So my mom and I, after watching all of Leverage, have been watching Leverage: Redemption. And we're maybe halfway through the first season, and a few episodes ago there was this moment. Brianna's laying out what their latest mark does--she's one of those "health" influencers that sells garbage concoctions to desperate people. Brianna notes that the mark specifically targets women, because, as she says, "Women get misdiagnosed 30% of the time".

And Eliot just very quietly goes "What?"

And it is COMPLETELY unacknowledged. Brianna just continues talking. But. Just. Listen Eliot is my favorite and that "What?" shot a dart into my mind. He did not know that. He is upset that he did not know that. He has just found out that he has a privilege that he didn't know he had. And he is upset because, well, he's Eliot, and it's not right. Hell, his team, his family, is now majority women, and he has a privilege over them.

The whole recent JK Rowling demanding she be debated and posting an upskirt pic of a trans woman to mock because she's upset said trans woman blocked her... thing... is IMO something of a fascinating example of the way Rowling has kind of degraded over the years.

Not saying that she used to be a saint, or that she even neccessarily used to believe anything all that different. But - and I could be wrong here - the understanding I have of JKR's online presence in 2016 is suggestive of someone who understood that sort of behavior as kinda pathetic terminally online nonsense. Who probably would have sympathized with 2026 Rowling's opinion but would have understood that throwing a fit in 'public' like that doesn't make for a charismatic or persuasive figure. Somewhere along the way that capacity for judgement seems to have been lost.

...okay so that actually happened. Normally, given just 'X posted upskirt of Y', I'd be somewhat inclined to try and find the photo or otherwise determine the degree to which it reads as an 'upskirt' but the "debaaaaateeee meeeeeee" context makes it fairly clear the picture was intended to be humilating or otherwise upsetting so thankfully I don't have to bother.
