I think a lot of Helluvaverse haters just don’t want to admit to themselves that they are deeply culturally Christian and so a show about how people can change and not deserve to burn in Hell for eternity for sins they committed in their temporary lives makes them uncomfy. Like they make up stuff about how the show is actually bigoted to explain why they feel so uncomfortable, but they hate it for the same reasons that evangelical conservatives hate it.

Anon if I could give you a bouquet of flowers right now I would, you have perfectly described my exact thoughts on the root of a lot of Hellaverse criticism and hate. Decentering Christianity from our culture is borderline impossible because people in progressive movements don’t want to do the work to deconstruct their Christian upbringing because it’s makes them uncomfortable, like you said. This has far more important effects irl when it comes to politics but an unintended consequence of this mindset is any piece of media that doesn’t conform to Christian principles is treated with far more scrutiny than media that is more in line with Christian values.

It’s how you get people unironically saying that the exterminations were right because Hell is full of evil people, or that Lucifer is a bad character because he’s a sensitive guy and not a bearded buff dictator, or that Adam is portrayed wrong because he’s not accurate to his biblical counterpart, or that Charlie should just start killing people, etc etc etc. I could go on for literal hours.

I can’t wait to live in a world where we’ve realized we no longer have need of a Christian society and can completely adopt secular views, but as of now we have to hear idiots online say that Hazbin supports rape because they don’t think eternal punishment is an appropriate response for temporary crimes. Being an atheist Hazbin fan is actually exhausting.
