For our November issue of ivystartupmag, we featured Hopscotch. The CEO and co-founder Jocelyn Leavitt, is a Dartmouth and Columbia Alum and Sam John the co-founder is a Columbia Alum. 

“Hopscotch is a programming language that can be used to create games. We originally built this as a programming language for girls. While we were thinking about our company’s name, Hopscotch stood out because it seemed really unintimidating; it’s a game that you actually make yourself. You draw these blocks and progress through them.”

In the October issue of ivystartupmag, we featured LOLA. LOLA is founded by Jordana Kier a Dartmouth, BA Alum and Alex Friedman a Columbia, MBA Alum. 

“Our mission is to ensure that women are informed enough to make educated decisions about their product choices. We’ve found that our biggest impact so far has been simply raising the question, “do you know what’s in your tampon?” A lot of women we’ve talked to have been enthusiastic about this conversation in general because many of them had never considered the issue before LOLA. Education is our primary goal in the long term - we’re starting to work with young girls in female empowerment organizations and doing our best to bring up the conversation in new communities.”

For our September issue of ivystartupmag, we featured x.ai. The Founder and COO, Alex Poon is a Columbia MBA alum. 

“Living in New York we noticed that people had difficulty coordinating meetings. Since people had that pain [of coordinating meetings] we figured let's alleviate that pain by building x.ai to schedule meetings.”

The second spotlight for the month of August is on the startup Vivonne founded by Jesscia Wolf, a Dartmouth Alum.

In August, we have two Dartmouth-affiliated startups. The first spotlight is on the startup Vendedy founded by Christine Souffrant. “The journey of launching Vendedy started from childhood. As a daughter of three generations of Haitian female street vendors, I grew up understanding that the way of life for many was selling in the streets. My mother immigrated to NYC and did what she knew best- sell Haitian artwork on the streets of Manhattan. Two billion people currently live in poverty, of which many make a living as street vendors due to limited employment. Despite the fact that well over one billion people travel the globe annually as tourists, volunteers, students, and for business, these street sellers still have inconsistent access to global consumers. For our July issue of ivystartupmag, we featured sailoboats. Two of the four cofounders, Adrian Gradinaru & Delphine Braas are Columbia MBA alums. “Sailo is an online boat rental marketplace that connects people who want to rent boats with boat owners and licensed captains. Our seamless platform uses technology to disrupt the archaic boat rental industry with the aim of making boating more accessible, affordable and enjoyable.”

Our first profile is on Fon Powell, a Computational Neuroscience PhD candidate at cornelluniversity and founder of S.A.L.T LLC.

“S.A.L.T is a health tech product patients use at home to measure salt levels in urine using a disposable device and mobile app. It's important for the 76M Americans with hypertension, 24M Americans with kidney stones, and 20M Americans with Chronic Kidney Disease to manage their conditions by keeping a low salt diet. The social impact of our startup is enormous. No device currently exists to allow patients to measure salt levels in a one-time test.  We are giving patients a tool to manage their own healthcare- cheaply and easily.”
