It based on the notion of Hermeticism; the idea that God was a magician. The religious and philosophical idea that the universe is broken into the Macrocosm (the universe), and the microcosm (the individual). That which is above, corresponds to that which is below in order to accomplish the miracle of one thing. In simplest terms—whatever happens in the spiritual world, also happens in the physical world, and vice versa. Your spiritual and physical world existed on two equal and opposite sides; day shift and night shift.

The Pitt is so realistic because the healthcare system absolutely could not give two fucks if you, as a provider, are a human being with feelings and not a robot. Do more work, do better work, do faster work, do it for cheaper, do it out of the goodness of your heart. Work longer and harder and for free and at the expense of your mental health. And make sure you do it ethically, to the highest standard of care.

Have a panic attack in between your sessions. Make sure you cry in the bathroom after you finish seeing patients. And don’t let it affect your work. Compartmentalize your bullshit and get back to work.

I care about my patients and my mental health and the amount of times I’m being asked to pick between the two is fucking insufferable.

You meet him at the restaurant. He says he’s sorry for being late, he’s used to being a passsenger princess You ask, Even on the drive to work? He says no. They bring your drinks and he tells you that he had quail the last time he was here. The waiter tells him they’ve never served quail before at Chili’s He asks if they are sure. The waiter asks if Jack is calling him a liar Jack says he’s not calling him a "truther." He orders buffalo wings to split and asks if there’s a discount for just drumsticks since there’s a charge for only flats. The waiter says no. He gets them anyways. He asks if you’ve ever seen Saving Private Ryan You say yes. He tells you that war is nothing like that You ask, what part? He says the ending. You ask if he means the combat? He says no, the part where they go back and rescue Matt Damon You ask why it’s not like that He says Matt Damon wouldn’t be caught dead in camouflage. He asks if you want to see a fake leg You tell him you’ve seen his at work He asks you to guess how much it weighs You guess 5 pounds He shrugs and says he’s not sure He takes out his phone and you watch him write "no quail at Chili’s” in the notes app He asks you if you’re on Yelp, like it’s a social media app You say you are familiar but don't use it. He opens the app on his phone and shows you his profile He has 467 reviews. He leaves a 4-star review for a Chili’s in a different part of town and writes “No quail” as his only comment He’s signed up as John Shen, profile picture and all. He pays the bill with cash and leaves a $50 tip Says he doesn’t want the paper trail He fist bumps you at the end of the night and you watch him hop over a puddle on his walk back to his car like a toddler. He corners you at work the following night and tells you his leg weighs 6 pounds
