Zukka fake marriage where they need to marry each other for political reasons and they’re worried no one will buy it and see it for the stunt it is. Except turns out the whole world pretty much thought they were together already?? Like everyone knows that Firelord Zuko and his Water Tribe Ambassador are totally banging, everyone has seen them sneak out in terrible disguises for their dates and stuff. Sokka and Zuko are perplexed because aren’t they just bros? Really close bros? Tender bros??
Like both of them are okay with sharing a bed and a few kisses here or there if it’s expected. Holding hands is nbd. Honestly Zuko’s been so touch starved that the affection is really nice - it doesn’t mean he likes his husband like that. Sometimes Zuko will reach out for Sokka’s hand on instinct even when there’s no one around they have to put on a show for but Sokka always seems so happy when he does - that doesn’t mean it’s gay or anything.
They’re both just naturally affectionate people.
And it is kind of nice having someone to sleep next to even if it’s strictly platonic - Zuko feels so much safer having Sokka there and Zuko’s presence right next to him makes it easier on Sokka when he’s having restless nights and nightmares about the war they both went through.
That’s human nature. Not love.
Also there’s absolutely no getting around Zuko being a human-sized heater with the way he radiates warmth which means on hot nights Sokka ends up sleeping near naked and on cold nights he has something amazingly warm and comfy to curl up around and whatever soap Zuko uses smells amazing and his hair is always soft and Zuko likes it when Sokka plays with his hair so that’s a win-win and also not gay.
(and it’s not like Zuko can control his body temperature or anything - that’s ridiculous, he’s not doing it on purpose because he likes Sokka cuddling up to him and sometimes enjoys seeing Sokka’s biceps and abs on display now that he’s bulked up in adulthood - Zuko enjoys it in a purely aesthetic way)
It’s on their first anniversary when they’re both kind of tipsy and tumbling into bed when things change because suddenly Zuko has his arms full of a half-naked, cuddly Southern Water Tribe warrior that also happens to be his husband giving him he most paper-thin excuses about not being able to figure out if he’s hot or cold and how Zuko’s skin is just so soft and -
Zuko can’t help but kiss him. Behind closed doors for the fist time. For no reason that he can logically hide behind besides that he wants to.
Luckily he doesn’t have to come up with one because his mouth is busy because Sokka is kissing back.
They don’t talk at all that night. Just trade soft, lazy, somewhat sloppy kisses until they fall asleep tangled around each other...
And they never do really talk about it. In the morning Zuko is an anxious mess bc he’s scared he just messed everything up and made things weird between him and Sokka (y’know bc he kissed him. Sokka. His husband. He kissed his husband and now he’s scared things are weird bc that makes sense lmao).
But then Sokka wakes up while Zuko is brushing out his hair and just comes to stand behind him, puts one hand on Zuko’s shoulder and holds the other out for the brush.
Zuko tries to say something while Sokka is gently brushing the tangles out of his long hair but he’s interrupted by a kiss and... that’s really all he needed to know.
