Wondering why this video I shared of a white man with all of his skin showing and his penis prominently protruding in his underwear is not being marked mature... But a Black woman's back fat got marked mature... A Black woman's skin got marked mature the moment I shared it... HMMMMMMM.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
THATS CRAZY
this is like. the least important criticism of tvl show but the songs are SO boring. it feels indicative of the current crop of writers not wanting to engage with any of the gothic elements of the book or even the previous 2 seasons of the show. like. there are so mamy musical influences from the past 40 years and beyond to draw on that actually fit with the vampire lestats character and personal tastes. opera. classical. gothic rock. post punk. 00s emo. symphonic metal. blues. doom. musicals! we live in a post nightwish/type o negative/bauhaus/POTO/evanesence/screamin jay hawkins/HIM/siouxsie and the banshees/christian death/candlemass/MCR/opeth/faith and the muse/dead can dance/ghost/lacuna coil/nick cave/orgy/paradise lost world. to name a few. theres no excuse for the songs to be as painfully dull and forgettable as they are. skill issue
Uh hey, IWTV fandom? I realise that the last time us South Asians were discussing this you might not have noticed, but you can't go around definitively assuming that Armand and Fareed are Muslim. Rashid, yes, almost definitely, and so Armand was performing Muslimness when he was being Rashid.
But Arun is a Hindu name. (And rather Vedic at that which further complicates the identities at hand.)
And Bhansali is a Gujarati surname, could be Sindhi maybe Rajasthani, mostly Hindu but possibly Jain. I've had fun headcanoning him as a Bombay boy with Parsi mom and Gujju dad but he could be a Karachi Sindhi Muslim...
The point being that there are no clear signs that give either of these characters a religious identity.
Which is shitty, racist writing, because it is ludicrous to write South Asians without a clear religious and caste backstory.
And they have been doing this sloppy, incoherent writing from the beginning, when they had Louis say 'alvida Dr Bhansali' and him respond with 'hamaare punah milne tak' straight out of bad Google translate. Alvida is more Urdu but punah is Sanskritised Hindi so who knows what he fuck common language the show was trying to say existed between Armand, Fareed and Louis.
This is not to take away from people's critiques of making brown men live cast a beheading etc. But they have not been stated clearly to be Muslim and it is in fact an additional proof of racist bad writing that it is unclear if they are or aren't.
sam saying they wrote and planned on filming the lesmand tower fight and cut it…
this scene being teased with this quote…
armand torturing louis felt out of nowhere and armand was so Elephant In The Room to lestat throughout the rest of the season because armand was supposed to put LESTAT in the decapitation saw trap!!!!!
it’s amazing how women are able to navigate crowded rooms without ever touching a palm to a man’s lower back
the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers
It's so interesting that Lestat gets to honor the daughter he helped murder in a lynching by writing a song about her without any narrative pushback. But when Louis does the same by putting her yellow dress on the wall to honor her, the narrative has Ghost Claudia yell at him to burn the dress after throwing racial slurs at him.
So Claudia hates Louis so much that she doesn't want him honoring her memory, but she has nothing to say about Lestat, who played an active role in her death, honoring her with a song? She doesn't call him out, challenge him, or even acknowledge it. Not even to mock him. Man.....
Being a Black viewer of TVL and socially aware is something. I don't know what that something is, but it's definitely something.
Edited to add that it's being brought to my attention that she did acknowledge the song in passing with "a song in the radio". My mistake for missing it, I only watched this scene once because it hit a nerve for me, so I am trusting the people in the comments on that detail.
In any case, I was wrong about the factual detail. There was some level of narrative pushback. But I am left to wonder: had Claudia's condemnation of Lestat's song carried the same narrative weight as her condemnation of Louis's dress on the wall, would it really have been so easy for me to miss on my first viewing?
Even Delainey herself called out that Stained Glass Eyes scene:
"And then like, when I reflect on Stained Glass Eyes... that was like, romanticised as well! Like, his whole grief and seeing her slowly walk up and enjoy the song."

i’m sorry to pick this post specifically, because it applies to many — but why are so many criticisms of TVL objectively incorrect? claudia specifically mentions the song as being just as much bullshit as louis going after bruce, and very much targets both of them with her hate. she calls him out for the song, the trial, and how even in hell she can find joy in knowing she outsmarted him.
is there an epidemic of people just hearing what they want to hear? please, everyone, watch this show with subtitles, the dialogue is very dense — but very good.
“She very much targets them both.”
To say this to dismiss the criticism of how softly Lestat is treated by the narrative in comparison to Louis is incredibly disingenuous because we are all aware that she is far more insulting to Louis than Lestat. Nobody is saying she does not technically insult them both.
“She calls him out for the trial.” She mentions that he came to Paris looking for vengeance, she doesn’t throw slurs and says she hates him more than her rapist even though he helped kill her by participating in the lynching of her and Louis.
Oh and she also mentions the trial to say that she would have done the same thing as Lestat! Except she would have let Louis die! Yeah, that’s really calling him out 👏🏻
It really just seems like you are taking the opportunity of someone missing one line of dialogue to be condescending and act like people who are rightfully criticizing the show are doing poor analysis. There are many problems with this scene. You want to handwave the nuances in the criticism that people have while at the same time picking at a detail someone got wrong.
Jacob and Assad discuss TVL with EW
IDK it pisses me off the way people act like murderers are some sort of great puzzle to be solved when 90% of the time its literally just a boring freak that hates women
A 19-year-old black trans girl was shot to death this month, and there has been absolutely no media reporting on it - despite extensive reporting on almost identical incidents in the same part of Florida, at the same time. The police, as usual, misgendered her in the police report and have done nothing to find her killer. Her name was Jayla Mcgee. Black trans people deserve to grow old.
Police misgendered Jayla McGee, local media overlooked her homicide, and her community was left to make sure she was not erased.
A huge reason why Queen of the Damned (2002) flopped so hard was because they wanted to skip over The Vampire Lestat and focus on rockstar Lestat only (minus the few pieces from TVL that they needed to shittily adapt so viewers had any semblance of context)
And now that’s exactly what AMC did with season 3, too, but instead of having a decent soundtrack and good visuals to make up for some of it, it’s all shit from a butt
Like, as a young Black woman who has some deep, conflicting traumas about her upbringing... Of loving my parents deeply because I know how much they love me, but also knowing that if I take even a minute to think too hard about the shit that went down between us, there's an ugly, festering resentment for what they've done that gives me nightmares to this day... They did so fucking wrong by Claudia and Louis' relationship.
One of the (many, MANY) things I can't stand about fandoms translation of their relationship is that Claudia always hated Louis. She didn't. She loved him, a lot. Protected him, even when she was deeply sick of his ass. It's why his constant nonsense hurt her so bad. And that's really what happens sometimes. You'll love somebody, and you know they love you, but you just so damn SICK of they bullshit putting you through hell, and you let em go. You gotta seek your own space, for your own health. (Once again, 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾)
I'm telling you, if Claudia had been able to live her life with Madeleine and seek some space, her relationship with Louis would have had time to work out. But ya know. Her other, WHITE father, the one she tried to kill because he was abusing her and Louis (instead of LETTING HER CATCH THAT TRAIN) lynched her. And then she called him her favorite while calling Louis a nappy headed slave. 🙃 Brooooo.
