I don't usually enjoy other people's moments of glory - anymore than I enjoy watching another person eat good food that I'd rather be in my own mouth, but this is a rather unique moment for one guitarist.

Indeed it is.
Time never mellowed the Brigadier, neither has it mellowed the polls when it comes to favourite Doctors. In the Radio Times readership polls for top Doctor, Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor came in (sadl…

http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/movies/mask/56988/mask-movie-is-on-the-way
News that has absolutely nothing to do with me, beyond this retrospective and reflective post, is that the eighties cartoon, MASK (or M.A.S.K, depending on how pedantically punctual you’re being), is moving towards a film. My connection in part is the UK DVD cover artwork, in part, I had a lot of love of this cartoon as a kid, despite, having watched it on DVD as an adult, not being quite as enamoured.
That said, I can see the rationalisation that has this old classic being shoved forward into a movie space, more so than the rather odd choice of Rampage (a great arcade game, but not one you’d wish to watch-out over ninety minutes). M.A.S.K is the toy-inspired tale of a secret group of do-goodery moralising heroes who don uniquely powered masks and operate uniquely “masked” military vehicles disguised as non-military vehicles, to stop the less moral, don’t-goddery villains who don uniquely powered masks and operate uniquely “masked” military vehicles disguised as non-military vehicles.
There is some backstory, but it’s mild. I’m not saying this would be amazing, or perhaps even nostalgic, but the idea of high-technology disguised as the mundane worked well for Transformers, and in this project you’ve got a strong infusion of human agency, that depending on the cast, might be interesting. We’ll see. With a hint of the other highly popular Fast and Furious franchise, maybe they’re on a winner.
Anyhow, for me, it was a reminder of all that fun studying characters and vehicles for two covers. The DVD collection, sadly, didn’t have the third design but monochromed the first - a victim of the 2008 crash which hit the DVD industry badly. Just ask Woolworths why it’s not around to be asked about Woolworths.

HANNIBAL ANTHOLOGY “RAVAGE”: PRESENTING OUR CONTRIBUTORS!!!!!!
With a lot of joy we present our contributors for RAVAGE, coming in spring 2019.
Traverse Dante’s Inferno with us and explore Hannibal Lecter within the circles of HELL. Explore the man behind the mask and the demon behind the veil. Follow the beating of wings and the screams of the sinners!
114 artists and writers will illuminate the Inferno & HELL for us.
We have assigned an equal amount of artists and writers to the circles - as many as we possibly could, having to let go many an incredibly talented signed up artist or writer in the process (with a very heavy heart). RL being what it is we might see some of these signed up again, as pinch hitters, who knows. We will see.
We have prepared a small collage with previous works from the featured artists for you - please flail with us and scream and anticipate the sheer beauty they will create, side by side with the vivid stories and brilliant tales of our writers!!!
(big version)
(Please not that the size differences only happen due to the uneven number of artists (57) - they do not in fact have any other significance!)
Please - if you will, give this a boost, spread the word - we cannot wait to see what RAVAGE will become!!!
And now (in no particular order) - here are the artists and writers with their tags - go check them out!

We will highlight the artists and writers for you in more detail in the upcoming months because we KNOW that this is a LOT of input at once. 😄
We cannot wait!!!!! We have seen some of the ideas, and we can tell you… It will be beautiful! We hope you will join us on this journey!
I’m so excited to be part of this.
This week I’ve prepared some tips for everyone who is confused with arms. I know that pronation and supination is confusing and I recommend to learn in by heart <3
I have also announcement!
The day is approaching when I will release ebook or Gumroad PDF with all my anatomy tips + additional lessons + commentary.
I still am thinking how I will publish this but it will be done. Anyone who’s interested finally will be able to get everything in one place and some more good content. I will post some dates soon so look for that in next few weeks !

THE LAYERS CHEAT SHEET PART TWO (PART ONE HERE) Once again, I’m no expert- there are things about these layers I probably haven’t covered, so please try them out for yourself! Layers 1-7 help your contrast. They are usually a pair of the former two groups I went over in my last post. 1. OVERLAY: Helps your contrast by boosting your lights and darks, while the more mid tone pixels aren’t affected as much. It does this based on the layers beneath it. “Screens” the lights, “multiplies” the darks. 2. SOFT LIGHT: Similar to overlay, but a “softer” effect. You can think of soft light as more transparent. 3. HARD LIGHT: You can look at hard light as an intense version of overlay, with much brighter colors and a much less transparent look. 4. VIVID LIGHT: This is the heavy metal version of overlay- think of it similar to color dodge and color burn. Very intense colors, good for finding interesting lighting and color combos. 5. LINEAR LIGHT: Crazy amounts of contrast and color is added here, even more than vivid light. so heavy metal 6. PIN LIGHT: This one is interesting because besides it also being an intense contrast layer, it can add random noise to the active layer. Apparently this is a combo of the lighten blend mode on the light pixels and darken on the dark pixels, but the noise effect is what makes it really interesting imo. 7. HARD MIX: You will turn this mode on and be like “no” but it is actually adjusting its fill will reveal another overlay-ish type layer. It throws the colors on the active layer towards a more primary color such as blue, or magenta. _____ 8. DIFFERENCE: This will invert your colors, taking into account the layers below. If colors are very close, they will be black. 9. EXCLUSION: This also inverts your colors, taking into account the layers below. If colors are very close, they are grey. Exclusion and difference are layers that would be good for graphic pieces, I haven’t really gotten used to incorporating them in my painting workflow. 10. SUBTRACT: Similar to the above layers, but more intense. You will notice that the darker you make your active layer with Difference, exclusion, and subtract, the lighter and more transparent looking the result will be. 11. DIVIDE: Divide, however, usually results in crazy highlights that are pretty opaque unless the layer is fairly light, and then it will begin to go transparent. ___ 12. HUE: Makes the lower layer take on the hue of the active layer. 13. SATURATION: The lower layers take on the saturation of the active layer. 14. COLOR: The lower layers take on the color of the active layer. 15. LUMINOSITY: The lower layers take on the luminosity, or brightness, of the active layer. Once again, I’m no expert, but I hope this helps. Thanks guys! http://drawmaevedraw.tumblr.com/
Things that took me way too long to learn about colour theory
-colours are nothing but RELATIVE -neutral backgrounds. NEUTRAL BACKGROUNDS. they make your colours pop because COLOUR. RELATIVITY. -rim light are a cheat sheet for making awe-worthy art -on that note, DON’T DROWN YOUR DRAWINGS IN RIM LIGHT. LESS IS MORE. -light purple + ‘multiply’ = BEAUTIFUL SHADOWS -hell any light colour + ‘multiply’ = bam you have atmospheric shadows -orange/yellow light + blue/purple shadows (because our instinctual reference for light… is the sun. which is yellow/orange. and blah blah blah something light physics blah blah it makes the shadows the opposite colour, so opposite of yellow/orange sunlight is purple/blue shadows). I mean it’s a nice default but it’s not set-in-stone and other colour palettes add mood so GO ON WITH YOUR COOL LIGHTS AND WARM SHADOWS
(cont. if people are interested)
Ask and ye shall receive! I got quite a few questions about drawing noodles, but these were the first two asks in my inbox this morning! If anything is unclear because I’m terrible at explaining myself (you should hear me in person, very vague), just message me and I’ll help you. I can’t stress enough the importance of studying anatomy! Even though these are silly cartoony dragons, their anatomy is based off a ferret and a cat. If you’re struggling, do some sketches of those animals. Terryl Whitlatch is an amazing artist who has a strong focus on creature anatomy, check out how she makes amazing fantastical beasts!
