I have no idea how to work this thing anymore lmao. For the two people that remember my Gorillaz mermaid fanfiction era, I appreciate you, but I’m rebranding ✨
I’m Lottie, she/her, 19 (again, minors DNI)
I’m currently into Gorillaz, Marvel, Stardew Valley, and doll collecting, but I also dabble in other fandoms like FNAF, MLP, and TADC.
If you listen to Atta Boy PLEASE PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN I NEED MORE FRIENDS WHO ARE FANS
I doubt I’ll be on here very much but I don’t really know Tumblr etiquette very well so sorry I’m advance if/when I do something wrong.
I promise I’m not schizophrenic (they took that diagnosis away 😛) but I would be stupid not to shoutout my besties in Spectacle. Please hmu girlies yk who you are. For the rest of you, be prepared, idk when it’s gonna happen but we’re turning up one day don’t you fret.
Cameron Cassmore living in his piece of junk RV camper is basically modern day AU Han Solo
Just give him a very hairy 7 foot tall friend who speaks in an undefinable Eastern European language and for some reason goes by the name Chewie (it’s an inside joke)
Avery in this film is pretty much already Leia, reading that boy for filth the moment she lays eyes on him lol.
I never understood the hype for Harvey until I imagined him as a woman. Like a nerdy doctor lady with glasses who’s also strong enough to carry me from the clinic to my fucking bed???? Sign me tf up idc how much she bills me for my emergency surgeries.
This is where I confess I barely take photos. So from the top - first is my crocheted Plague Doctor, who has zero medical knowledge but is gonna try and help anyway. Second is the final scene of Creature from the Black Lagoon I took from my TV as it's vitally important for a smut scene I'm writing for my very very normal fic. Third is the cathedral in Aachen where Charlemagne was from! Fourth is from the bridge in Cologne with an unfortunate robot and his friends. Fifth is from Cameron Winters gig in an old Methodist church which is every bit as amazing as it sounds. And final was from the Alps near Innsbruck!

First we have a beautiful sunrise in Mexico when I went on a hot air balloon ride, next is my dads two dogs waking me up by pouncing on my chest, next is my attempt to make lasagna, then you have a squashed plankton on the floor of my friends SpongeBob themed birthday party, next is my brothers dog looking longingly outside waiting for my brother to pick him up, and finally we have the sign welcoming me into Michoacan when I went to visit recently.

Mine include the best burger I’ve ever eaten, a view of the lighthouse on my cruise last year, the smallest paper crane I’ve made (so far!), the kitten I found in the parking lot at my job, the northern lights when they were visible in my area, and my birthday cake from a few months ago :))
I don’t normally request things but I’m craving some Rhett rn lol! Can you do something with Rhett and Blue Moon? I don’t care if it’s a blurb or hc, whatever you want. I’m envisioning a fem/gn reader with social (or general?) anxiety who’s been crushing on Rhett from afar but doesn’t have the guts to say anything. Rhett has always liked them but thought they didn’t feel the same since they never talked to him. They’re at the bar with friends and try to loosen up with a few drinks but just end up a drunk, nervous wreck in the corner booth. Rhett comes over and fluff ensues. Would be forever grateful!
note: omg hiii i'm so happy to have more requests so if you ever have ideas feel free to send them <3 okay so I added a bit of protective Rhett...and I trailed off here, I hope you still like this @jackandblow ...it just kept coming out of me...God everytime I write for Rhett I just like sigh *cowboy lewis*
word count: 6K-ish
warnings: neurodivergent!reader, fidgets, referencing my birthday bc even in requests I'm self indulgent...fighting, alcohol, drinking, throwing up, intoxication, angsty, assault, sexual assault (very minor) but very fluffy in the end, these two basically have googly eyes at each other throughout the whole thing…Rhetts' pov in the beginning, kinda! grumpyxsunshine vibes…barely read through and edited…
Blue Moon - Rhett Abbott request 18+
Rhett didn't understand Y/n, who was the kind of girl to sit in the bar with a notebook, other times her laptop, seemingly writing-he had no idea-but she was usually completely entrenched. She always got the same drink, sprite and Kahlua, the bartender, Mike, even went out to find the alcohol it because no one around here wanted that kind of drink. He tried it, it was alright, the espresso in the Kahlua covered up the alcohol the more he drank it. Along with a water that was more focused on than the drink, he spoke a bit with the bartender about her. He was curious about her, never saw her drunk, never saw her with any other drink or drink more than one or two. Somehow charming the grumpy western bartender who just didn't want any bad news in his bar, he looked to Y/n as if she was one of his girls. The kind of business that Rhett had struggled with getting mixed up in when he got too drunk, he always tried to tip a little more the next time he came in. He starts to keep an eye out for her aswell, especially after learning she was out here all by herself, no one to look out for her. Yet in the chaos of the Wabang bar, Y/n seems to be the only stable part of it.
It was the same routine, they never spoke to each other, but always seem to find each other’s eyes in the crowded room. Rhett caught her staring a few times, when their eyes met, she’d usually grab the little circular straw toy that confused him that sat beside her or start writing away like she hadn’t been looking. He rarely looks away, trying to be inviting but to avoid coming off weird sometimes he kept his eyes to himself. But he wasn’t shameful, she was beautiful, interesting, somehow always caught his attention and he maybe only knew five things about her but wormed her way into his cold stoned heart.
There was one night that broke the bubble of having a silent mutual infatuation that was unnamed-both unsure. That night made him feel differently, she wasn’t just this shy, enclosed creative. Y/n had come in looking absolutely capturing, clearly had put in time into her look, she seems more confident in her step. With a few of her friends that definitely seem more akin to city girls, a little more northern than southern. The bartender mentioned that she was from the Midwest and he could see that-but city girl was written all over her with the short fitting dress, a low dipping neckline that shown the curve of her breasts, heels, her hair looked fluffy, curly, maybe it was light of the bar, but he couldn't stop looking at her. Like she radiated her presence, her beauty straight to him. Which also meant he saw her drink more than usual, Perry teasing him about staring while he mostly worried about her.
He goes up to the bar, greeting Mike with chagrin, "What's the occasion?" he nods over to the booth that Y/n resides in her with her friends. He stops for a second as she giggles at one of her friends, messing with one of those little fidgets. (One time he called it a toy in front of Mike and he corrected Rhett, “She calls it a fidget, not a toy”)
"Why don't you go ask?" Mike retorts, Rhett stares for a second, thinking about it watching the way her eyes lit up-he just never saw her like this-struggled to take his eyes off of her. He doesn't know how it got to this point of a practical obsession over her. "It's her birthday, go bring her a drink."
"I'll do two of her usual, haven't seen that one tonight." he mutters, chewing on the side of his cheek, jaw constricting with nerves, the bartender saw the hesitancy.
"You gonna walk it over there, or do I gotta?"
"I don't wanna ruin her night." Rhett replied, grimacing at the thought of interrupting her good time.
"I'm sure you won't, give me a moment." Mike said, before turning to work on the drinks, while he turns around to see Y/n, who was already looking right at him. She immediately dips her chin, her mouth opening as if she almost gasped by making eye contact with him, before darting her eyes away and grabbing her drink-that had just gone empty, she stirs the straw to no avail. He could practically hear the pop of ice beginning to grow dry, the clink of them being stirred. But she doesn't get up for a new drink, he worries that maybe she's avoiding him, the least he could do for staring is give her a drink-then he'd leave her be.
Mike hands him the drinks, he takes a deep breath, fixing his hat before walking over to the booth. "Hey ladies, how’re you doin’ tonight?" he tries, his eyes going straight to Y/n-seeing her so up close-it made him a bit dizzy-especially with the scent of her cherry perfume as he stood closest to her. The way he felt like the sun rotates towards him to shine down when she looks at him.
All the women chirp back replies, Y/n opens her mouth to say something, maybe she does, but it's quiet he can't hear it. "I uh, heard it was your birthday, so I just gonna say congrats, happy birthday." something in her demeanor changes while he carefully struggles to not be awkward, even with that deep timber of his voice-it was still a bit shaky. Rhett wanted her to interact with him at least once, "Which one? They're the same thing." he offers, wanting to show that neither one would've been tampered with. He knew how men were around these parts, or just in general, and it wasn’t saying he was better than them-but he never touched a woman with her receiving it unwillingly-he’d never be that way. His mama taught him better than that, treat women (or partner, Cece wasn’t too strict about that, the ladder was different) with the wholly respect and love they deserve.
"I'll," she starts, her voice small, she clears her throat, pointing to the one in his left hand, "I'll have that one."
"Alright, here ya go sweetheart," Rhett said before setting the drink on the table for her before his free hand came to tip his hat to her, she gave him a polite grin, then he smiles weakly at her friends, “I’ll let you be, stay safe tonight.”-hardly noticing them as he moves back to the single booth with Perry with one person on his mind.
"Atta boy!" Perry jokes, reaching over to clap him on the back on the back once he sat down. Rhett's cheeks flushed, glancing down with a toothy smile, he turns his gaze back over to see her already looking at him-she smiles something bright.
Rhett and Perry chat for awhile, they decide to stay just to make sure the girls got out of here safely, especially after Y/n kept downing drinks. He didn't trust these girls around some of the hicks that resided in this town or came from nearby. Then he goes back to the bathroom to take a leak when he hears something in the hallway. He finishes up, washing his hands quick as the sound became louder. When he throws open the door his heart drops, he quickly moves into action as he sees Y/n pressed to the wall with Dax Mitchell-a cool guy in high school who turned into a deadbeat before he hit his forties. He sat at that bar and drank-far too much-he never saw Dax look in her direction before but that didn't matter-has his body pressed up against hers, hand on her thigh, arm slung around her waist. That sight alone would piss him off but with her head tilt to the side, tears running down her cheeks, hands pushing at him-small sobs pouring from her lips-he saw red.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Rhett yells, grabbing him by the back of his collar and yanking him off of Y/n-his free arm shoving him towards the bar-end of the hall
"Woah man! Don't get jealous now." Dax cackles.
"I'm not fucking jealous, you're a fucking freak-." Rhett starts, moving forward and his hands shove at Dax's chest, making the drunk man stumble back into the main part of the bar. "Putting your hands on a woman, what’s wrong with you?" Dax falls on to the floor in a grunt as Rhett’s fist meets his cheek- just as Rhett's ready to mount and pummel him further with his hands.
"Rhett woah there!" Perry yells, yanking Rhett off of him while Mike-along with a few other locals came over to defuse the situation.
"Come on man! Calm down." Dax taunts, and Rhett jerks forward, seething-he just kept picturing Y/n’s sweet face was broken down in fear-he wanted to kill him.
"Let me go," he said, looking off to the side to Y/n who had just rushed into the female bathroom. The anger courses through his veins, sharp, loud, he doesn't know why he's so protective-but she was gentle, beautiful and Dax exploited that-something about that just drove him insane. He points at him with heat in his eyes, "Get him the fuck out of here, he put his hands on Y/n, lucky I don't kill him." the twang in his voice thick, angry.
Perry lets Rhett go as he glances over to see the booth Y/n was in, completely empty, none of her friends in sight. He runs a hand through his hair before turning back into the hallway, he turns to Perry, “Can you go check if her friends are still around?”
“Alright, you’re gonna go check on her?”
“Yeah,” his adam’s apple bobs, before he walks back into the hallway, leaning in to knock on the single bathroom. "Hey, Y/n, it's Rhett, are you alright in there?" he questions, voice gentle yet rough from his yelling and fiery, the door's thin and he can hear sniffling, defusing any the rest of his anger, "I can't find your friends and I just wanna make sure you're alright in there. I promise I won't hurt you, or touch you if you don't want."
There's more silence but then the door unlocks and she pulls it open, gasping, makeup streaked, tears hot against her face, "I need air," she trembles, while he nods.
The urge to step in closer comes over him but he allows her space, worry etching in his brow, "Are you hurt?"
"No-no I'm fine, physically," she said, before wobbling into the door frame, "Well drunk but fine."
"That's alright, let's go get you some air, yeah?" He moves forward to lead her without touching her but she struggles, not making it far, "Honey, can I just-help you a bit?"
"I'm sorry, my head's still dizzy." she murmurs, pressing her forehead to the cold wall, she takes a second before breathing out, "You can help." Rhett offers her a gentle smile, his hand just barely touches her in the middle of her back, leading her through the bar.
"You okay there Miss. Y/n?" Mike asked, the bar had begun to clear out aside from a few strays and Perry.
"Yeah, I got sheriff Joy on speed dial." Perry adds.
"No-no, I don't wanna cause all that fuss, I'm okay," she assured, waving her hands in the air.
"You aren't causing a fuss," Rhett assures, his voice gentle, dipping his chin to better meet her eyes, "We just wanna make sure you're alright."
"Okay, I'm fine." she said, suddenly feeling a large lump in her throat after everything, at the thought of making this a big deal. "Need air, still."
"And water,” Rhett adds, as she starts forward, he follows, “Per will you bring one out?"
"Sure." he nods, while Rhett catches her just as she’s about to stumble into a chair, gently grasping her arms, “Try to stay upright there, almost to your air, honey.” he finally gets her out the front door, letting her rest her body against the side of the building. When she goes to the slide on to the ground, “Hang on there-.” she pauses, struggling to keep her balance-he’s quick to shrug off his flannel, setting it behind her to give her some barrier from the dusty gravel, “Don’t got any pants on, wouldn’t want your dress to get all dirty, huh?”
“Oh thank you,” she murmurs, heat crossing her cheeks as she finally sits down on to his flannel.
“Your friends leave you?" Rhett asked.
"Yeah...I dunno, I forgot I drove here and they all called an Uber, must've forgot...I should've known...Always have to take care of myself with them even on my damn birthday." she starts crying again and Rhett isn't sure what to do. They didn't cry much in his family, but he just moves to sit down next to her, his hands resting on his knees.
Once she quiets a little he says softly, "Lousy of them, but that's not on you." just as the door pops open for Perry to come over with her purse and water.
"Hey, think I got everything from your booth." Perry said, crouching down to hand her the glass of water, carefully setting the bag down next to her.
"Thank you."
"No problem." Perry assures, standing up and clearing his throat. She shouldn't trust another man right now, but Rhett always seemed different to her-He's the one who saved her-his brother seemed okay too.
"It's okay, I jus' shouldn't drive home I don't think." she slurs, taking a sip of water and leaning her head back as it pounded, closing her eyes.
Rhett glances over at Y/n, he tries to help, his blue eyes gentle, "I can drive you home, drop off Perry on the way, he's had one too many as well." Rhett declares, standing up as Perry rolls his eyes, "He just don't show it."
"That's scary, what if I didn't know I was drunk?" she questions, a pout to her lips. "I've never really been this drunk...Is it bad to say that?"
Rhett huffs out a laugh, "Well just don't drink like this guy does," he said, pointing his thumb to his brother.
"How many times have you come home with beer reeking from your pores?" Perry jokes.
"Why are you paying attention to my pores, Per?" Rhett retorts, then they realize they are around someone else, and he clears his throat.
Y/n just starts giggling as she tries to sip on her water as a distraction from the way her pulse went crazy around Rhett. Her gaze lifts up to his, "Can we just wait a second?" she murmurs.
He blinks a few times, "Course," Rhett hums, swallowing deeply-still worried about her after everything.
Once she drank most of the water, Perry went back inside to return the glass while Rhett brought his truck over so Y/n had less of a walk. They both help her up, careful not to make her uncomfortable after feeling so vulnerable-always been those two boys in high school. Who looked out for their peers, especially women because the least they could do is make sure when someone’s vulnerable like this-that they found somewhere safe. (Even if that included putting themselves at risk sometimes). It was just how they were, sometimes too drunk to think about anything other than themselves. But if someone needed them-they usually reached out a hand with no question-not just women either. Rhett doesn’t know how many times he begrudgingly brought one of the stupid blonde Tillerson’s brothers home from the bar without a scuff on them.
They led her to the passenger side door, Perry opens the door as Rhett escorts her inside, carefully lifting her. Then he reaches over, pressing his back to the glove compartment in order to not crowd her-she was so out of it-she might've not cared. The last thing he wants to do is hurt her more because he was being careless. He was mindful with her, she always seemed soft-full of heart and goodness-in his eyes, it just may be his opposite and he admires that.
They drove for a few minutes, Perry passing out in the back, when Y/n finally whispered, "I don't wanna be alone tonight," she said, not looking at him, staring out the window, "I wasn't suppose to be alone, I dunno why they left me." she shakes her head to herself, frowning down at her hands sitting her lap.
Rhett isn't sure if she's talking to him or just aloud and then she turns to him, eyes widening like she’s just noticing he's there, "You must wanna laugh at how stupid I am...letting my friends leave, that guy-."
"I'm not laughin', Dax better not show his face around no more." Rhett said, clearing his throat focusing on the road, trying to relax his hands on the wheel.
"No more, you're such a cowboy." she laughs, the sound making his eyes go over to her, he couldn't help the way his lips twitch up to the side.
"That a bad thing?"
"No, not at all." she said, "Barely spoken to my friends since I moved here, just wanted a fresh start not being forgot about all the people who I thought cared."
"Well now, you have another friend, or two-." he glances back at Perry and rolls his eyes playfully which pulls another smile out of her.
"Will you stay with me tonight? Just...scared." she said, pressing her cheek against the back of her head rest. "Might be stupid..."
"Whatever you want, I can help, just don't want you scared, or hurt.” Rhett declares, which made her quiet, he kept saying it-did he really mean it? After what just happened at the bar why was she putting it all on the line when they offered to call the police? Because she didn’t want to escalate the situation and they seem so supportive-respectful.
He drops off Perry first at the ranch, passing her farmhouse before heading back towards her place. Rhett makes sure Perry gets inside, then he comes back out for her, she blurts, "Why did you buy me a drink?" Rhett pauses his movements, eyebrows raising as his blue eyes looked wide. "You don't even know me."
"I see you...across the bar, noticed you didn't have your usual so just wanted to make sure you did..." Rhett tries, adam's apple bobbing, barely gnawing at the inside of his bottom lip, "That weird?"
"Kinda but I notice you too. Alot actually" she murmurs, before turning her head towards the window like she completely forgot what she just said. But Rhett lets it go, throws on his seatbelt and heads back towards her house.
"Here we are..." he said, pulling into the drive as she unbuckles before walking out of the truck, a different pep to her step, even if she stubbles a bit, she’s determined in whatever she was doing. Rhett turns off the vehicle before following her, "Where are you-." as she starts heading to the back of her house and she gets down on to the ground, laying on her back. "What are you doing?"
"I'm looking at the moon." she said, pointing up at the dark sky as crater spots beam down on to them. "It looks so pretty like this, come lay down with me."
"You do this often?" he asks, moving over, he kneels down before bracing himself on his hands, following her as she rests her own head against the ground.
"Yeah...it feels peaceful, still. Always wanted to live out in the country, just glad I found this place." she murmurs, hands coming over to lay just under her breasts, covering her ribs because for some reason it made her feel secure. "It's a good place to come after writing, letting go of the anxiety of trying to finish something.”
"What do you write?" Rhett asked.
She went quiet, drumming her fingers against her sternum, Rhett turns his head to look at her, the curve of her nose under the moonlight, how her hair looked a little crazy but soft, her. “I’m working on a book, sometimes I float around with poetry but I tend to write romance novels, I have one published of each so far....”
“You do now?” he hums, as she looks over at him nervously, trying not to giggle at his accent. He made a mental note to figure out how to get his hands on those books as she finally lets a smile crack through. “What are you smiling about?”
“You, I can’t believe I’m here with you.” she confesses, eyes widening before she yanks her head back towards the sky, but he doesn’t look away, just watches her as she chews on her lip, avoiding looking into his direction. She tries to come up with something to make it better, but it only worsens the hole she digs for herself, “I-I’ve thought about it, you. I…I know I don’t know you but like you’ve helped me write just-because you’re there like I don’t know maybe a muse or not that. God, I-I don’t want it to seem like I have a crush on you.”
Rhett grins, finally looking back at the sky, trying to ignore the way his heart stirs at the idea, “Aw, well I wouldn’t mind.”
“That I am a creepy stalker that uses you in her writing? Yeah, sure.”
He chuckles, humor crossing his face and it’s her turn to stare, “Creepy now? I don’t see that. I watch you too…sometimes.” Rhett explains, her hand reaches out, hesitantly hovering over his, before her index finger traces along his knuckles. He felt goosebumps run up his neck at the simple contact, then they meet eyes-frozen in whatever trance that feels like a silent see-saw. It felt like just for a moment, they might be one in some ways, something neither one of them had felt before.
“Why? I’m nothing special.”
“And I’m just a hillbilly cowboy, I just look at you and see a hella of alot more than nothing.” Rhett retorts.
“You’re kind, you helped me.”
“It’s least I could do, Y/n.”
She pauses when he says her name, eyes glazed over from the alcohol but there was something else there-a longing that was finally coming to light. “You aren’t gonna change up on me? Prove your nice just you can be terrible later on?”
“Someone did that to you?” he questions, scanning her face as she sighs, her hand finally settling over his, almost as she forgot what she’d been doing it.
“Everyone does that, I don’t know if it’s my fault, I don’t mean to, usually people are so kind to me at first and then they get to know me…So I just don’t put myself up to be hurt like that, but it’s lonely, I feel so alone here. I’m afraid that no matter what I do, I’ll be alone for the rest of my life.”
He doesn’t know what to say, stuck between not believing her words and understanding where she came from-Rhett knew that hurt, “Remember, I’m your friend?” he notices that Y/n had moved in closer, he nudges his shoulder with hers. “I won’t do it, if you don’t do it to me.” he counters.
“Just accept who we are, that we care about each other, go from there.” she adds, blinking a few times before yawning. Rhett wants to turn in his hand towards her, let their fingers sink together, then she begins to fidget again, “This okay?” she asked, pausing as two fingers press along the joint of his wrist.
“Yeah you’re good,” he replies, “Don’t gotta worry about much with me, alright?”
“Same, alrighty partner?” she starts laughing, from deep in her belly, he rolls his eyes but can’t help the small chuckle that falls from his mouth and the way her joy drove him crazy in all the best ways.
Rhett could watch her laugh all day, he wanted to do whatever he could to do that-to be around her in anyway she wanted him. She just had to know he really cared, that he wasn’t going anywhere-he barely knew this girl-heard most of his information from townies and Mike. But he had a feeling that it was just what he needed in his life, someone to be close with, maybe he thought he was the prettiest woman in town but it was more than that. It was connecting with that loneliness she felt, it was finally realizing how long he’s been filling it with alcohol, saying his families enough because they are there. But he doesn’t let anyone else in, he doesn’t try to bond, he’s kind and compassionate deep down, but he’s bad at small talk and has a low tolerance for bullshit.
It doesn’t matter with Y/n, he’s just here with her, he’s here with her so she isn’t alone anymore-and it was more than that. All of the lingering glances, the scenarios he tried not to indulge in, the thoughts that ruminate even when he was out working with the damn pigs-it didn’t matter where he was at, the field, the barn, the kitchen, she popped into his mind like a bright light bulb that made him get through his day-Cause he was excited of the prospect of just being able to be around her, yet never having the courage to walk up to her until that night-it’d been impulsive.
He doesn’t know how long they lay there next to each other, her hand growing lazy as she trails her fingers, sometimes flattens her palm on his forearm and along the back of his hand. At some point the conversation goes completely still, then she grows limp, he looks over to see her eyes closed, chest taking in deep breaths. Rhett takes his time, gently picking her up, cooing, “I got ya, just gonna set you in bed sweetheart,” along with other small things to assure her that she was safe-that she could trust him to take care of her and not take advantage of her vulnerability-it might’ve not been the best move to let a stranger in her house, but Mike wouldn’t have let him walk off with her if he thought she was in bad hands.
The back door is unlocked, he walks in, juggling her in his arms for a moment before trying to figure out the optics of her house. Rhett eventually finds her bedroom, carefully setting her down on the bed. He pulls at the covers, she moves to lay on her back, “Nope, on your side.” he remarks, hand gentle as he adjusts her with a small pressure to her shoulder.
“Hmm.” she murmurs, before burying half of her face into the pillow, his heart somehow softens even more. He drapes the blanket over her, pressing her hair away from her face before getting up and leaving the room.
Rhett decides to stay, to make sure she didn’t choke on her puke, or only remember certain parts and filling in the gaps of the rest of the situation. He gets her a glass of water, setting it by her bed, when he walks out there’s a orange cat that raises it’s spine and hisses.
“Oh sorry there bud,” Rhett winces, swallowing deeply as he tries to carefully maneuver around the animal. He wounds up on the couch, putting his hat over his head to try and catch some sleep, his feet thrown over the side of the lounger as he tries to fit himself in the too-small space.
Y/n wakes up with a pounding headache, she groans loudly, a role of nausea comes through her and she darts out to the ensuite bathroom. She falls to her knees, throwing up everything that her body needed too. Once she’s finished, she leans against the tub, resting her head against the cool porcelain when she realizes Rhett Abbott was here last night. She wasn’t drunk enough to not remember it, she doesn’t think anything that could happen with Rhett would be considered forgettable.
The man she’s been obsessed with almost a year now, he was always at a distance, he seemed to people watch just as she did. So when they use to catch eyes she didn’t think anything of it with him, only that she needed to stop being so creepy. Then proceeded to work on her novel that was based off a cowboy romance, only being made up of fantasies, of the few times she’s seen Rhett on a bull, in the beginning he would flirt with woman, sometimes he’d get into fights when he got too drunk and started running his mouth. But he usually sat with his brother, Perry, chatting about life, laughing, having a light-hearted time-that’s the Rhett she’s interested in-the little pieces that made up the whole story. She couldn’t help but notice that he stops chatting up woman-she pathological denies that he’s interested in her in any way. She focused so hard on her story that she would give no attention to the fact that he might want her too. It’s never been that for her, romantic relationships just never seem to work out for her, she never feels enough. She didn’t want to feel that way with Rhett, somehow it would just hurt ten times worse, even with barely knowing him.
He was also unshakably hot, perfect, etched out of one of her dreams, either wearing his cowboy hat or trucker cap, it didn’t matter if he was pouting or smiling. She thought it was cute when he glared, though when he got aggressive it made her nervous, he never seemed to really start it. People threw comments at him like he was punching bag, sometimes he took it with a shrug, sometimes a fist met a jaw-he was getting better at it-drinking less. Last night was different, he protected her, the least he could’ve done was help her, but taking care of her after? How in the hell did she catch the chances of him feeling the same? How drunk was she last night? Every word of hers was true but was he just saying those things to make her feel better? The way he looked at her, she wasn’t sure-it made everything feel so confusing, only waking up moments ago she struggles to think straight.
But those eyes, for so long she swore they were brown, from a distance they just looked big, puppy dog-like-but last night-when he was up so close to her. She saw that softness under a microscope, the way certain lights would show the different shades of blue, her favorite was how the moon makes them shine lighter-almost like the blue sky on a sunny day. She saw the stubble on his cheeks that she wanted to rub her hand against, she didn’t know he had freckles, but she saw the dusting of them on his face. Wait…was he still here?
Y/n gets up from the ground, realizing she was still in her dress as she looked into the mirror. There was no chance he was still here, he wouldn’t just wait around for her to wake up, he had a life, a job. So she just throws on a robe, tying it up, then walking out to take the empty water glass back out to the kitchen. When the living room comes into view she pauses completely, eyes widening, heart thumping loudly. She had to be hallucinating, this man didn’t even know she existed until last night. Or well, that wasn’t true, she remembers the timber of his voice when Rhett said, "I see you...across the bar,” and later that night, “...I watch you too…sometimes.”
That didn’t mean he knew her, or actually cared, he was kind, helping her out last night, being her friend, making her feel comfortable. It didn’t matter that he let her trace his arm for god-knows how long-or that she swore she felt goosebumps littering his skin at one point. Or the way he hardly moved the angle of his head, watching her with no shame-not in a creepy way, but almost as if he was hanging on the edge of his seat. God, she was thinking too much right now.
None of it solves the cowboy laying on her couch, but she leaves him be, noticing it was only eight o’clock-she was glad it was earlier than it seemed. Though she had planned on not doing much today and that was solidified by last night. Y/n moves into the kitchen to grab some more water, down some pain killers, decided to sit down and book a telehealth appointment with therapist hopefully within the next week. She really needs to eat something but her mind was scrambled everywhere. Then she moves back towards the hallway pausing as Rhett stirs from his sleep.
“Morning-.” he rasps, sitting up, pulling the hat from hiding his face to sitting on his chest. “How’re ya feeling?”
“Like I drank too much last night.” she mutters, loud enough for him to hear, smiling softly.
“Do you remember-?” he pauses, scratching at his neck that had grown a new layer of stubble.
“Yeah, all of it.” she nods, swallowing deeply, shuffling back and forth on to each foot when her-all nerves that the alcohol numb are back full forced. Then her cat, Nattie, comes walking in, rubbing up against Y/n, “You um can head out whenever you want, I don’t want to keep you here.” she leans down to scoop him up in his arms, laying him on his back like a baby and petting from his neck to his belly.
“Well, I thought uh maybe I could take you out for breakfast, maybe a date…”
Confusion drifts over her face, “Really?” her eyes pulled into a concentrated glare, she didn’t believe him all the way, but she tries to calm by scratching at behind Nattie’s ear.
“Yeah really.” he grins, scanning her face with curiosity, wanting to move in closer-see her up close like last night.
“I smell like death, so maybe I could shower first?”
“Whatever you need, whose that?” he nods towards the cat, “Didn’t seem to like me much.”
“Oh I doubt that, Nattie just doesn’t like when people are nervous around him.” she explains, before setting him down.
“Well cats just don’t usually like me.” he clarifies, shrugging, she purses her lips forward, thinking.
“Or maybe you’re afraid of them.”
“What?” he laughs, cocking his head to the side as she shrugs.
“They can feel that stuff, if you aren’t scared of them-most of the time they be won’t scared of you, especially Nattie here.” she explains, while they both stop for a second, just looking over at each other. Then she snaps out of the trance, “I’ll go get ready.”
Rhett clears his throat, glancing away bashfully, trying not to grow red in the cheeks as he was caught staring at her face-even if she claims she smelled like death, she sure as hell couldn’t look like it. “That sounds good.”
