Long post incoming- sorry for having to search for this. Honestly, I would love to have more people in the tea server. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of the way the conversation usually goes. I was never Sean's biggest super fan. I watched his content when I wanted a full playthrough of a game that others didn't finish. (Bc he's usually better about that). Having said that, I've got no real skin in the game... (1/9)
I never really understood the draw to his egos (since the content on them is almost nonexistent- and I didn’t want to use fanart, theories, and speculation to base my opinion on a character. Being that there isn’t enough content of this nature that’s canon- I keep my distance. However, the anti glitches- well they are just that. Glitches. Not being too attached to the egos, the glitches are neat little surprises that I enjoy when they show up in videos. (2/9)
But I treat them as nothing more than editing choices. Every glitch doesn’t have to be theory fodder. After “The Ego Post”, people were flipping their lids over the things Sean said. “He avoided the topics at hand! He’s just procrastinating.” Both of these things are probably true. But crucifying him for it gains very little. Did he handle it poorly? Absolutely. (3/9)
But in my couple months of being in the tea server, it certainly appears that every single thing Sean does, and by extension Gab– is grounds for PROOVING how inept they are or what horrible people they are. In some ways I think that people are baised in similar ways to the “Stans”. They bring up their reasons for anger from a place of disappointment after looking up at Sean for so long. Just like the people who say Sean can do no wrong. Well, he’s just a man. (4/9)
The only difference is that he has millions of people vying for his attention. His entire life is under a constant microscope: his haircut, the quality of his tattoo, his breakup with a previous girlfriend, his current girlfriend, how he uses his money… The list goes on. Under normal circumstances, not a single one of these things would be known or relevant for a random Joe walking down the street. We can’t hold Sean to some impossible standard. (5/9)
He can make mistake after mistake like the rest of us. Just like anyone else would, he tries his best to keep a positive public face. Who could blame him? After all, people run to Tumblr to scream at him after he cut his hair! Geez. Should Sean communicate with the community about how he REALLY is doing? Yes. But by no means does he HAVE to. He’s getting therapy. We don’t really know what kind of mental state he actually is in. (6/9)
Robin Williams comes to mind… No one expected him to be depressed. (No I’m not saying Sean is suicidal or anything crazy like that. Don’t take me out of context anons.) All I’m saying is that Sean could be struggling. He probably IS struggling. (7/9)
A community that is heavily divided. People who think he can do no right. People who worship the church of PMA. It’s really not great. But you know what? It doesn’t have to be that way. Can we please just take Sean at face value? Not dig deep into each and every little thing he says? Shake hands and say that he’s human too. There’s a real person behind the screen. He has hopes and dreams and fears like the rest of us. (8/9)
So listen up Jacksepticeye Tea Blog, Discord server folks… let’s strive to be more understanding of each other’s opinions, whether they agree with us or not. And let’s try to take off our biases of admiration or disappointment in Sean, and look at what he does objectively. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.
