a little something you should consider about amendments like the The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026:
i) it goes directly against the Supreme Court NALSA case ruling, the mind you, FUNDAMENTAL right to self-identity.
ii) it was passed in the lok sabha through a fucking VOICE VOTE of all things. to clarify, the decision makers of our country sat down to discuss whether an entire group of people should have rights or not, and decided by WHICH SIDE SOUNDED THE LOUDEST. Voice votes, my good fellow, are used for BUISNESS AGREEMENTS NOT THE LIVES OF PEOPLE.
and in a most stark fashion, iii) the urgency with which it was passed, the state of the world in which it was passed in (through a major economic crisis and several global wars), and the manner in which it was passed.
Taking all of these things into consideration, one would think that even the most basic of rights could be alleviated. How far is it from reality that queer meetups become banned? Pre-marital sex? Then what, women's right to vote? Rape protection? Our democracy? Oh wait, that last one's been gone for ages.
P.S. Do you remember when the British used to make laws on Indians without consulting Indians? Ok good, you remember colonial era India. Ok, do you remember when the white Americans made laws on POC without consulting them? Yep, slavery and aparthied all right. Ok, what about when men made laws on women without consulting them?
You remember, right?
Eh-ehm, also the social minister skipped the scheduled meeting. (Very convenient family emergency but hey, you have your right to privacy man, you know, the one that you're taking away from trans people?)
