Genuinely the best Ninjago fic, to me!

So far it inspired me to draw a fan art/fan poster, because the work is literally so incredible it made me break my own bar and learn how to draw better XDDD

Kai immediately snaps into caring big brother mode when he realizes how upset Nya is.

I feel like there's a part of him that wanted to be mother and father to Nya. He was five when Ray and Maya went missing, obviously he couldn't fill that gap in Nya's life, but I think as he grew up Kai desperately tried to be a mother/ father figure for her. Even now, when he knows he wasn't enough, Kai is still falling into a habit of comforting her. This whole exchange feels like a clumsy, big brother attempt at helping a sibling laugh when they are in pain, because the tears are too scary to deal with in the moment.

I love these siblings, how they rely on each other for support and strength (because let's not forget, Kai credits Nya for helping him survive too)... but I also love how broken they are. Yes, they have been everything to each other, but even that everything isn't always enough.
