Silco: WHOEVER CAUSED THIS MESS IS GOING TO-
Jinx: It was me...
Silco: ...Is going to be forgiven because everyone deserves a second chance.
Imagine Dragons JID - Enemy || Arcane S01E09
Powder Inner Demons Jinx
Silco - They’ll Never Understand
There is a line from Silco that i was thinking a lot about recently so went back to find the scene it was from and rewatch it. The line is “The only way to defeat a superior enemy is to stop at nothing. To become what they fear”
Jinx quotes this in the tea party scene. “Silco thinks he made Jinx, with all his hard won lessons. ‘excise your doubts Jinx’ ‘be what they fear Jinx’“ The line is in the scene just after Silco abducts Vander… he is talking with him about shimmer and the nation of Zaun. Even offering Vander a chance to become his ally once more. He recounts the story of the drowning experience and talks about how much hate he had for Vander, but that he still respects him. Vander replies with an apology, expressing his regret for doing that to Silco. And Silco sighs in disappointment and replies with “You still dont understand…” I think this discussion was strategically designed to mirror Jinx and Vi in the tea party. Vi’s talk with Jinx, trying to explain away why she didnt come back and express her regret.. its VERY similar to the way Vander expressed regret to Silco. But Silco went through this already… he knows the pain of trying to have a reunion and form a new bond with the person who betrayed you. He knows the second waive of pain from Vander rejecting him once more. So i think when he is telling Jinx “They’ll never understand, its only us” he means that Just like in his reunion with Vander, Vi wont understand Jinx and how she thinks anymore. Only someone who went through that feeling of betrayal and abandonment would understand. And this makes me wonder if the entire reason Silco was trying to get to Vi before Jinx found out was to avoid Jinx having that same experience that he had..
absolutely enamored by how powder literally just,, throws herself onto silco and he’s just like “damn… it’s rough being a single father”
I wanna talk about this scene since no one seemed to catch on the meaning behind Silco glaring at Vi in the bridge.
Firstly, imagine the sheer terror this man went through when he went to that bridge in the first place, probably only to go check out what happened but never expected his daughter to be lying half dead in the middle of it all.
And then he sees Vi, who is hiding behind the rushing guards, again, as Jinx lay fighting for her life on the ground. And that probably set him off the most because it solidified his point that Vi could never be trusted more than she ever was to begin with. In his view, Vi left her sister when she needed her the most TWICE, the latter worse than the former, and he couldn't deal with that. That's also probably why he was so sure of his words that Vi would leave her again.
He saw it for himself and couldn't let it happen again. His personal experience now combined with his love and need to protect his daughter from the same fate is over the top that he really wanted Vi out of the picture instantly.
i really REALLY love how they framed Jinx's internal struggle at the dinner party scene. how Vi, who was just trying to help Powder, made it so so much worse.
Vi calling out to remember their dead family to try and get her back from the brink shes on. only Jinx's head is so mangled and broken and confused that they manifest as they always have. monsters that haunt her, the indicators of her guilt and all the things shes done wrong. not her brothers anymore. just ghosts that whisper hate in her ears.
but Vi doesnt know that. Vi thinks shes helping Powder. so she keeps going. keeps driving the knife deeper and deeper.
i cant help but think that in Vi trying to save her sister, Jinx ultimately realised that Vi will never let Powder go. she wont accept her, now, because Vi doesn't understand. cant understand. and her helping the voices in Jinx's head only reinforces that.
This was a test.
here, in this clip, Jinx was testing Vi.
To see how Vi would react, just how out of touch she thought her sister really was. And the way she reacted, Jinx found out that Vi would never accept her; their relationship would never be the same.
That Vi would choose to believe what others say about Jinx over trusting her own sister.
My crowning achievement
This post by @piltover-sharpshooter cracked me up so much, I had to do a comic! To round it off I added a beginning and end panel. Hope you enjoy my version! :D
Top Darkly Emo Silco & Jinx Moments in Act III
Okay, let’s count the ways Act 3 drummed home Silco’s dedication to Jinx (in a really twisted way).
1.) Doesn’t take it personally when Jinx tortured him a little
2.) Has to be drugged by Singed because even Singed knows Silco could never watch Singed do what is necessary to Jinx
3.) Reaction of horror when he sees injured Jinx
4.) Stares down Vi on the bridge as he carried Jinx off
5.) Desperate to save Jinx’s life
6.) Willing to listen to and take actual useful advice from Sevika to give Jinx some space/makes an attempt to trust his relationship with Jinx
7.) Was ready to turn himself in to jail in Jinx’s place when he makes a deal with Jayce
8.) Has faith that Jinx is strong enough to survive the procedure.
9.) Threatens Singed with a knife when he wakes up and doesn’t know what happened to Jinx
10.) Finally starts to have more sympathy for Vander, the man he hates because of how he feels about Jinx vis a vis how Vander felt about his daughters
11.) Fiercely sides with Jinx’s new identity, the one that Jinx sends up deciding it the real her/is more the real her
12.) Credibly says that he would have turned down Jayce’s proposal because he would never turn her over
13.) Struggles desperately to free himself and shoots at VI imo arguably because yes he is also “competing” with Vi, but also because it appears Vi’s words are hurting Jinx
14.) His words are the ones that echo with her as she does her first big dramatic deed as Jinx (imo kind of like Vander’s “You have a good heart” ended up informing Vi’s journey, Silco’s “We’ll show them all” is that for Jinx’s journey)
15.) Oh right USING HIS DYING WORDS TO COMFORT THE PERSON WHO KILLED HIM
BTW, it’s one of those irony things that at least one of the things Jinx accused him of, that he knew all along that Vi was alive wasn’t true. He really wasn’t lying to her about that, Marcus had told him that Vi was dead. However, the other part of Jinx’s complaint that he tried to keep Vi and Jinx apart after he found out about Vi being alive is still true.
(note just because he really did love her in his own value system doesn’t change that he is still a pretty unhealthy individual about himself, ie clearly has deep insecurities about Jinx leaving him or getting hurt and very quickly falls back on fanning her insecurities)
