hunger games / 1984
I've already seen this said but I feel I have to say it as well but sunrise of the reaping does something really special. With that book Collins pulled off something worthy of Orwell and 1984 with the message about propaganda. In catching fire you assume that tape is the truth but now we now it wasn't but honestly why did we believe it, the tape came from the capital so why should we think it's the truth.
I don't if it was her intention from the beginning but either way Collins has created a lesson on critical thinks there that is really something. it's all true really because in this age of deep fakes we should all question where something is coming from before we choose to believe it.
I've always loved the hunger games but at the same time I have also understood when compared to other dystopias Collins has always been up against some tuff competition. Like fifty terms and words entered our language because of 1984 and that's just to start with Atwood created something that is used as an act of protest. this most recent book though, I think it puts Collins on the same level so I would really recommend sunrise of the reaping.
oh my god. oh my god. oh my fucking
All the Cleon's seem to have this thing where they want an unattainable women, goes right back to the first and Demertzel. I think Gaal knows this and was probably trying to be that to this Dawn so she could recruit him, although she doesn't know the lengths the first went to in order to get the girl.
The HBO 'Harry Potter' series has cast its Harry, Ron and Hermione.
What does Jame want with Helly?
First off when he said you tricked me I think he was simply talking about the end of season 1. It's only been about a month for him since he found out Helly tricked him so it's probably been on his mind.
As to why he's there Cold Harbour was supposed to be finished that day so considering how big it seems to be I'd guess he was probably planning to go there and congratulate Mark and Helly. Crazy I know considering everything but the guy seems to be a narcissist who's already proven be the kind of person who steals credit. In any company like Lumen the big boss always turns up the big stuff happens so people can say he was involved which was probably the idea here.
Also Helly is his daughter and the air apparent which is something powerful people his age can have a problem with. For Mark's part he's the young up incomer who seems to have some kind of skill that makes him good at his job which again could be seen in a certain light to Jame. Also let's not forget both versions of his daughter are kind of in love with Mark which probably rubs on him. Powerful people his age often hate the idea of the future which Helly and Mark kind of represent so he was probably also planning a villain monolog to break them.
What do you do as the villain when you can't do the triumphant monolog you were planning?
Cold Harbour needs to be finished and Mark seems to be the only one to do that so in that vain I think he's going to try and dark side Helly. Next episode he'll probably say a lot of sweet lies to try and get Helly on side in order to get her to get Mark to finish Cold Harbour because it does seem Mark is the only one that can finish it. A lot of promises will probably will be made and he might even tell Helly the truth about some things but at the end it will all be about get her to get Mark to finish.
Is Helly/Helena pregnant ?
Like everyone else I see all the pregnancy foreshadowing on the show but I recently did the math and even if you assume certain high numbers there hasn't been enough time for Helena to miss her period. That being said though it feels strange that there is all this pregnancy foreshadowing after Mark and Helly had unprotected sex twice so that got me wondering. Last season they ended things on a great last shot and no doubt they would want to do the same this time so I'm wondering if the last shot this time will be Helena taking the test a few weeks after everything and finding out she's pregnant.
me when ???
i simply think that if irving b and irving bailiff both love art and if mark s and mark scout both hate grief then helly r and helena eagan both want to be free. just a little thought
SEVERANCE NATION I MADE AN EDIT
song: hole in a frame by samia (which is coming out 25th march !)
Helly Solo
Making a prediction, we are going to see Helly going on a solo mission next episode.
With the promo clips we've seen Helly seems to be on her own so there's that clue there I think. Also Mark seems to be coming back from a seizure so I think that's at least a week off work for him. On top of that there was the plan Devon was coming up with and with Cobel coming I really feel there has been a lot of side quest build up there.
We know Helly will go get the map Irving made and after that there but need to be something around her getting a card to get access to the door. Not sure how long they would draw that out but my guess that would be half of her storyline in the next episode right there.
So the question would become what would happen to Helly if she got on to the testing floor alone.
If she does turn into Helena down there it would probably be like how things were in season one with the exit door, she'd go down there and just come back up to find Milkshake waiting maybe with a not from Helena. If she doesn't though I think all bets are probably off, Helly has a burn the house down mind set so I think that would come out there in the big way. Lumon would probably have to end up using some emergency contingency or something to stop her.
Sadly I don't think it would work either way though, when it comes to saving Gemma Helly would just be at to much of disadvantage on her own. If this does happen though I think it would be interesting to see how Helena reacts to this one.
Happy International Women’s Day!
Cobel and Mark
Ok I have an idea for why Cobel seems to care about Mark now
I'm wondering if the original idea she had around Severance that got her to come up with it was as a way to help people with depression. Maybe she thought of it as a way people who are depressed could turn there brain off for a short amount of time and as a form of therapy have a different side of them selves find away to be happy in the world. It could have been the idea that things would cross over so the persons Innie would feed positive emotions into the Outie and help them with there depression.
If this is the case afterwards her original ideas clearly fell off the development at some point probably because of the Lumon board. Then Mark came along though a man who represented what she had been originally trying to do so she started doing experiments with him and Gemma to see if she could get the chips to do what she originally wanted to do. So my idea is that she cares about Mark because he's the kind of person she was originally trying to help when she came up with Severance.
Cobel or Selvig
Having watched the latest episode I think her different persona in season 1 make some sense now. For whatever reason she was interacting with Mark both inside and outside Lumon so when she needed to act differently and in doing that she allowed herself to play around with a bit of fantasy.
In season 1 she told two different stories about her mother and I think we can see now with the atheist one she was talking about her ant. With Selvig I think she was imagining who she might have been if she had stayed with her mother and married that guy, wondering if his last name was Selvig.
She is all about the company but she has a really big what if in her life so naturally she probably wonders and in season 1 I think she took the opportunity to play dress up.
severance, freeze frame and clear slate
As I'm sure we all remember in the drop down menu when they were looking for the OTC in season 1 we saw several other options we have all been wondering about. We now know what Glassgo means now and I think we can guess when it comes to branch transfer but there are still a lot of questions about the others.
Have been thinking about what is the worst way things could end for the rescue Gemma mission and this is where it comes in. What if freeze frame allows Lumon to put Innies to sleep or something like that so even if Mark and Helly could get to Gemma Lumon could just flip a switch and put them both out. On top of that afterwards they could both be reset with clean slate to the point where they wake up back on the table again.
Also just because Mark is reintegrated doesn't this stuff wouldn't work.
what are they doing to Gemma
the big question after the last episode is what exactly is Lumon trying to do with Gemma on the testing floor and my theory is they are trying to created a new more controlled severance.
Lumon created the Innies with the chips but they have no way of controlling who an Innie is when they are being made or even predicting who they will be when they wake up. So I'm wondering if Gemma's chip is different and they are trying to find away to control what her various innies end up being when they wake up.
A persons Innie represents who an Outie really is and right now that's something Lunom can't control, we see some great examples of this on the show. Corporate drone Helena secretly wants to burn the system down, so obviously Lumon as a problem there. The depressed borderline acholic Mark turns out to be a confident leader who's very prepared to stand up to management, again Lumon will have a problem there.
Helly or Helena on the testing floor
I'm thinking we might have a real horror moment coming soon.
since we saw the testing floor elevator acts as a severance switch I think there is a good chance it would work the same way on Helly. If Mark and her go down there she could well change into Helena but Mark wouldn't realise because of reintegration so Helena could just play along.
Imagine a good part of an episode where we think it's Helly helping Mark rescue Gemma but at the last moment Helena switches things and traps them somehow. it could even be made even worse if Helena choose that moment to reveal she's pregnant.
creepy severance doctor
Ok the doctor clearly has a creepy stalker obsession with Gemma, the way he was around speaks of a man who loves the power of what he's doing and wants to own Gemma. The lies he told about Mark being married were probably part of him wanting to break her so he can gain more control over her which is why I am wondering how far he will go now.
In season one Mark S had Miss Casey (Gemma) in the office literally right in front of him but he chose to prioritise Helly. Also there is the time Mark S said he cared about Miss Casey but only in a basic empathy way on top of that there is how Mark S is around Helly. All of which will be on the security camera footage that Gemma could be shown, if that wasn't enough it is also possible there are other things Gemma could be shown.
So I'm wondering if that creepy doctor is enough of a ghoul of a human being to show Gemma that stuff.
