therese  looks away slightly, tries not to let heat pool in her cheeks, before looking back at carol again as the other woman looks over her face. therese’s view of the world still had an innocence about it like a child’s might, that came with her young age and what little of the world she’d actually seen. new things could be rather daunting, though she found she didn’t find anything quite so daunting as carol, and what she made therese feel.

          There is a curious, slightly puzzled expression on Carol’s face, in her smile. She thinks, sometimes, that she knows Therese, or that -- at least -- she’s figured her out, but there’s always more. Therese is always surprising her. “What are you thinking?” she asks, a less pointed version of her perpetual refrain of What’s the matter? She doesn’t think anything’s the matter, but she does think that Therese, for all the mutability of her expression, how easy it sometimes is to read her, can be terribly opaque. She wishes she could look inside Therese’s head, run her fingers through the secrets there.

          She makes the drinks, splashing a little water into           her own glass of whiskey. Her guest looks like a           bit of a hard drinker, to her eye. “Here we are. Is           it cold out there?” The crisp quality of the air out-           side speaks of a little chill, but not one warranting           Maleficent’s... How many scarves did she take off           when she came in? A whole wardrobe’s worth,           it seems.
