religious beliefs surrounding marriage but, again, most religions and societies have some concept of marriage and your idea of Christian marriage entered the game way later than some of these.
The concept of marriage in American society is a legal construct, not a religious one.
(Also, side note, Christian marriage being between âone man and one womanâ is controversial even in Christian theological debate because polygyny is never definitively condemned in the text. They only decided on the one man and one woman thing in 673 and not everyone agreed.)
Friendly reminder as we get closer to the launch of the ModRetro M64. ModRetro is owned by Palmer Lucky, a self described âRadical Zionistâ who fundraises for Donald Trump.
Palmer Lucky also has another company, called Anduril Industries, that manufactures and sells AI powered weapons and surveillance systems. ModRetro even sells Anduril branded gameboys that were made from the same metal that they use to manufacture attack drones.
Donât buy this thing. A 200 dollar Nintendo 64 clone is not worth your soul.
The reason Iâm bringing this up now is because there seems to be a new marketing push happening for this device. Itâs all over my feed on TT and IG right now.
They seem to be pushing the fact that there are new Nintendo64 games being made for the M64. This is very misleading because any game that runs on the M64 will run on a real Nintendo 64.
Thereâs also been new games coming out for the Nintendo 64 for years. ModRetro didnât make this happen. Theyâre just publishing a few games. The Nintendo 64 Homebrew scene has been thriving on its own.
June 4 2017 - Antifascists capture a Thin Blue Line flag during a counter-protest in Portland. The flag is used by right-wingers to show their support for police murdering people. [video]/[video]
I can totally believe people on Twitter are unemployed but on Tumblr it's always someone studying the microscopic footprints of the honeybee and a nuclear physicist developing cold fusion posting about their blorbos on their lunch break
i miss the collective high from when luigi allegedly killed the healthcare ceo and also when charlie got kirked like can we have another round of something like that pls?
being a kid and hearing adults say stuff like "woah 2011 was 4 years ago haha" didn't really convey the fucking horror of a youtube video crossing my recommended labelled "9 years ago" and it's from 2017. that's not true. 9 years ago is 2010 or something. don't lie.
i am Thinkimg . about the Character. and listening to a Song. i a m sure this will not have repercussions
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
Mondays aren't that bad once you cannot tell days apart from eachother
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
some of you have never had your notp be the most popular ship in the fandom and it shows
Love character relationships that can only be described as "whatever the fuck these two have going on"
