The minute Whisp let go, there was no guarantee she wouldnât slink off into a corner, embrace her friends, and seriously reconsider moving back to Transylvania. Her knees felt weak. She could barely hold back the tears in her eyes -
Whisp was right, though. Gigi was too good for her. She didnât deserve that ghoul, she never deserved that ghoul, and sheâd been an absolute imbecile. A tear rolled down her right cheek, just the one, silent only because of the risk. She wouldâve taken a stake to the heart over that - over hurting Gigi further and letting Ember be hurt because of her. These delicate, fragile girls did not need the plague of her presence, and yet - now she absolutely could not leave them.
Her hands were pressed against the barrier, nearly resting her face against it as well, focused on Gigi and Gigi alone.
Ember could only silently hope that this Whisp would listen to GigiâŠ
Funny how the very ghoul she liked to torment was trying to save her⊠from her twin. The ghost didnât know which side she was fully on, but whatever side helped her see another day is the one sheâd choose.
Whisp was stunned⊠for a moment she was stunned as she recollected her sisterâs words⊠even after everything⊠she still⊠but⊠then again⊠knowing Gigi after all this time⊠it really shouldnât be surprisingâŠ
Still⊠the giant genie looked back into the two ghouls in her grasp with a sneer, grasping the sphere containing Gory as if she wanted to smash her! However as she shut her eyes, resisting her anger⊠she had no choice.
Gigi was right⊠this wasnât the way she wanted it, no matter how much they deserved it. With an aggravating sigh, the moon genie watched her sister become a bit relieved when she dropped the sphere containing Gory and broke it free as she reached the ground.
However⊠there was still one thingâŠ
As the portal disappeared, Whisp still had Ember in her hand and brought her to her face. She would give the other ghoul one last message so the ghost would get the hintâŠ
â Youâre lucky of my sisterâs mercy   on you. DONâT mess with her again or   next time WILL be your LAST time. â
With this, she allowed the sorry state ghost fall from her hand and towards the ground before she shrunk back to her regular size. At the instant, Gigi embraced her with mumbled âthank youâsâ as Whisp held her just as tight. No one⊠no one was gonna hurt her againâŠ
Oof!
There wasnât much elegance in the way Gory fell flat on her ass in the broken magic sphere, but not being dead was sufficient - she watched them, cautious toward Gigiâs reaction and Whispâs response - until Whisp let Ember go. Whether or not Gigi had been distracted, she was on her feet, and had moved across the room before Ember landed in her arms. There were no witty lines, no lighthearted quips - she pressed Ember close and smoothed her fizzled-out hair. She didnât really want to ask how badly she was hurt. âYouâre okay.â She boosted her, gently, and turned back to Gigi.
She didnât know what to say - what to do - let alone how to begin to apologize. The weight of her gaze remained unspoken; she wasnât even sure if she was allowed to step closer to her, but the way she looked at her said a lot more than words seemed capable of. ââŠ.thank you.â
... but at what cost...?
Ember shrunk back from Whispâs words before she fell, no will to float until Gory managed to catch her... but even then, it felt like she was still falling, still cold as eyes of the entire school focused right on her, whispers floating in the back of the crowds...
Her head tilted to see the genie sisters hugging it out, and she immediately averted her eyes. Gory may have caught her, but they were just friends so...
First she turned invisible. She knew she lost whatever other fans she had... and then she moved to escape from the crowd, out of Goryâs arms. She didnât care where.
She just had to go...
