Born to a nobleman in the 1700s, Jacqueline Roux lived always in between two worlds, one which she belonged to legally, and one which she would always be alienated from. It all began when her father agreed to her legitimacy. Her enslaved mother had died in labor, and where many a man of her fatherâs stature would want nothing to do with a colored infant, hers took on the responsibility. This hardly made him a savior, however. Jacqueline lived in isolation, away from the social spotlight with a private caretaker, in a private estate, and was revoked of many privileges a woman of her wealth would be provided were she born with lighter skin. She only saw her father, perhaps, once every two years until the age of sixteen.
Bred to perfection, but with little chance of ever being taken as a bride, Jacqueline was slowly ushered into the aristocratic world sheâd been fashioned for. Years passed, and up until the age of twenty, she remained unmarried. Finally, she lived with her father in his estate. Jaqueline never thought heâd taken a liking to her, and came to understand her silence was her most advantageous trait. But within a year, Admiral Roux would fall ill and leave her with an inheritance of over 2,000 a year. This officially granted her the title of heiress, and suddenly marriage seemed a fickle concern.
Despite her financial right to respect, Jacqueline had to work thrice as hard as any heiress to be admired, let alone valued in social and political circles. She assimilated and learnt all she could about law, art, science, and theatre. She took lovers, but bore no children. Only one man would change her life as she knew it then. A vampire named Lawrence had caught her eye on the night of a political event in her own home. He, established and charming, lured her to the tall gardens of her own property and in what she believed to be a whirlwind fling for the night, took her life into his own hands.
The next thing she remembered was waking in her room, with a hunger for blood, and several maids hovering over her. Not a one of them lived to see the next day. Coping with her bloodlust turned the traditional, submissive and passive Jacqueline into a mighty stranger. She hardened, grew more outspoken and fearless, but used her intelligence to her advantage. After a few months of uncontrolled feeding, the newborn came up with a system to keep herself fulfilled without catching anyoneâs attention and from then on lived the rest of her immortal life as an advocate, a leader, and a true tempest.
From France, to Britain, and eventually America, Jackie has turned herself into a beacon of hope for those oppressed by modern day bourgeoisie. Sheâs been vocal in her protests for liberty and justice both on the streets of rebellions and in court rooms as a modern businesswoman. Albeit patient, beautiful, and graceful, Jacqueline Roux forgives but never forgets. And can be merciless in her search for truth and fairness for all. Her attention has now settled on the council of Arcadia. With all the attention the town has been getting, she seeks to establish order where itâs been lost.
Nicolas and Victoria Clark: Like everyone else, she knows of the two oldest vampires. She never met them but has always wanted to. From what she heard, sheâs unsure of how she would get along with Nicolas but she feels like Victoria and her could be close.
