First I can find a large selection of heaters. Certainly a lot more than I can find at my local home improvement store. Second I can compare the price and features of each heater. The bonus is that there are reviews written by users of the heater. They give you the good and bad points of the heater and rate it on a five star rating system. I usually only look at products with 3.5 stars or more.
