From the beginning, The Boys portrayed Homelander as a pathetic manchild who throws tantrums and resorts to physical violence to assert and maintain control over others. He was never meant to be "cool," which is why it's funny how some people are angry about how pathetically he went out. Like, damn, y'all completely missed the fact Homelander was written to be a loser.

the longer i think about homelander's death, the more i hate it. i thought i'd feel some satisfaction given his terrible actions but i just didn't. there was nothing cathartic about watching him regress to a childlike state and beg for his life only for his cries to go unanswered once again. his abusers got away with everything while his corpse was paraded around on live tv for everyone to see and now the world will never even know what vought did to him. how they took a child and broke him beyond repair for money. all his pain and suffering covered up because in the end, no one cared. it makes me sick

Warnings: uhhh let’s see… NSFW, discussion of kinks, mentions of trauma.

Note: dear GOD it’s been a minute since I wrote anything like this, pls be gentle with me. Uhh can be read as an x reader ig??? I might do another one of these, I just needed somewhere to shove these ideas quickly, sorry if it doesn’t make any sense. Also this is specific to Homelander and Marlowe, I’ll add more once I get my brain right.

He fucking HATED her at first not gonna lie. Marlowe ofc did not care at all, she’s…not right in the head but that’s neither here nor there.

Mainly because she’s the type of person to bring you a coffee and say absolutely fuck all about it, like she’s that one friend that remembers EVERYTHING but is pretty reserved and quiet so you wouldn’t realize it until you walk into a conference room and find that one breakfast sandwich you mentioned in passing already waiting for you.

Except it was pomegranate and cranberry danishes. That she made from scratch, because she was bored at 1am and accidentally made too many.

Consistently looked at Homelander like he was the best thing since sliced bread.

Lowkey half of the songs on her first studio album were about her feelings for him. Poor Marlowe lmao

Yeah so I’m sure you can see where Homelander’s annoyance towards Marlowe came from.

Marlowe sings like all the fucking time, in the shower, while cooking, while cleaning, you name it. Homelander loves it ofc, the first time he caught her singing along to some Avril Lavigne song was how she got the nickname “Bird”.

Sometimes, when he can’t sleep, Marlowe will grab her guitar and play something for Homelander. Some nights he can fall back asleep, sometimes he can’t, when he can’t Marlowe always stays up with him as long as she can. She usually falls asleep and he watches her sleep like a goddamn creep

Homelander secretly has a folder of fan edits of Marlowe saved on his phone that he watches whenever she’s on tour or something. Will deny it until his dying breath.

Marlowe has been caught watching Homelander thirst traps on TikTok by various members of The Seven on numerous occasions. She used to be embarrassed, but once she and Homelander got together she stopped giving a shit.

Speaking of Marlowe going on tour!!1!!!1! Homelander fucking hates it, like pouts for days and acts like she’s breaking up with him hates it. Her music is very important to her and she refuses to sacrifice her autonomy because Homelander is a nervous wreck, so they decided that Marlowe would give Homelander a copy of her flight details, tour dates, venue details, etc. so he can “keep her safe” which we all know means stalk her.

He loves to pop in when she’s on tour if he can. Marlowe loves looking out into the crowd and knowing Homelander might be waiting for her backstage, it’s a surprise every time and he loves how excited she gets to see him no matter what.

Gonna just get it out of the way right here right now, Homelander age regresses. It’s not sexual but I put this down here because honestly? I’m not in the mood for the discourse 🖤 But yes, he is an age regressor and Marlowe is ENTHUSIASTICALLY his caregiver/mommy. She is fully aware of his childhood in the lab and his trauma, and knows how it affects him daily.

Marlowe loves when Homelander is regressed, he becomes extra needy, extra clingy, extra affectionate, and she adores it.

I can’t be the only one who thinks HL has age regressed a couple of times. Like maybe not the full blown diaper pacifier type shit (no shade if you’re into that) but I know there have been at least a few times where he’s done something small for himself to fill the lack of a childhood he had, and from there he just falls deeper and deeper into it. Guaranteed it probably doesn’t work all that well for him considering there isn’t a caregiver in the picture.

In the process of creating my characters, I start with an abstract vibe of their personality, powers, or the general idea of their background. I’m sure it’s a common thing but I tend to kind of ‘Mary Sue’ my OC’s (not that that’s a bad thing, I’m just a perfectionist and very hard on myself) and they start to get a sort of ‘same face syndrome’ and become almost copies of each other. Focusing on the overall vibe of the character helps me create more fleshed out, multifaceted characters.

When I was creating Marlowe, it was important to me that she wasn’t just a run of the mill self-insert. Especially given the nature of The Boys, I wanted her to feel like a character that could realistically exist in the source material. Eventually I’ll create a whole FAQ type post about her lol.

One of the things I felt responsible for was maintaining a certain level of discretion and respect. Marlowe is a very unique person; she is a direct reflection of myself, my dreams, desires, and the things I’ve been through to some degree. I needed to go about this tactfully, I’m fully aware of both the comics canon as well as the Amazon TV show, and the graphic nature of it. The decision to ship Marlowe with Homelander was not made lightly; I am fully aware that Homelander is a god-awful person, but considering that I am 25, can differentiate between fiction and reality, AND the fact that Homelander is not a real person, I chose to pair Marlowe with him. Their relationship is nothing to aspire towards; it is incredibly toxic and codependent. However, they do genuinely love and care for each other (as much as Homelander can love someone else.), I don’t think Homelander is inherently incapable of love, quite the opposite actually. I think that if someone who grew up similarly to him, maybe having dealt with abusive parents and ideally gotten therapy, then they could sympathize with him on a deeper level. We see this in how Homelander tries desperately to relate to others but can’t because of his upbringing, I think that if someone (like myself, cause crappy parents and not getting a real childhood) experienced something similar they’d be able to connect with him on a deeper level, and possibly get through to him?

I’m fully aware it’s a moot point and that Vought designed him to be like that, but I firmly believe that he at least deserves a chance.
