“Someone incredibly smart must have taught me that,” Ivy smiled.

“I try and convince myself because one of these days I won’t be trying anymore. I’ll actually be okay.”

“I don’t know what’s going on, and I won’t make you tell me because it’s none of my business, but it seems to me that you’ve beat the odds to come out alright from plenty of terrible situations before, who’s to say you won’t be able to do the same now?”

Ivy laughed, “You’ve certainly got me there.”

“Yeah no, things are fine. I’m fine.” She nodded her head pushing a fake smile on her lips.

Ivy smiled softly, “I won’t pry, because your business is yours but... you sound more like you’re trying to convince yourself.”

“Ice cream sounds perfect.” He grinned. 

Ivy smiled, “It’s never a bad time for ice cream.”

Josh smiled at her. “I would love to get something to eat. Any where you want to go. My treat.”

“Why don’t we go get ice cream?”

“Awe, well forgive me.”

“I think I might be able to find forgiveness in me.”

“Well I’m alive.. so there’s that. How’re you though?”

“That’s a pretty low standard... is everything alright?”

“A butthead? Ouch. That’s rude Little Ivs. Very rude. I might have to tell our dads on you.”

“And that’s exactly what makes you a butthead, Jags.”

“It’s all so new. Once you’ve lived with it for a while it will feel more true. You’re welcome, Ivy.” 

Ivy sighed, still not quite convinced, but she figured she’d rather give her Dad some peace of mind, at least for the time being. “Do you want to go get something to eat?”
